In our second issue in our preview series for the upcoming expansion to Age of Chaos: Darkness of Bogan, we will be expanding further upon the team's design themes of Evolution and Alteration. In this first section of the preview, much like how we used the Second Look at Light of Ashla to introduce a new type of card, Galactic Illusionary Gaming would like to reveal a brand-new type of card that will be appearing in Darkness of Bogan:

Double-sided cards are officially being included into Age of Chaos, with the first few being representative of various Sith and other Dark Side Force users that have temporary changes or are even rumored to have undergone a full metamorphosis. To reflect this, several cards have unique flip abilities such as Darth Avacyn, Lady of Defiance having an ability called Nethershift that allows the player to temporarily flip to Darth Avacyn, Nether Matriarch before using her ability to flip back. For Moirai, Lady of Subjugation and a few other cards in the set, they have an ability called Apotheosis that permanently flips the card to its new form, such as Moirai, Valkyrie Matriarch. As a note for players, you can only play the first side of any card with Apotheosis and can only use its other form once you meet the conditions for that card's Apotheosis, meaning you cannot play Moirai, Valkyrie Matriarch from your hand.

As the second section of this preview, we want to address a feature that we briefly touched upon in our last preview with the Prestige ability. We mentioned that when a card with Prestige goes up to a card with the next Rank that certain abilities will also Rank up those abilities. Below, we have included a table that shows what some abilities can Rank up into:
Rank I and Rank II
Rank III
Rank IV
Hatred

Additionally, there are some abilities that when a card Ranks up, they can gain new effects. A specific example that will be outlined below is the Sith Sorcery ability and what Spell Effects are available for each Rank (higher Ranks have access to lower Rank Spell Effects):

Certain cards will have individual Spell Effects for abilities, typically named cards, and they will be a little more potent than those from cards of a similar Rank using the Sith Sorcery ability.

As the final and third section for this preview, we at Galactic Illusionary Gaming decided to rework the Mutate ability we introduced in Age of Chaos: Galaxy at War. In that set, players would exile their card with Mutate to search for the designated card from their deck. In Darkness of Bogan, Mutate has a much different effect:

Now, players may pay slightly less for a card's Mutate cost and place it either on top or under a designated card type. The card on top, much like with Ascension and Prestige, gain the abilities and effects of the card or cards underneath it. In addition, some cards with Mutate have an additional effect that triggers when their stack Mutates. For an example, when Qo'saarai Tuk'ata is played for its Mutate cost and placed on top of Tuk'ata, it not only gains the abilities of Tuk'ata under it but its additional effect also triggers and creates a Qo'saarai Tuk'ata Token with the entire Mutate stack's abilities and effects:

To further the example, the player does a second Mutate by placing Serin Darkhound on top of Qo'saarai Tuk'ata. It now has the abilities of both Tuk'ata and Qo'saarai Tuk'ata, and both Serin Darkhound's damage effect triggers and Qo'saarai Tuk'ata's copy effect triggers, creating a Serin Darkhound Token with the abilities of the entire stack.

We hope all players and collectors are excited for Darkness of Bogan and hope you will enjoy the new double-faced cards, Ability Rank Ups, and the reworked Mutate ability when the set is ready to be dropped. In our third, and likely final preview for the set, we will reveal two new card types that will be introduced in the set and reveal the set's galactic wide release date and the pre-order bonus.
