OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a basic pest-species for the ocean planet Meer.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Meer, Ufer
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Ziegulls
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Meer
  • Average Lifespan: 16-23 GS years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: A small, blind, semi-aquatic avian species that has a strange biological feature that lets them split their faces in two.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I (air or water)
  • Average Height of Adults: 0.1-0.2 meters
  • Average Length of Adults: 0.3-0.5 meters
  • Skin color: dark blue, white
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions: More fish than fowl, they are eyeless, their face can split in two to reveal several rows of hooked teeth-like barbs, and its nostrils are on its chest. Has four wings, orange bones (that’s no beak), and five tail-flippers.
  • Races: Just the main one.
  • Force Sensitivity: Rare
Strengths:
  • Banshee's Screech; with the use of harmonics, the APX-1 virus allows the user to shatter glass, weaken structures, stun enemies, or outright cause people to go deaf. May cause a shellshock-like feeling in the user if used too much/often.
  • Photographic memory; they will remember your voice, scent, and how you treated them. They hold life-long grudges. And they have a very keen sense of direction and placement.
Weaknesses:
  • Small; is in no-way formidable.
  • Heat; for whatever reason, they are extremely intolerant to intense heat like that of a torches’.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore (scavenger),
  • Communication: a series of shrill, guttural “caws.”
  • Technology level: Primal, they have been observed to peel barnacles off of rocks using sticks.
  • Religion/Beliefs: None
  • General behavior: Fairly territorial avians, they spend the majority of their lives alone in their own (often cylindrical) hunting grounds that an span anywhere from five meters in diameter to twenty. While they can’t really harm bigger animals, their “bites” and their ability to tap into harmonics make for quite the painful experience when encountered. When mating season begins, they venture out of their hunting grounds to screech at the top of their four little lungs to attract one another. And after an egg is fertilized, the two go their separate ways (unless the female is feeling hungry or threatened, in which case she will attack and eat the male), back to their original hunting spots. Mind you, their eggs’ yoke proves to be poisonous to most things, as the only recorded predators of these eggs seem to be other Zweigulls.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Evolving alongside the APX-1 virus, the species quickly became dependent upon the harmonic ability of Banshee’s Screech, utilizing it for hunting purposes or to scare off potential predators. The Nix hate them, and for good reason, they are scavengers by nature and typically take to snatching a fisherman’s hard-earned catch right out of their grasp. Usually just a nuisance, they can get quickly difficult to deal with after a swarm is attracted to the spilt blood of another Zweigull, not that they hunt one another, but rather that it signifies a free meal nearby the fallen gull. Also they’re cannibals, and will eat other gulls.
