DESCRIPTION
ZIMC is a large, consolidated mining and refinery conglomerate formed from the subordination of numerous mining and refining companies under a single banner. It has a presence in every type of ore mining in the Grumani sector and several beyond, giving its owners a practical stranglehold on the prices and output of every ore output in the sector. While each individual planet's mines are generally run independently on a day-to-day basis, ZIMC exerts varying levels of control over the numerous smaller mining companies: some through control agreements and profit transfer agreements, others through simple majority ownership, and a rare few through mere handshake agreements and informal arrangements. Refining, however, is operated directly and solely through Zealous Refineries which refines all the output of its mining subsidiaries

Its main subsidiaries are on Sarrassia where Sarrassian Iron is mined and refined; Vellas Pavo where the important superconductor gadolinium is mined (and largely handed over to Vellas Pavo Superconductor Company for manufacturing; Darkknell where iridium is mined and sold to manufacturers of starfighter components; Phaegon III where the highly restricted Dark-Side attuned Lignan ore is monitored and only occasionally mined for research; Syned for its unique underwater minerals that require high capital investment to access; Nilash III where anthracite is mined with the assistance of local populations and shipped offworld for refinery into starship fuel; and Chelloa, a destroyed planet whose debris field still holds large amounts of baradium to be mined and refined in zero-G platforms. All these unique and varied circumstances give ZIMC a large presence and relatively diversified economic base, allowing operations of all these vital mines and refineries to continue even if one is unprofitable, as profits of the others can be used to shore up the business of another, allowing the Grumani sector to reliably produce these materials and maintain economic stability.

RATIONALE
For centuries, most of the mining in the Grumani sector occurred sporadically with competing small mines producing quick gold rushes until failing equipment or economic circumstances forced a mine to close or be sold to a larger company. The exception was the superconductor market which was largely consolidated in the sector into several large companies. One of these, which gained its supply from the Vellas Pavo mines, fell under the control of Anthysius' mother's predecessors in the years before the Great Relocation. Through the profits gained, she managed to effect the formation of a controlling Concern between several struggling mines and small enterprises, pooling resources to ensure all could continue operations even during economic downturns. Investment also improved their mining equipment, further welding the mine together. From there, momentum has continued until the present day, when Anthysius inherited the Concern through control of the Z&T Group. Under his control the Concern has spread to control practically every mining sector in the Grumani sector as well as consolidating all refining operations under Zealous, allowing Anthysius to maintain the on-paper independence of many of the Concern's subsidiaries while de factor holding all control by keeping a tight hold of the refining operations that keep the mines relevant and afloat.
