OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Zadjeris
  • Classification: Urban Center (Trade Hub)
  • Location: Southern Desert Region, Sevarcos II
  • Affiliation: Rimward Trade League
  • Population: Crowded
  • Demographics: Zadjeris is a low-budget trade mecca in the Outer Rim. Its streets and markets are predominantly filled by the native Sevari, the human colonists who settled the spice planet. As such, its demographics as typical of Outer Rim worlds featuring heavily in both the spice and slave trade.
  • Wealth: Wealthy. The spice mines of Sevarcos give the planet a lucrative narcotic industry, in the form of both carsunum (black spice) and andris (white spice). At the same time, the operation of the spice mines themselves creates a demand for labor that causes slaves to be a major import and big business on the planet. It creates a form of economic symbiosis, in which the Sevarcos keep the galaxy supplied with spice and the various criminal organizations they're involved with ensure a steady flow of slaves. Both are facets of the economy that the Rimward Trade League -- particularly the Rimward Rangers -- have worked to try and stop, but that just drives up the cost of doing business, making the deals that much sweeter when they're successful.
  • Stability: Medium. Zadjeris, like the rest of Sevarcos, is governed by the Council of Spice Lords, who each lead one of the Sevari clans. As such, governance and stability hinge on the present state of gang warfare on the planet. An upset internal to one clan might cause a rival to attack, shattering a tenuous peace until another can be put in place for the sake of off-world trade and the business of being drug czars to the galaxy. The Spice Lords themselves maintain an iron grip on their respective feudal kingdoms, at least until someone stabs them in the back...
  • Freedom & Oppression: There is no constitutional government. There are no rights afforded to anyone here. The law doesn't exist here, as much as the Rimward Trade League would like to believe otherwise. Befriending a Spice Lord grants you great prosperity. Crossing a Spice Lord is a death sentence at best, or else condemnation to the lightless reaches of the spice mines for however much longer one might live in those conditions. Freedom here is based on who you know and who might owe you a favor.
  • Description: Zadjeris was a trade hub located in the Southern Deserts on the planet Sevarcos. A major producer of spice, Zadjeris was more commonly referred to as Spice City, with bustling markets that intermingled spice and slaves. The atmosphere of Sevarcos was classified as Type II due to the ambient spice dust present in the air, so most visitors to the planet required use of a breath mask. Life is cheap on these streets.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The City Walls. A simple fortification of earthen brick, the walls protect against the frequent sandstorms, while also limiting the areas of ingress or egress from the city proper, making it easier for the local Spice Lord to maintain control over what comes in or out of his city.
  • The Shield Towers. A rudimentary defense network, capable of protecting a ray shield over the city to protect against orbital bombardment.
  • Spaceport. A very low rent berth, this system of docking bays is designed for light freighters to arrive, refuel, and then leave. There's no luxuries here.
  • Four Corners. The central markets, the reason for the city's existence. Spice, both raw and refined. Slaves of every species or color. Fine perfumes, luxurious fabrics, whatever your have money to buy is for sale here. Just don't bring credits, you'll need something more real to purchase here.
  • Narco District. The neighborhoods holding the members of the Sevari Clan Narcos, leading up to the boulevard that opens into the Spice Lord's palace. This is the uptown district of Zadjeris, the lifestyle of the rich and famous -- or at least, the rich and the people the Spice Lord likes.
  • Kanjiklub Territory. Kanjiklub was betrayed by Clan Narcos, their purpose in remaining being a means to an end. Kanjiklub wants spice and ships it offworld for Clan Narcos, according to the terms Clan Narcos dictates to them. This is the ghetto of Zadjeris. The place for those whose presence is seen as necessary, but are otherwise undesirable.
  • Hutt Town. An affluent neighborhood near both the spaceport and the Narco District. The Spice Lords have always profited from their deals with the Hutts. And, in return, the Hutts have never failed to ensure a supply of slaves for sale in Zadjeris.
SECURITY
Medium.
There are no police. There are no laws. So long as you aren't threatening the interests of the Spice Lord or one of his paying customers, do what thou will. The closest thing to a military are the thugs employed or enslaved in the service of the Spice Lord. In that sense, Zadjeris is under a form of martial law. One in which the Spice Lords are judge, jury, and executioner. Crimes that catch the attention of the Spice Lord are punished quite severely and often publicly, with executions being a town square event. Rival wars between the Sevari Clans can cause urban warfare in the streets. A Zygerrian slaver serves as the major domo, keeping their slaves in check. As of 860 ABY, the Spice Lord claiming dominion over Zadjeris was an Anzat, using his powers of mind manipulation to control his Clan and feeding upon anyone who caught his favor. In terms of city defense, a series of shield towers are capable of protecting a ray shield around the city, reinforcing the stone walls.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Zadjeris dates back to the Old Republic, when it was inadvertently a host to the Sevarcos Dispute in the years leading up to the Clone Wars. As a result of the Sevarcos Dispute, the Jedi are considered persona non grata here. A Spice Lord is more likely to put a bounty on a Jedi for merely setting foot on their territory, rather than deal with them.

Originally a meeting point for barter between those Sevari peddling spice and those slavers with slaves for trade, the city slowly built up around those core pillars of the planet's economy. It was abandoned during the Gulag Plague, when the Four Hundred Years Darkness ended the lucrative spice trade off-world and sent Sevarcos into a spiral of gang warfare. When trade resumed between worlds, it was Kanjiklub that originally revived the old settlement. The walls were added in 844 ABY to protect against the frequent sandstorms. The city was divided among three Spice Lord clans until 860 ABY, when Clan Narcos systematically butchered the stronger of its rivals in order to prompt the surrender and concession from its weaker one. As a result, the city was solely under the rule of a single Spice Lord from that time onward.

As of 860 ABY, the city was under the control of Sev Narcos, an Anzat who had betrayed, murdered, and manipulated his way to becoming the head of Clan Narcos and de facto dictactor of the city-state of Zadjeris.
