GENERAL INFORMATION

• Name: Agarics
• Origins: Mycotan Marshes, Zaathru
• Other Locations: None
• Classification: Fungi
• Average Growth Cycle: Theoretically immortal; specimens can live for thousands of years.
• Viability: Being a fungi, the Agarics require dead and decaying matter to feast upon in order to survive. They prefer areas of high humidity and moisture, and generally keep to their Marshes rather than venturing out into other areas due to its ideal climate.
• Description: A giant mushroom wandering the Mycotan Marshes, feasting on death. It moves like a slug, and has four arms which it uses to pick up objects and attack enemies. These limbs are well-armored and tough. The body is typically covered in smaller mushrooms belonging to other, less mobile species, which are symbiotically feeding off of any stray dead matter the Agarics do not consume.

Strengths:

• Feast Upon the Dead: Agarics are technically fungi, and thus feed off of dead matter. Wherever there is dead or rotting tissue, the Agarics will thrive.
• Mobile: Agarics are capable of mobility. While slow, they can traverse distances of up to thirty miles per day.
• Defensive: When threatened, Agarics won't go down without a fight. They can release spores which put their enemies to sleep or blind them. After they are incapacitated, they will move in to kill and consume them.

Weaknesses:

• Semi-Sentient: Agarics do not possess sapience or any signs of an awareness beyond their most base instincts. They have no interest in other beings (except when they are dead).

The portrait depicts Marcus' mother from the waist up. Much of her body is obscured by the swirling colors.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

"I think this is Eshara, the Goddess of Desire, Obsession, and Madness. She's a Shi'ido, and the widow of Kolinahr, the Trickster God, whom our father killed. Maybe she kidnapped Marcus as revenge. But that all happened ten years ago—you'd think she would've taken her revenge at an earlier date." - Eloise Dinn​

Marcus originally painted Visitation From Eshara as a personal piece. He'd had recurring visions of a woman with horns and wings, and as was his custom had sketched what he saw. Eventually, the woman in his dreams came to him and sat in the tree outside his window. He transferred his sketch to a canvas and painted her over the course of several nights.

Of course, the woman's intentions turned out to be less than kind. She was seeking revenge for the murder of her husband Kolinahr, whom Marcus' father had killed ten years earlier. She lured and kidnapped Marcus, bringing him to her fortress across the sea and intending to take him as her mate. Marcus was rescued by his sisters Eloise and Altrea, along with Eloise's master Amani Serys-Organa. After Eshara's death, Marcus opted to sell the painting.
