Yun-Ne'Shel Oomlith Masquer [WIP]

priest_by_igorkieryluk-d3ex691.jpg

Intent: Personal armor for [member="Matsu Xiangu"], though additional sets can be built with proper development. The purpose of this suit is to allow Matsu to seamlessly transition into the Shaper Caste of the Legion Yun'Do, with the knowledge of Master level shapers.

Development Thread: If necessary

Manufacturer: [Reverance]/Legion Yun'Do upon vong-formed Selvaris

Model: Yun-Ne'Shel Oomlith Masquer

Affiliation: One Sith/Legion Yun'Do

Modularity: Yes. The hands can be used as standard or grafted with shaper hands, which can be removed and replaced at whim of the user. The oomlith is compatible with the oozhith or cloak of nuun, though this is not it's primary function. The suit itself is meant to serve as a drawing board for superficially worn/grafted biots, giving it the capacity to go through the grafting process relatively easily. The change of the eyes would be a valid example, but the list would be quite long of possible examples.

Production: Limited (explicit permission from Reverance)

Material: Oomlith Masquer (variant of Ooglith Masquer), Qang qahsa, Shaper Hands, Finger Spears, Lungworm, Gnulith, Modified Tizowyrm

Classification: Resistant to blaster damage and kinetic damage, weakly resistant to sabers.

Weight: 8 kg

Quality: 5

Special Features:
-Mimics the force dead properties of the Vong, essentially masking the users force presence entirely.
-Allows the user to seamlessly transition into the Shaper Caste (Master Rank) in the Legion Yun'Do
-Allows the user access to the 7 cortexes of the shaper protocol
-Suit is naturally regenerative, purpose for allowing removal and addition of biots at the whim of the user (particularly shaper hands). Removal of grafts takes 4 days to heal, before another item can be grafted on.
-Suit is hermetically sealed with the properties of the vacuum ooglith, combined with a lungworm and gnulith, for space use.
-While meant for shaping primarily, the suit is capable of combat and the flesh like substance of the Masquer allows relatively unabated movement.

Description :

"The caste nearest the great god, Yun-Yuuzhan, who shaped the universe from his body. It is they who know the ways of life, who bend it to our needs." - Vua Rupuung

After spending time with Matsu upon Selvaris, examining the processes of escalation, Gabriel discerned a need for a new set of armor specifically for non-vong who were interested in the processes of shaping, while not inclined towards grafting of biot upon person. It was with this in mind that he turned towards the Ooglith cloakers and masquers, asking the shapers of his Legion Yun'Do to not only create this masquer in the shape of their God, Yun-Ne'Shel, but also to do so with a number of goals in mind. At first, this was met with resistance, as it was discovered that Gabriel had the plan to merge a non-vong into the Shaper Caste, which was likely one of the more xenophobic and religious groups of the Legion Yun'Do. However, when plied with promises of efficiency and traditional proclivities to pain, along with their having met Matsu in person during the escalation of thousands, they consented (the few traditional masters were allowed to seek other work in shaping within Selvaris - refusal did not lead to death).

First and foremost, the properties of the Oomlith Masquer work to combine several characters of cloakers and masquers alike. With the assistance of a suit covered lungworm tube and gnulith, the armor has been hermetically sealed with the shaped properties of the vacuum ooglith. Next, the suit was made with the capacity to regenerate at an extremely effective rate, for the purpose of being able to add grafted shaper hands, in compliance with Master Rank Shaper protocol, and remove them when the focus of the armor will be towards combat effectiveness. One does not necessarily exclude the other, those this variability could not be ignored in the shaping process. Grafting and removing of grafts can lead to death of the armor should the proper time not be allowed for healing (4 days). The armor was made in the image of Yun-Ne'Shel, for the purposes of sowing prestige into the image of the armor, allowing an almost zealot assimilation of wearer into the cast.

The hood/helmet of the masquer is a cognition hood, linked directly to a copy of the Qang qahsa, which allows the user direct access to 7 cortexes of the Shaper Protocol. In doing this, through the direct link, this gives the user all the information needed to assume Master Shaper rank with no previous training. The cognition hood has also been fitted with a tizowyrm modified membrane, which allows the wearer to not only understand the Vong language, but to speak it as well, though accent and tone could not be overcome. The benefit of the cognition hood is derived from it's usage as a direct interface with the masquer, allowing for the direct interaction between suit and wearer.

How does this work: The wearer is trained with the use of the suit, in the same way that someone is trained to use a speeder or computer. They know how the computer/speeder can work to achieve their goals. They press this key, the computer does this. They steer the wheel and the speeder does that. However, while they are required to extensively train in this vehicle, the oomlith, they are not required to fully understand the principles of the suit (i.e. the 7 cortexes). While the use can fundamentally improve the understanding, increasing curiosity and leading to a more manual use of the suit, the suit normally will guide the user through the interface of the cognition hood (which will provide the threshold between the user and the suit). Just as someone who drives a speeder doesn't have to understand the physical laws governing the speeder, or how repulsorifts work, the wearer of the Oomlith is not required to fully understand the complexities of shaping. It does help though.

Much like other cloakers, this masquer has superficial and undetectable cilia, allowing it to be worn underneath a cloak of nuun or more commonly, an oozhith cloaker. The likes of which produce a sheen across the surface of the armor, through ingestion of microorganisms, which projects an image of the surrounding environment and renders the image of the wielder either invisible or as a moving shimmer. On top of this, the helmet sockets can be fitted with eye biots, though the most commonly used and easiest to graft would be the Mqaaq'it. This eye replacement, which would connect directly through the cognition hood to the wearer, would project their emotions through the changes in the eye color as well as serve the purpose of allowing the wearer to see beyond the visible light spectrum and at the microscopic level (both of which would be necessary for the sort of automated shaping that this suit renders). The suit comes standard with these eyes, grafted in, and removal would mean the inability to shape until the Mqaaq'it are replaced.

Strengths:
[+] Allows wearer to shape at master level rank (RP purposes only, not intended for battle)
[+] Light - While most vong armor is light, due to it being crustacean based, this suit is much lighter than typical vonduun crab armor
[+] Force Dead - like most vong species, this suit is force dead. However, it also masks the users force presence within, in order to give it the appearance that the wielder is vong.
[+] Suit Heals - Over the course of 4 days, suit will heal itself. This can include wounds that would normally be fatal to the masquer.
[+] Suit is flexible - Despite it's appearance, the suit is essentially hardened robe and cloaker, allowing an almost unimpaired combat proficiency, should the need arise.

Weaknesses:
[-] Extremely painful to don - just like the historical masquer and ooglith cloakers, the Oomlith Masquer is excruciating to initially don as well as remove.
[-] Slow goings - the suit requires time to remove and put on. Meaning that the wearer wont be able to adjust suits in the middle of an invasion without a couple hours for removal.
[-] Development - In order to properly use the armor, training and development is required, unlike regular suits of armor. This is because of the largely non combative function of the suit
[-] Not very protective - Despite it's armor ranking, unlike other vong armors, this suit wouldn't stop the cutting power of a lightsaber and is only mildly resistant to common weaponry such as blasters and slugs. It does, however, do a nice job of deflecting kinetic damage.
[-] Loss of self - While the cognition system is compatible with humans, this specific setup lends itself to a deep level of immersion. As such, prolonged use without breaks can cause the wearer to loss a sense of their own identity, merging into the Shaper Caste entirely (this would take a month or more, but one can often get lost in their work when equipped with passionate zeal).

If I have a bunch of architecture books, does it make me an architect? I assume you're doing some significant dev with Matsu on this?

This seems to go a long way from the Yuuzhan Vong values of sacrifice though (Then again, I suppose Matsu has already sacrificed both limbs in the name of Yun-Amon!

[member="Khallesh "]This is absolutely a work-in-progress. We're still discussing and working out details about what should be included and how to balance it with weaknesses. And there's already a significant thread (10 posts at about 8,000+ words). More if needed, for sure.

Guys...it doesn't have weaknesses yet because I haven't written the weaknesses in yet, I also haven't written the strengths in. This was just my initial notes on what I was thinking.

Yes, it does, even though Matsu has in fact lost both her limbs. That being said, the Shaper Caste is quite different from the warrior caste in that they don't glorify sacrifice in the same way, more for doing what is needed in order to shape. " Just as the Warrior caste emulated Yun-Yammka, the Shapers attempted to model themselves after their goddess. This meant that they did not have an excessive level of outward scarring but instead made use of necessary ones." They had tats, but didn't glorify the loss of limbs like the warrior caste did.

Also, your analogy is a bit off. A more apt analogy would be: An architecture book that knows the question and provides you the answer, as the information would be pushed through a tall-yor, which has been grafted to the masquer. Which was known to respond to visual stimuli or actions of the user to transmit information. I don't see it beyond the scope of the item, which is molded to the masquer and database, to be capable of determining the needs of the wearer and providing appropriate information.
