STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
Hunting/Tracking/Survival - As most all young witches living in the wilderness of Dathomir learn by necessity, Ysan is highly proficient in hunting, tracking, and survivalist means. Unlike most Clan members, however, her knowledge extends beyond just those required for living in her clan's lands. Her position as Windtalker necessitates an ability to endure all manner of environments provided by her home planet.

Linguist - From a young age Ysan was made to learn the many dialects and tongues of her people in order to better serve the clans as a Windtalker. Because she has practiced these things it makes it easier for her to learn other new languages.

Calm Methodical Thinker - In times of stress her placid demeanor allows her to make decisions based on sound logic. This often keeps her out of danger and on a path that is conducive to keeping herself alive, but enabling her to ensure balance is maintained throughout the Clans.

Neutral Party - Due in part to her upbringing and the need for her to be able to make choices that would not weigh her heavily to one side or another, Ysan maintains a neutrality throughout disputes and disorder. This often can put her in compromising positions where she cannot abide by certain laws or methods of one clan that might go against those of another. Because she is essentially a tie between all Dathomiri villages, this makes her an ally to everyone but a citizen to none, instilling in Ysan a sense of alienation.

I Act Because I Care - Ysan loves her job and loves her people. She especially loves being able to serve them in a way that keeps the clans content. This forces her to put everyone else before herself and so does negate a certain sense of pride, perhaps even arrogance that can be found amongst normal clan members. It makes her quirky in the eyes of her fellow Witches and oft times makes her an outcast amongst her people. Ysan is perhaps one of the very few who does not view men in the same sense as her sisters do - viewing them as more than simply something to claim.

What's That? - Technology? Ffft. Let's not go there. Aside from her magicks, Ysan is at a complete loss of anything beyond the natural realm. As a matter of fact, she's really quite ignorant to much of the galaxy surviving beyond Dathomir. Her exposure to offworlders is limited, though she's in for some uncomfortable shell-shock when the Clans send her out to represent them amongst the stars.

Gentle Soul - Ysan's every daily routine depends on her ability to openly trust that the people she meets and talks to on a regular basis are going to let her live to see the next day. While she knows to exercise precaution when traveling, Ysan is perhaps too trusting of strangers because her position as Windtalker gives her immunity to the war between the clans.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born to a woman outcasted by her clan for taking an offworlder as a mate, Ysan was destined to be leper from day one. The father was hunted down and the mother wounded - pleading in her last moments for her killers to save her daughter who was 'marked by the fates'.
Ysan was saved from an early grave by a curious birthmark on her back: a starburst. The infant was taken to the clan's Shaman who immediately recognized the symbol as a mark of destiny - the Windtalker was born.

Given the unrest amidst the clans following the Gulag Virus, visions had been seen and prophecies had been made of a single Witch who would know no family clan, but would constantly travel the winds bringing with her the whispers of kinship to once more sew together unity amongst such discord. The girl was named Ysanae Vela, Windtalker.

Ysan experienced a slightly different upbringing than most young Witches. She was taken in amongst the elders and kept away from the other younglings in order to start her education early. Soon as she could walk and talk she was taken from Clan to Clan where she was introduced to the other elders. Ysan would spend the first ten years of her life being passed between the Clan Mothers, learning the laws and rituals and ideologies and tongue of each clan so that she would have a firm understanding of them all. She made very few friends and experienced very little in the ways of singular emotional attachment. Though they had intended to keep her detached, Ysan grew to love and appreciate all of her Dathomiri sisters and mothers. She learned many things from each Clan, and in her travels was able to glean priveledged knowledge and experience that was otherwise remote to others whose lives revolved around one territory and one way of life. She became worldly and accepting and widely open to new ideas and different interpretations of life - and as she grew older this often set her apart from the other Witches. Upon coming of age a year ago, Ysan soon was tasked to fullfill her role as the Windtalker.

She spent her days traveling between Clans, taking information and communication from one to the other, bandying diplomacy as a means to insitute closer ties between the families. After seeing the rise and threat of Omni and learning of the devastation from offworlders, it has become imperative that she continue her mission of forging unity between the nations in order to keep them strong and united as much as possible against these otherwordly threats.

This was until One Named Sarge entered the scene. The wayward man came to Dathomir with the intention of making amends and gaining some closure. What he ended up with was a curious outcast for a guide. Ysan and Sarge made a fast and firm friendship, traveling through the Dathomiri wilds. He introduced Ysan to a myriad of technology, including a very unique camouflaging cloak.

After bringing the man to the hands of the clan elders to achieve his peace, the pair parted ways for a time. After many moons, Ysan once more crossed paths with the strange man and invited him to join her as she traveled to a desert clan to deliver a package of crystals. Her mission was thwarted by a strange change in tides: that night a clan of rancor thrashed their pathway an all of her belongings, including the crystals. Disheartened, Ysan turned her attentions to learning the reasoning behind the rancor's shifted migration. Following the destruction of their path back to a nearby gorge, it was there that they discovered a landslide to have destroyed their normal routes. Down amidst the rubble, following the echoing cries of a trapped rancor child, Ysan discovered a

Love it!!

I thoroughly enjoy the concept of a neutral witch who is able to connect all the clans together. I find it a very neat concept in that she is accepted by all and granted immunity... but at the same time outcast.
