STRENGTHS:
  • Helmblessed: Although growing to become a merchant, the war against Beorlund made him take arms at an early age developing great capabilities, possibly due to his Valkyrian blood, in combat. Yngvarrhas shown exceptional talent on wielding axes rather than swords, because he was never able to grasp the more 'gentle' stances that sword users utilize. Furthermore, he has surprisingly great skills in atypical for Valkyri ranged weapons such as slugthrowers and blaster rifles. Yngvarr prefers slughthrowers over blaster rifles as despite his travels around the galaxy, his Valkyri blood still screams 'technophobe'.

  • Teignblessed: Despite his brutish appearance, Yngvarr posseses a fast thinking brain possibly due to growing up to become a merchant. It has saved his skin in numerous encounters.
Although a great patriot, the man has distinguished himself of being rather different in his approaches to combat. He is a firm believer of Valkyrian lore but has reservations on dying. This was the decisive trait in the Battle of Älkheim where heavily outnumbered, Yngvarr and his men were able to hold their ground against the rebellious forces of Thrand Dawnbringer.

NEUTRAL:
  • Odiirblessed: Yngvarr has proven as a reliable leader in battle, mainly due to achieving victory in Älkheim where the odds were heavily against him and his men. He attracts people due to his rather different approach to battle, although the majority of Valkyri have criticized his approach labelling it 'cowardly' and 'non-valiant'. This is considered a plus and a minus, as his capabilities of a leader are limited to that of a good sergeant. He can't be considered for any different aspect such as king or similiar positions of leadership.

WEAKNESSES:
  • Älkskinned: Yngvarr shares one of the most common traits amongst his people - stubborness. He is often called Älkskinned due to the thick skin that Midvinter herbivores called Älk generally have implying his often rejections of new ideas. Although, he has rarely accepted new ideas, Yngvarr loves doing it his own way.

  • Aletongue: Just like many of his people, Yngvarr adores ale and talking about his deeds. Something very common amongst the Valkyri. Taverns tend to be full on Midvinter and a person could not possibly hear his thoughts due to the loud boasting every patron demonstrates. Such Valkyri are often referred to as Aletongued or Tavern Champions. The latter implying those that actually have done all their 'great' deeds in the tavern rather than anywhere else.

  • Heatloather: Born and bred on the frigid world of Midvinter, the Valkyri recognize temperatures above 0 degrees C as summer. Yngvarr absolutely detests such temperatures and laughs at every sentient that feels freezing on -20 degrees C. As he is often out of Midvinter, Yngvarr only tends to journey and take jobs on cold planets.

APPEARANCE:

Yngvarr most often has his armor on with his helmet off when not engaged in any sort of combat. The armor though is barely seen due to the usual thick furs he wears, something very common amongst the Valkyri. He carries his slugthrower on his back, while a small blaster pistol stays in a holster on his left hip. On his right hip, a handle hangs from his belt which is the handle of his retractable vibro-axe. A long curved vibro-dagger is sheathed on the back of his waist.

((OOC: Subimissions will be made ))

PRE-ROLEPLAY BIOGRAPHY:

Yngvarr Redmane was born fourty two years ago in a village called Pyrethveit in the ward of Älkheim. The ward was spread aross a small width of land and was dotted by small villages. It was situated close to the furthermost southern point of the sole continent of Midvinter. The ward was named Älkheim due it being one of the amassing points where Älk roamed and fed. Despite being one of the homes of the primary source of meat for the Valkyri it was regarded as insignificant and was normal for a Valkyri not to ever have heard of that ward. Those who have actually heard about it usually labelled Valkyri who came from there as Älkherders. Moreover, the accent that Valkyri possessed of that geographical location of Midvinter was obvious when they spoke Runian and Galactic Basic.

Yngvarr's parents were both crafters, one of the few in the whole of Älkheim. His father was a leatherworker and often people would venture from other villages to him to buy some fine leather or get their own leather garments maintained. His mother was a decent ice decorations maker, she worked well with ice and often surprised young Yngvarr with gifts that were toy-sized statues decipting Teign. The deity that was absolutely revered by his family.

Pyrethveit, Yngvarr's village, was the home of the small clan called Redmane. They were mainly craftsmen and hunters, with just a few being herders. The name of the clan came from the fact that most, if not all, were red-haired and their hair was mainly curly and thick similiar to a mane.

Yngvarr's upbringing was that amongst craftsmen mainly, with just a dozen hunts made here and there. It was believed that he would become a leatherworker such as his father when he came of age. Thus, young Yngvarr had all his time on learning the trade from his father. During his teen years, he was quite the troublesome child often venturing away from the village on an adventure with other mischievous clanpeers and got into fights in other villages.

Around the age of twenty, his father had saved enough money to send him to Thainbroek to continue his journeyman status under the tutelage of a master leatherworker in the capital. Young Yngvarr was quite happy to be out of the village and finally see the wonderous capital of Midvinter - Thainbroek.

He spent a couple of years in Thainbroek, learning his trade and enjoying the alehouses of the capital. A merry drinker and regular tavern patron, Yngvarr's physical characteristics were well remembered by many. After finishing his tutelage and opening his own shop in Thainbroek, around the age of thirty, war broke out.

Beorlund the Bold, with his iron grip and complete denial of outsiders, was challenged by the one that's throne was his by birthright - Thrand Dawnbringer, the firstborn son of the previous King, who was banished after Beorlund had usurped throne. Yngvarr with a fiery heart and Valkyrian blood craving battle was mobilized in the forces of the loyalists - those that supported Beorlund. Yngvarr's personal belief was that he served the King, whoever he might be. It felt as a duty rather than some radical belief that others demonstrated when they took up arms against Thrand Dawnbringer.

War. War never changes.
Yngvarr was the only Redmane that fought for Beorlund, his clan was supporting Thrand's cause and fortunately for Yngvarr he did not meet one of his clanmates on the battleground. His duty to stand against the rebellion branded him as a traitor in the eyes of his small clan. Nonetheless, Yngvarr was a dutiful person and he could not change that.

The man participated in many battles between the loyalist and rebellion forces, some won and some lost. He realized during the war how blessed by Helm he was. Yngvarr always liked leatherworking and haggling as a merchant but he could not deny that he was skilled in battle. As the war proceeded, the youthfulness disappeared. Replaced by a hardened veteran look and way of thinking. This way of thinking was quite distinctive from the rest of his Valkyri kin. Although he believed in Beornskald, Yngvarr had quite reluctance of going there just yet.

With the experience he gained, Yngvarr was assigned to command three dozen men. His approach to battle was noted by many. Some serving under him abruptly reassigned themselves in other groups, labelling Yngvarr's approach to battle as cowardly and non-Valkyrian. Others remained. The man won numerous skirmishes and those he lost, Yngvarr minimized the loss of men.

Eventually, in his group remained only around two dozen men that thought similiarly as Yngvarr. His negative popularity had him and his group assigned in the insignificant ward of Älkheim - his home. At that time, he was able to return to his home village only to be welcomed coldly by the few that were not participating in Thrand's army. He remained only one night and left back to where his men camped.

The next dawn, a scout reported that a force of around hundred Valkyrian rebels were gathering and moving towrds their position and a day's time would arrive. Possibly, they were aiming to secure the ward and utilize its vast amount of Älk to support their campaign. Heavily outnumbered around 4 to 1, everyone believed it was their time to go to Beornskald. But not Yngvarr. Haggling was simply outmaneuvering the other, and that was what the Redmane aimed to do.

The most unorthodox strategy probably ever seen in Valkyrian history was employed that day. At this current position, Yngvarr ordered the fastest digging possible by Valkyrians. Numerous simple traps of deep holes were dug in order to trap enemies. The plan was simple. Yngvarr's men were to use the cover of the snow, aided by the snowy weather, to lay spread around on the ground. A few others would take position behind the few tall trees that dotted the clearing and begin firing projectiles at the enemy when some would fall into the trap. When the traps were triggered, Yngvarr expected confusion and with the cover of the snow they would be amidsts their confused and surprised foes who would have their attention at the firing men behind the trees.

And so the plan went into action.

The rebellious forces moved into the trap. Those that did not fall in the traps were surprised and focused on where their comrades had just fallen into a pit. The sudden projectile firing from the trees by a few men confused even more the rebels who were attempting to regroup after the chaos that ensued. Yngvarr's forces would not let them do that. As white ghosts, Yngvarr's men let out intimidating roars as they jumped ouf their covers, soaking their white covered furs with the blood of the enemies. Despite outnumbered and possibly outskilled, Yngvarr's men survived because they had outsmarted their foe. With the echoes of the victorious loyalist warriors, the few who valued their life more than a journey to Beornskald were let free.

And hence came to prominence the name - Yngvarr of Älkheim.

Immediately after, Yngvarr was stationed back at Thainbroek to protect the capital from the forces loyal to Thrand Dawnbringer. The siege of Thainbroek soon arrived and it was bloody. Thrand's forces assaulted the capital, imbued with motivation to finally bring this war to an end with a victory, absolutely obliterating Beorlund's forces. Fortunately for Yngvarr, he was knocked out cold with a gushing wound in his chest. When he awoke, the warrior had been patched up but stood captured and kneeling amongst other of loyalist soldiers.

Thrand Dawnbringer was the new High King of Midvinter.
Much more mercyful than Usurper, the new High King allowed those that fought for Beorlund to be free. Many who were radically obsessed with Beorlund and his anti-outsider policy chose death stating they would rather die a Valkyrian than live the rest of their lives witnessing the deteoriation of Valkyrian traditions. Yngvarr, on the other hand, was not a radical. He was simply doing his duty and his popularity due to the battle at Älkheim was quite at the heights currently even though with mixed feelings. Thus, Yngvarr accepted the offer to be free. Those that chose spat at him and at those that took a similiar decision. Although not well perceived by Thrand's forces due to his cunning victory at Älkheim, the warrior resumed his life. A life that had a reputation and was popular and known amongst most Valkyri, if not all. Unfortunately it was more of a negative reputation and popularity. He judged best it would be fine if he travelled around the galaxy offering his battle skills rather than opening a leatherworking shop that possibly no one would purchase from due to his reputation. Nonetheless, Yngvarr still often visited his homeplanet of Midvinter.

In the end, there's nothing better than the sweet cold air of Midvinter.
