  • One Shot: Pull load/crank.
  • Six Shots: Reload Cylinder
Effective Range: Approximately 27.5 - 42 Meters
Rate of Fire: Slightly slower than 'pump action' or 'lever action' rifles or shotguns.
Special Features:
  • Fear No Evil: At great personal cost and difficulty, Ostanes has made sure to leave no trace of Darkness on this weapon. Whilst it bears definitively no trace of the Light either, it is utterly neutral. There is no Force Nexus, even limited. It simply is a weapon of a hunter and close friend of the Sorcerer. As a side effect of this peculiar touch, the mild auras of unease that most Sithspawn radiate will find less purchase in the mind of the hunter who wields this weapon. Not out of moral purity on part of the wielder, mind you. But out of the fact the weapon reminds them they have seen, and are, worse than that which they face.
  • The Final Shot: This crossbow does not fire armor piercing bolts that can rip asunder beskar or pierce phrik. It is a standard crossbow. Where it's power comes from is in the bolts, and the limbs. The limbs are imbued with a spell derived in part from knowledge gleaned from the Taurannik Codex. An extrapolation that helps empower any bolt fired from the weapon with a minor banishing effect against things Sithspawn or Dark Side spirits. The bolt enhances this, being made of precious Ankarres wood, tipped with Solari crystals he specifically bartered for in Shardrock Port, imbued by the Jal Shey to enhance the effect of the Ankarres wood bolt-shaft. While it is not a one-shot kill, the pierce of this bolt to such creatures and spirits is incredibly agonizing and painful. Two of three, almost regardless of placement (provided they are more than a glancing hit) are enough to weaken most such things past any sort of combat effectiveness. And a whole cylinder may well kill it.
  • Prolonged Quest: As a nod to Ostanes' new-found home and abilities, the butt of this crossbow holds a canteen full of the precious Dathomirian 'Water of Life', made specifically to help heal. Whilst Seydon possess other means, these lack the backdraws of those, and are much less speedy and dramatic. It is more a way to wash away fatigue, pain, distress, and help speed the healing of all manner of injuries by a factor twice or less of the users' natural healing rate. Using this Water to continually wash away fatigue can back-fire in that, eventually, the user may well drop dead from exhaustion, as it only dispels fatigue and does nothing to actually refresh the bodys' own natural energy. However, it does seem to taste quite nice, at least, almost like a rose-hip and honey-suckle concoction.
Description:

This is a rare thing for Ostanes to make, really. Typically, the making of things such as this crossbow would be sneered at by Ostanes as beneath him. However, he has realized that where his feet tread, that road he travels, may one day betray him. As such, he has taken certain steps to try and ensure that when that day comes, the being known as Obeah, bound to his mind and soul, will not gain the bargained primacy of control struck between them. Such desperation lead Ostanes to make a gift for a friend of his mentors, and one he considered a friend as well. And to extract a promise.

The Hunters Oath, is a beautiful thing. A crossbow with the functionality of a revolver, it may fire six projectiles in total before needing a full reload. With the cocking mechanism, it fires only a tad slower than a pump action shotgun or a lever action rifle. Each bolt makes an almost silver-chime sound when passing the limbs as it is fired, a pleasing sound to most who hear it, but which seems to go with the weapons nature in unnerving the various unnatural creations it was designed to undo.

Each bolt is hand fashioned from ankarres wood, tipped with a specially imbued and cut solari crystal, made by a Jal Shey trader Ostanes found in Shardrock Port. The bolt is terror to Sithspawn, Dark Sided Spirits, Undead and all manner of such creatures. The pierce of it will wrack their mind and body in excruciating sensations. Repeated strikes from it will almost certainly lead to death or incapacitation of the target. With the solari crystal tip, it seems that creatures with hides made strong by Alchemy or Magic or the like tend to be lessened, pierced with unnatural ease and quickness, the crystal shattering within the target to be left behind, causing continual pain.

The canteen in the stock is merely an affectation of sentimentality. Ostanes trusts few. Likes even fewer. And calls less than a scant handful 'friend'. Seydon, for good or for ill, is one of those few friends. Bartered for from a Sister of Allyah on Dathomir, the canteen contains a mild Water of Life, able to help with minor to moderate injuries, and ease pain and fatigue. If one were feeling particularly cruel, pouring this in the wounds caused by this crossbow would be likely the equivalent of dumping salt in a raw wound of anything else.

Oddly enough, the string of the crossbow appears to be of some unknown animal tendon, twisted and braided, with small bits of leather and crystal in it, a very primitive looking thing. The specific meaning is lost to those without knowledge of the Witch Masters, and Dathomir, and the blending of their traditions. It is another affectation, a simpletons charm with dubious function and power, that is intended to keep one safe from bad dreams and memories, and direct the bearer into a brighter life in the future.

Seydon is allergic to PVP and spends all his time hunting NPC monsters. I very much enjoy seeing reasonable, measured, truly inventive submissions that are designed for story purposes rather than one-upmanship. I wish we got a lot more subs like this.
