SPECIAL FEATURES
- Data: The structure of the crystal lattice lends itself exceptionally well for data storage and transfer. Data crystals made from this material are substantially more effective at their function than the archaic designs used in the past. They are especially well-suited for new generations of droid brains, integration in communication hardware and other similar pursuits.
- Superconductive.
- Encrypted: The new crystalline lattice needs specialized equipment and expertise to handle and read. Making it less useful for the larger Galaxy and less profitable for commercial means, but makes it more secure to be used internally.
- Sonic: The structure of the lattice is particularly well-equipped to handle stress from sudden vibrations and sonic effects. Mostly this is to prevent micro-shattering by sonic servodrivers, but it also insulates well against sonic weaponry. To a reasonable degree anyway, it's still just a crystal.
- Data: This new generation mineral is ideal for rapid information transfer and has an exponentially greater capacity for data storage compared to the archaic mediums of the past.
- Encrypted: The unique structure of the lattice means that it takes specialized equipment and expertise to handle it. This makes it very secure against possible intruders and the sort.
- Fragile: It's a crystal. If it isn't protected or if it isn't handled with care it can shatter rather easily.
- Superconductive: Proper insulation is a must. Its superconductive nature makes it ideal for electric signals, but it also makes it susceptible to ion/EMPs.
- Encrypted: More of a challenge for repairs and potential upgrades. Less useful for commercial applications, restricts it to more internal needs.
In its pursuit to enhance its combat efficiency Didact extensively studied the ancient Data Crystals utilized by the defunct Galactic Empire and the archaic Gabonna Memory crystals. Both were competent in the fields of storing and transferring data, but more research was done to see if it was possible to increase efficiency even more. A clandestine scientific team began studying the crystalline structures of the Shards and Tsils with the intent of co-opting their unique physiology for their own ends.
The end goal had been the industrial manufacturing of new minerals with the same structure. To create sentience in a controlled environment without having to fallback to Artificial Intelligence all the time.
This was proven to be impossible or at the very least far out of their reach. The mineral produced after all the research wasn't anymore sentient than other minerals of its sort.
But the project was not a complete failure.
Whilst they were incapable of making artificial Shards on an industrial capacity, the mineral's lattice was increasingly more competent at its job than the designs of old. An additional benefit was that the Y2 was artificially created and produced, hence it was not necessary to prospect worlds and mine them for it.
Efficiency in design and efficiency in harvest.
