The Storm crystal used in the saber has several effects which cause the weapon to be a most useful tool for a lightsider, but a natural enemy to dark siders.
-Lightsaber crystals: When clashed, creates electrical arcs near it and concentrates its energy on impact points making it stronger than most sabers in those spots allowing it to function not unlike a somewhat weaker synthetic crystal. The typical length of an electrical arc made from the or crystal is around 2 times the length of the saber blade if the arc were laid out end to end. If one end disconnects and reaches out to a conductive material (or was guided to do so) that would be around the length it would be.
-Fear of the light: The Storm Crystal causes dark siders and individuals with cruel, malicious, or deceptive intents, or immense anger, to become very uncomfortable and even very fearful, feeling a strong desire to escape the presence of the crystal. They also seem to be make users and themselves extra resistant to dark side powers, while weakening the dark side around it.
-Connection: Xos is very accustomed to his saber and as a result works well with it, even guiding the electrical arcs it produces easily. It also furthers his ability to use force lightning, and gives and a greater resistance to electrical damage and dark side methods.
-Constant power: Unlike most crystals which need to be more actively accessed to gain their power, Storm Crystals actively spark. Because of this it may have to be handled carefully.
Handle design: The wooden handle which is polished, oiled, and waxed, is of rather sturdy design. It offers a greater grip strength and can actually work much like a curved blade can if held correctly. The Handle can be connected to a quarterstaff, which is what the handle was made from.
- Has a saber staff design so he can activate a second blade as well.
Crystal natural strengths:
-A stronger blade on impact points, the less points there are, the stronger the blade is at that point. Allowing it to go up against blades that could theoretically “break” most lightsaber blades.
-Creates lightning arcs when clashed, which Xos can guide, or simply directly off the crystal. This occurs to a lesser extent even when simply activated
-Causes considerable fear, discomfort, and desire to escape, for darksiders and people with anger, malicious, deceptive, or cruel intentions. And weakens the use of the dark side and its powers.
-Creates more resistance to dark side powers, especially lightning
-Won’t go out completely when in contact with Cortosis, as the Crystal generates a constant energy rather then one that can be put out, Cortosis would weaken the blade while in contact, but would not cause it to short out.
-Furthers Xos’s affinity for lightside force lightning
Handle strengths:
Greater grip and hand maneuvering, even almost working like those with a curved hilt.
Designed so it can be sealed off from water to avoid the crystal sending lightning everywhere if used underwater.
Can be connected to a quarterstaff.
Quarterstaff is of sturdy wood construction and can be used for walking or combat.
- Can use two blades one on either end like a saber staff.
- Could be used as a lightsaber pike by activating one blade on the end and using the quarterstaff in combination with the lightsaber blade.
Natural Storm Crystal weaknesses:
-Crystal to crystal, it has around the same overall energy of the blade itself when compared to most others, aside from the electrical arcs, meaning fuller immersing it in a target would not hurt the target any more than a regular lightsaber blade.
-Actually provides a light that can be deemed disorienting, as it seems to wave and alter never remaining perfectly still. Even holding a Storm Crystal over a piece of paper could still make it difficult to read. This also makes it fairly easy to identify.
-Very unwise to use underwater unless he’s able to actually pay attention, as using it underwater will allow the electrical arcs to spread everywhere and even shock, or kill, the wielder and allies and enemies alike.
-If angered he can become fearful of his own blade which may even straight up refuse to cooperate with him and become unwieldy, sparking electricity in all directions. The effects of this also can pose an issue to allies who have darker emotions, as they could become fearful of the blade and thus avoid it, which can be tactically terrible in a fight.
-Can still be weakened by Cortosis, just not shorted out.
-VERY bad weapon for a non force user to use as a lightsaber or open to the air. As most non force users couldn’t properly handle the blade or it’s electrical arcs. As a result it is not something he’d hand off to allies.
-The Crystal is easily recognized by force sensitives very easily, especially dark siders, since it pushes against certain dark emotions and even the dark side of the force itself. This means even a non force user, if they are very angry for instance, would actually be able to notice the fear and discomfort they felt regardless of if they knew where it was coming from. So those aware of the crystals properties can even track it down.
-While sturdy, unless otherwise protected such as using force weapon, the handle is actually much weaker to damage then most would be. Meaning out of Xos's hands or when he isn't paying attention, it's far more vulnerable. The same is true for the Quarterstaff.
Xos Drikres lightsaber is something very personal to him. The handle is made from the staff he used as a Baran Do Sage, formed so that he could wield it properly, while the crystal is also another thing connecting him to his home, where Storm Crystals are from. The very lightsided aspects of the crystal, and it’s affinity for electricity, he felt were very fitting.
Because of the crystal, it is truly a wonderful weapon to use against dark siders, or even to merely possess in a group of angered people, as the crystal weakens use of the dark side around him while also causing those with anger, malicious, deceptive, or cruel intentions to have a strong desire to escape the crystal out of fear and discomfort. The electrical arcs he has learned to control, and it’s increasing of his own powers in force lightning have become very useful. It also helps recognize those trying to deceive due to it making them even more uncomfortable..
Of course, it also is a dead giveaway even if it’s out of sight should a sith be nearby. As the crystal cannot truly be hidden very easily. And, if one understood how the Storm Crystals worked and knew they existed, could be tracked by those with such dark emotions or intentions. And it can be very dangerous to use underwater, as the crystal will spread it’s electricity throughout the water unless stopped potentially killing or harming many individuals nearby.
The reason for it's creation was to signify him as a force user, though he expects to rarely, if ever, actually have to use it.
