If the ship is coordinated with the automation then the lack of crew can protect lives.. when it is jammed or a part of the circuit of droid brains in the ships is disrupted (kammed or ship destroed) the weapon systems have less a chance to fire or work together.
Designed by Saotome for and with the Second fleets new upgrades and improvements. An advanced form of the slave circuit for creating a linked firing system that takes the guns to a new level. Linking a handful of ships to let them attack like a pack against target ships. With the upgrade to ships droid brains can run, monitor and operate the systems. Slimming down the required crew of several ships, moving them around space and coordinating the weapons fired to attack from several directions to divide and confuse sensors but also chip away or tear down targets. Sala'dine's emphasis on making sure the Second fleet and others who wished to get it had an improved design and option for their ships only went so far and this along with several other upgrades to ship systems were worked on to make ships vastly different and in some cases superior. The automation process to making the ships function with drastically reduced crew can help but if the droid brain is disabled then the ship becomes unable to fire without manual firing crew.
