Wisdom Tree Knowledge-Store

(OOC permission was obtained from Kiskla and the rest of the Jedi Council in order to do this.)

Corporation Name: Wisdom Tree Knowledge-Store

Headquarters: HQ on Tython as part of the Jedi Archives. ‘Officially’ based on Alderaan due to Tython’s mostly secret location.

Locations: Shipping distribution point, marketing and research on Alderaan.

Operations: Wisdom Tree acts not unlike the real world Amazon Kindle, providing electronic copies of texts. These texts are then distributed over the holonet once payment has been received. These texts come from the Jedi Archives’ mundane section, and no restricted, dangerous information is sold. However, the Jedi Archives are still the largest repository for information in the galaxy. The topics for which works are available span everything from history to science, art and more. Currently some 65,000 works are available, mostly because the Jedi Archives scans as many of their works as possible to preserve them. More are being added every day.

A secondary operation is the extremely limited sale of original texts or physical works, such as Phylis Alince’s own books. These are sent through Alderaan to their intended customers, and is a very select and limited part of the business.

Rationale: Quite how the Jedi Order raised money is a subject of much discussion. Seemingly it was undertaken just by government and civilian donations during the Old Republic, but a new era demanded new methods. With almost continual war and crises for the last (insert number of) years, the Jedi Order has had to turn to other methods of raising capital, such as rents and leases of property, tithes and commercial endeavour. This is one such endeavour which for virtually no outlay or upkeep provides a steady, if not huge, income stream, enough for the upkeep of the Archives as a whole.

Merging nicely with this is Phylis’ fervent passion in spreading knowledge and information.

Tier: Tier 1; small group of droids and organics providing a niche service.

Description:
Though the 400 Year Darkness has been somewhat overshadowed by the frantic activity in the last (insert number of) years, it was devastating in so many areas. One of these areas was the propagation and understanding of information. So much was lost not only of that time, but also the millennia before that there were very few places left in the galaxy with any accumulations of knowledge.

When Jedi Master Phylis Alince took over control of the Jedi Archives she was determined to reverse this. Gathering all the Jedi records into one place and beginning the process of copying and backing up everything. She then went further, going across the galaxy to find information and make copies of it for the Jedi Archives.

With this task ongoing, but well advanced, Phylis came to understand that there were non-Jedi scholars and interested parties who also were interested in understanding and reading about the past. Therefore, with the permission of the new Grandmaster Kiskla Grayson, Phylis set up a holonet store to sell this information.

Since Tython was and is a critical location, officially everything goes through Alderaan, and the main offices are there. However it is on Tython where Phylis and her droid and organic staff prepare and manage all uploads, ensuring nothing critical or damaging is made available. So far the response has been encouraging. This will not become a vast, galaxy spanning enterprise, but for what it is, it seems to be doing quite well.

All in all the content looks good for a tier 1. And the approval from the Jedi Council has been confirmed.

If you would please do me the favor of double spacing so it a bit easier to read, I would be very grateful.

If you can tag me when that is done, we can move forward with this.
