The world of Arbra lay in a system on the border between High Republic Space and the Sith Order's territories. Because the Arbran System lay close to the Sith, with whom the Republic had since entered open war, Jedi Knight Balun Dashiell volunteered to patrol the system for signs of unusual activity or cause for alarm. Transit to the system had been simple enough; he was well-versed and comfortable in the cockpit of his S-91x fighter, accompanied by his BB-Model Astromech, Chip, positioned in the droid compartment just behind the cockpit. The two communicated across the starfighter's internal comms while keeping a weather eye for traffic in the sector.

Roughly two hours had passed them by when Balun looked to Arbra itself for a change of pace. The only vessels entering and leaving the sector were either civilian or Republic Navy, as identified by their IFF Tags, and, having completed their patrol route, Balun suggested to his droid friend that they find somewhere to settle down on the forest world and stretch their legs, so to speak. In Chip's case, rotate his servos. As the ship changed vector, it wasn't long before the vast, empty expanse of space turned into breathable atmosphere as the Pegasus dove through the clouds, thrusters ablaze, wings leaving a trail as the Fighter broke cover and entered open skies.

A shrill whistle, followed by a succession of chirps and beeps, echoed in his earpiece as Chip announced a subterranean structure on his sensors. "Really?" Balun asked rhetorically, trusting the droid's readings. "Well, that sounds worth a look, don't you think? Hopefully it's a local settlement and not a smugglers' holdout or anything. It's been quite peaceful so far", he added. Inquisitive by nature, Balun was keen to see whatever Chip had picked up, though it would've been just his kind of luck if the place was inhabited by pirates or some other trouble to spoil what had otherwise been a good day.

The S-91x swept overhead, the cave entrance embedded in the mountainside, Balun firing the repulsors as it began its descent to land a little way out in a clearing surrounded by forestry on all sides. Unless someone was actively looking for another ship, they were unlikely to notice it had landed there. "C'mon then!" Balun called, pushing the canopy up and moving to dismount from the starfighter's cockpit, dropping lightly to his feet in the grass and taking a deep breath of Arbra's fresh, natural air. Chip's platform lifted him onto the top of the craft, and he rolled forward, firing his jets to carry him in a controlled fall, landing with an excited whirl.

"Show off", Balun said, grinning at the little droid before turning toward the mountainside, the entrance to the cave and what Chip had described as some sort of underground complex. If nothing else, going for a trek and taking in the sights of one of the worlds of the High Republic sure beat sitting in the archives of the Jedi Temple, or teaching younglings who'd much rather be fighting each other with their training sabers.

Madeline was walking through the mointainside, feeling nervous and a little lost. She had no idea where she was, but it wasn't that important anyways. She had just traveled here with public transport, since she didn't own her own ship. So she was happy they had been willing to take her anywhere. She hoped she wasn't anywhere near the High Republic though. The Sith had told her she was supposed to learn how to fight, but she wasn't THAT advanced yet. She had a small bottle of water with her and a few coins. She was hungry, but she wouldn't resort to buying anything if there was a chance she could find something edible for free. She wasn't taking any chances of getting in trouble. She had to get stronger first.

She was in the middle of trying to find some berries when she heard a ship flying over. "Oh." She let out softly and she quickly hid somewhere. She looked at the ship as it landed. She was scared. What if it was a High Republic ship? They were evil, or so the Sith told her. But not just that, they were strong and very capable too. She stayed hidden behind a small rock, making herself as small as possible. A man came out, he looked friendly? But appearances could be deceiving. Still, she really hoped he was friendly.

She stayed as still and quiet as possible, but then she saw something. A little creature was rolling of the mountain. 'Oh poor thing,' Madeline thought. Without a second thought she stepped out in the open and caught the creature. She held it in her arms while checking it for injuries. For a moment, she totally forgot about the figure out of the ship and just took care of the little creature. "You poor thing, that must've been scary right?" She said softly, her voice gentle and careful not to spook the sweet thing. The creature was alright and hopped out of her arms, continuing its path.

That was when Madeline froze. She realised she was completely out in the open now. "Oh. Oh no..." she muttered, her eyes wide as she turned to the man. "I- I'm Madeline, please be friendly," she stammered, not being able to stop herself from talking before thinking it through first.

This was bad...

The spherical astromech droid let out a sharp whistle, calling out to the Jedi as a stranger caught it in both hands. As Chip's Sensor Dome turned from Balun to the newcomer, it emitted a series of chirps, beeps, and a final quiet whistle, speaking curiously in binary. The droid didn't seem so much afraid as surprised and inquisitive at the newcomer's appearance, least of all at the droid itself.

As for Balun, he hadn't anticipated another at all, and the moment the droid called out, he pivoted sharply to find the source of the alarm. Though armed with his lightsabers, he refrained from drawing either. His heart rate leapt at the sudden surprise, but he stayed poised and looked at Madeline Nightingale Madeline Nightingale , then glanced beyond her to the tree, trying to tell whether she was alone. The girl's anxiety radiated from her, emotions in flux and being in tune with his senses thanks to years of training, it wasn't difficult to determine she posed little in the way of a threat at this stage. Still, she had come out of nowhere and could frankly be anyone with any number of motives.

"It's alright, Chip", Balun called to the droid in her arms reassuringly, "She's not going to hurt you". Balun raised his left hand in a greeting to the young woman, slowly stepping forward to close the gap between them while studying her condition. "Seems you gave my droid a fright. I'm Balun, and that's.." He pointed towards the droid, "Chip".

Stopping shy of arm's length so as not to startle the girl, Balun instead patted down his tunic in search of his cigarra's. He hadn't smoked since leaving on patrol and wasn't fond of doing so in the cockpit of his ship. "Are you all on your own way out here?" he asked, placing the cigarra loosely between his lips and lighting the end, heating the tightly packed tobacco into a burning ember.

"Lost, perhaps?"
