- Name: Nilch'i biyázhi (lit. Holy Wind), Windshear (Common Galatic)
- Designation: semi-sentient
- Origins: Rishi
- Average: 180 Years
- Estimated Population: Rare
- Description: Windshears are a large carnivorous, wyvern-like species native to the planet of Rishi that feed on other large flauna like Gloomwing Moths and Maun'gur, they are noted for their powerful lungs which can be used to produce powerful gusts and sonic attacks.
- Breathes: Type I - Type II
- Average Height of Adults: 5m
- Average Length of Adults: 17.5m
- Skin color: Cream, Sky Blue, Amber
- Hair color: Silvery Grey, Cream, Black
- Distinctions: Male Windshears tend to be larger than females of the species, the colours and wing patterns can vary between individuals although it is generally assumed this camouflage is dictated by their environment. As a result, Windshear wings have been observed by researchers for the study of atmospheric conditions, with poor air quality tending to result in darker colours.
- Races: None
- Force Sensitivity: Standard
- Breath Weapon - Windshear's possess a breath weapon that fires a focused beam of compressed air and a loud sonic screech. Adults use this for hunting and defence by disorientating and confusing their targets. The strength of this weapon is dictated primarily by the age of the individual, with adults being able to cut trenches through compacted earth.
- Armoured - The bellies and underside of these creatures is armoured in plate-like scales, meanwhile their manes offer some protection against bites and weak kinetic forces.
- Aerial Agility - Windshear's are surprisingly agile when they want to be, although this capability dulls with age and size.
- Intelligent - Windshear can use primitive tools to solve problems and have excellent memories.
- Vulunerabilities - Windshear's backs are poorly armoured and their membranes are vulunerable to slashing weapons.
- Exhaustion - Using their breath weapon can cause momentary weakness and in extreme cases exhaustion.
- Clumsy - On the ground older Windshears might struggle to manoeuvre about their terrain, particular in dense forests or similiar.
- Diet: Carnivore
- Communication: Hisses, Growls, Yips, Body Language
- Technology level: None
- Religion/Beliefs: None, although Windshears are considered Divine creatures by some local Rishii populations, most notably the tribe occupying the Auric Basin region.
- General behavior: Windshear are territorial creatures known to prey upon other large fauna, they hunt primarily on the wing using their breath weapon to dislodge prey from hard to reach places like forests or caves, although rare their population is usually known and avoided by low-flying starships. Presented with something larger in their airspace, a Windshear will perceive it as competition and attack, faced with something smaller they can potentially perceive it as prey and still attack. As a result, most Windshear terrorities are avoided and dissuaded from regions occupied by starports via air defence systems. Otherwise, a Windshear, unless threatened or due to prior trauma, will typically ignore anything smaller than a domesticated horse. As a result, they are usually welcomed by Rishii and local populations as they hunt more dangerous and hostile fauna and will actively target Krell Dragons who may attempt to encroach upon their nests.
Windshears are considered to be an apex predator of their habitats and people's view on them varies from culture to culture; for the native Rishi population they are divine protectors sent by Eostre to protect their tribes from the more dangerous predators, for the Mandalorians they are creatures of legend, to be respected, challenged and bested either for glory or verd'goten, for locals they are either a very dangerous nuscience or a blessing in disguise. Whatever your outlook, these creatures have a varied and colourful history, having once been tamed and used by Zaltli priests, the inspiration of a variation of Force-Wind used by Pyeth Raffinki and Viari Banu, and a counter-measure against invasive species like the Krell Dragons.
Today, their habitats are mostly threatened by the expansion of Exonium Mining, as the creatures tend to roost in rocky and resource rich terrains that are natural targets for corporate expansion.
