HISTORY

Humble Beginnings

William Harris was born in the core world. Growing up, his father was an officer in the Navy, and his mother was a representative of Congress, those two influences gave him drive. His parents always pushed him to put everything into his work and to never compromise on his beliefs. William enjoyed strategy games, and debating with his peers, and excelled in school. At 17 he was sent to the Naval Academy. With a logical mind, the idea of tactical operations stimulated him in a way he hadn't experienced before. Harris graduated with honors and was Commissioned. Before long he was a Captain. When Harris was 30 Years Old he was sent as an Envoy to the Dominion to assist in an ongoing war in the outer regions. During this campaign, he was recommended for further promotion by Dominion Command. Returning Home, he was instated as a rear Admiral at the age of 34.

The Dominion

Not Long after promotion, following the Outer Worlds campaign as an envoy, a surge of protests, riots, and finally revolutions struck the core worlds. Harris commanded his ships in defense of the core and was promoted once more to Vice Admiral before an imperial-aligned faction struck fast and deep into the core and destroyed the New Republic. Not wanting to risk capture of himself or his men, he communicated with the Dominion and commissioned alongside them in the Admiralty. Harris partook in multiple more campaigns against pirate and rival factions, and by 38 he was a full Admiral in charge of the Dominion's 7th fleet. Following an invasion of Dominion space by multiple factions, Harris was sent to the front. Following a pyrrhic victory Harris decided it was time for the fleet to rearm and repair at port. Harris encountered an anomaly while jumping to hyperspace and his ship, all hands were declared MIA by the Dominion high command. After about 6 months, Harris and all hands upon his ship "The Throne" Woke on the opposite side of the galaxy.

The Metal Lords

It didn't take long for the ships mayday to be picked up by the droid organizations known as the Metal Lords, though immediately squirmish around a faction of complete droids, Harris was able to make contact and get much-needed repairs and provisions for his ship and his men. Harris and the throne patrolled alongside the Metal Lords for about a year, building relationships with the droids and eventually learning of the fate of the Dominion and his compatriots. When his debt was repaid, and his loyalties realigned, he set out from the outer regions towards wild-space to contact friends who had Commisioned in the rising Fel Empire.

The Admiral

By this point, members of the military community had vouched for Harris as both a strong leader and tactician, and a reputation was growing. Harris, at the age of 41, was granted the title of "Grand Admiral". Though more relaxed and less action-packed than his previous posts, Harris was responsible for the overhaul of troops in his sector and led a top-down restructuring of the Imperial Military. Though he was never a personal fan of the Imperial System, the money was good and he could see the results when battle finally came. Following a skirmish on the Fel Border, Harris watched the Fel fleet smash a numerically larger fleet. Following this success, he was granted a seat in the Emperor's inner circle. Harris, using his knowledge and with the backing of his peers, began pushing for further reforms. Originally the reforms were strictly military matters, dealing with exercises, funding, and training, but before long Harris was granting input on political matters as well.

The Storm

Toran Fel, Emperor of the Fel Empire, began flexing his new-found strength in the military staff to start to bully nearby smaller powers for control of systems, and dominance of local markets. William Harris, one of the most Senior and Respected members of the General Staff took a step back at this point, beginning to observe the happenings of the citizenry. The Emperor, now knowing the strength of his revitalized armed forces, decided that it was time for a real challenge. A nearby power, roughly on equal footing with the Fel Empire, was the next target of Fel Agression. The war was short but bloody, and it didn't take long for the Fel Citizenry to take to the streets in violence against the Emperor's Government. Harris, feeling a change coming along, quickly called a meeting with some of his most trusted fellow staff members and created a secret emergency cabinet. The Purpose of the cabinet was simple, preservation of the Empire at any cost, and it was made of some of the most skilled generals, admirals, and statesmen that Harris knew. The pieces were set.

The Coup

There was anarchy in the streets, the people were hungry and revolting, and the Emperor had secluded himself away from his advisors. The military staff was quickly ordered to return to the capital world of Osseriton to have an Emergency order with a representative of the royal family. Upon arriving at the capital, the General staff was ushered into the Imperial Palace quietly among the rioting and unrest. The citizens were angry and furious with the government, and to subsidize the war the Emperor had raised taxes on basic goods and ignored his advisors when the question of conscription came up. For two years the people were sent into the meat grinder, and at the end of it all, there was no victory and no glory. The General Staff were introduced to the representatives and were given their orders; disperse the people, put down the revolt, and regardless of the cost of civilian life, protect the Emperor.

Following the meeting, Harris called together the Emergency Cabinet and created a plan, if the Emperor would have his own people killed rather than drop the taxes, then it was the Emperor who was to be removed. Harris made contact with several businesses to procure arms and made several public appearances to try and win over the public, and before Toran got wind of what was happening on the streets, the doors to the Palace were swung open and the mob, Led by Harris and The Emergency Council, stormed in. The mob very quickly overran the guards and Harris confronted the Emperor, arresting him and sending him to a holding cell under his direct supervision. When the smoke cleared, Harris was the undisputed leader of the Fel Empire, and if he didn't act fast it would very quickly come crashing down.

The Counter-Coup

Aside from an outspoken minority, Harris was hailed as a champion of the people. A leader who knew that service to the Empire was service to its people, not just the Emperor. Harris began moving fast, spreading the word and locking down several sectors. He and the cabinet very quickly moved to their stabilization plan following the coup, implementing curfews to reduce crime, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, and arresting the Old Guard of officers who remained loyal to Toran. As quick as they moved, they weren't fast enough to catch a rogue General who very quickly routed men to the prison in which Toran was held. The General broke out the Emperor and, with a few Companies of Men, tried to strike the Imperial Palace where Harris and the new staff were gathered for a meeting. Luckily, a loyalist inside the rogue General's unit was able to quietly pass word, and when the counter-coup arrived at the gates of the palace, they were quickly put down. All hands, including the ex-emperor, were killed in the firefight.

The Makings of a Stateman

William Harris and the Emergency Council had finally purged all remnants of the prior autocratic order, and now the question was becoming apparent." Who would lead now"? Harris knew that before long the people would begin to question why this cabinet, which was paraded as a temporary evil to curb authoritarianism, wasn't taking steps to bring the power back to the people. Harris and the Council began structuring together a plan very quickly, they would reinstitute the old congress, concede power to the elected legislature, create new courts for the people and, controversially, bring in another branch of the Fel Dynasty to reign as a ceremonial head of state. It didn't take long for everything to fall into place, the date was set, and a member of the royal family, Alexander Fel; a Blacksheep of the family due to his passive liberal views on governance, was invited to take the throne.

Following the Coronation of Alexander II Fel, the old Parliament building was renovated, and there was a surge of support for the young emperor who, although reserved, actively sought to support the populace. Coming up on the first elections, the question of Premier (Not too dissimilar from a president) was being asked of Harris, he was after all the one who stormed the palace with the people, ensured a stable transition of power, and rebuilt the capital following the political violence. After much thought, Harris was convinced to run and was overwhelmingly voted in as the First Premier of the new Fel Imperium. During his tenure, public infrastructure was modernized, the people became wealthier, and the military swelled. He established relations with multiple nearby powers and led a successful campaign against imperial insurgents in a nearby system.

The Unravelling

Was it an aristocrat who championed military support? Was it crooked politicians in the parliament? Or was it an enemy made while breaking up a megacorporation? The answer wasn't clear, but at 46 years old, coming up on his 5th year in power, a rapid shift came in the Imperium. On the Surface level, public support was high and polls constantly had Harris and the Emperor at over 80% Support, but very quickly overnight everything changed. Radicals had found themselves in positions all around Harris and Alexander, and before long the radicals began sewing discontent in the populace. At first, it was little, but following rumors of corruption at "The Highest Levels of Government" the action against the Premier was swift. Harris was deposed just before the results of the second Fel Elections were announced and a group of radicalized troops detained the Emperor, kidnapped Harris and his advisors, and overthrew the democratic system. It all happened so fast, and in order to prevent being killed himself in the following purges, Harris fled. The last images he saw of Osseriton were that of small groups of radicals burning businesses, looting, and redistributing the wealth before a nearby power jumped at the opportunity to strike the Imperium while it was down.

Exile

This is where my story with Harris picks up, out of character I am just recreating the character after the old one was deleted, but in character, this is a time of turbulence for Harris, his friends are scattered, and he is alone and exiled, making his way around the galaxy slowly and vying for any chance to restore the empire he helped build. What will happen next? Will Harris Restore his Empire? Will he go back to leading? Or will he finally settle down somewhere stable?
