HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Galleros Nul made himself the first Mandated Commander of the People of Zelos in 4 ABY, ending an era of freedom for the Zelosians. Sure the Empire had taken root under their noses, and the martial law imposed by Null allowed him the power to forcefully remove those Imperials. The title of Mandated Commander of the People of Zelos has been handed down to the next in line ever since. From Galleros Null it was to a subordinate officer. Sometimes it was passed to a family member. At some point around 600 ABY the title became the calling card of the Vyx family. The Vyx family really started pushing the military mentality, requiring all citizens of Zelos II to serve, which was not an unheard of requirement. But over time learning in the arts and anything not for military use was put to the side. Even though Zelos had not seen a war in any living Zelosians memory.

After centuries of living under an authoritarian military rule and a suddenly tightening grip from new leaders, a group of Zelosians decided they were better off living as they pleased closer to nature and not being dictated to by the military leader of Zelos II. The group was small at first and found an easy way to escape the iron grip of the Mandated Commander. Ironically enough the escape from military society came from the city of Nul named after the first Mandated Commander. The city closest to the Bare Forest. The leader of the group proposed a mission to investigate the forest that most Zelosians were content to just let be. Since the leader was a bit of a troublemaker the new Mandated Commander Vyx had no problem with this group taking on the horrible mission. Instead of going to the Bare Forest the naturalist group set up a settlement halfway between the Bare Forest and Nul. Far enough that no Zelosian was willing to investigate, and the group’s disappearance was passed off as more casualties of the Bare Forest and the zombies within.

Learning to live without the ease of technology was not an easy trick at first. Luckily the leaders had learned what was edible in their new surroundings rather quickly, and they had three months of rations and the ability to feed from the sun to fill in when the jungles were less generous. The choice between strict military life and the hardships of living off the land made the transition easier for most. Some struggled, a few died because of illness, but none ever thought of returning to the life they left behind.

At first the only rule among the new group of Zelosians was to remain inside the borders of the settlement. They were after all trying to escape the tight grip of the ultimate ruler of Zelos II, they felt no need to burden their freedom within the settlement with oversight of any kind. As families and as a result the settlement as a whole grew the elders of the group began preaching the value of nature, and replacing what could be replaced and consuming in moderation so that they did not trouble the nature they so loved to live amongst. A loose set of “rules” to be sure, actually more of a philosophy shared by the whole group.

Over time being closer to nature had these Zelosians evolve, or perhaps devolve. They took on more properties of their plant origins and looked less like humans than the mainline Zelosians resembled. Over time besides developing skin tones into the greens, they also started to grow leaves and branches as well. Those whose look tended more towards humanoid plants than mainline humans were also able to use the properties of their chlorophyll blood to sustain themselves for longer periods of time.

I love this submission idea. I would like you to go more into the history about how they came to be. A few ideas would be how they transitioned from one rule to freedom. What was the transition like for them? Did they create their own rule of law in this period? Just a few things.
