OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Kessel Mines of the Rebellion
  • Classification: Rebel Outpost/Mine
  • Location: Kessel
  • Affiliation: Wild Space Rebellion, The Resistance
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: 60% hired miners, 40% rebel forces
  • Accessibility: Single front entrance, primary underground. A multitude of undocumented and hidden secondary entrances.
  • Description: On the western side of the planet, several pit mines scar the planet. While this one, a coaxium mine, is unassuming to any other, hidden within is a deep network of tunnels housing local rebel operations. To the south, a set of mountains that the mine is technically a part of.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Entrance/Landing Pad: The open pit of the mines seems unassuming at first. A single set of landing pads for light freighters sits at the bottom of the pit.
  • Interior Command Center: Once the headquarters of the mine, this room has since been secretly overwritten by the secondary command center deeper within the mine. As for now, it acts as a bit of security theater, and a back up in case of collapse.
  • Primary Mine: The mine itself has been left, mostly, untouched. Miners still go back and forth, digging up and processing Coaxium and Spice. The heavy equipment provided by Si Tech has only increased production, and many of the vehicles still roam the main, spacious tunnels.
  • Tunnel Network: Once a simple mining operation, the mines have been expanded into a web of tunnels that stretch for miles and miles, some hidden, some obvious. Navigation of the tunnels is something rebels are taught to do by hand and through memorization, and no complete map of the complex network exists.
  • Hidden Hanger Bays: Miles from the primary entrance, a set of hanger bays exists, hidden in natural caves that look unassuming at first. Connection to the caves is a closely guarded secret, and none of the hired miners are aware of them. Able to store anything corvette sized or below, the caves are hidden inside the depths of the nearby mountains.
  • Living Quarters: Scattered throughout the complex are individual barracks for local rebel forces. Often only connected through hidden tunnels, each set of rooms is only fit for a few people at a time, and act as a place of reprieve for the men.
  • Primary Command Center: Hidden several kilometers into the mine, what was once a natural cave has been converted into the primary command center for the rebel cell operating out of the mines. Access to this point is hidden behind a series of unassuming doors, no true markings showing off the location. The room is home to the rebel command's security network, and can access it remotely through both wired and wireless access.
  • Secret Exits: Hidden under natural rock formations, some miles from the entrance of the mine, the near hundreds of exits act as a rudimentary, but nessessary way for the rebels to both access, and escape the mines without worry of an invading force trapping them inside.

SECURITY
Maximum:

Hidden on the lips of the mine, several remotely operated Surface to Air Missile Sites are cloaked by High grade camouflage netting and sensor deflection nets. Many of the tunnels are guarded by previously set up remote blaster cannons, which have since been upgraded from standard outer rim models, to Si Tech models, remotely operated by droid brain systems within the primary command center, rigged to detonate upon capture.

Each of the hidden tunnels is not only hidden behind natural features, but within the tunnels, each rigged every hundred feet with a set of remotely operated explosive charges, small enough to go undetected by most, and designed to be set off by squad leaders should an invasion happen.

Hidden exits, whether they be spider-holes or natural cave-built hanger bays, are all hidden behind the same netting, each hanger bay is built into the mountain to the south, and capable of launching at a moments notice.

To the north, the mines pre-established fortifications have been bolstered. Trenches dug around the front face of the mine, and and several entrances into the mine dug and hidden within the trench system.

WSR forces not only live, but operate out of the expansive and winding system of trenches, mountain hanger bays, and tunnel networks within.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
For centuries before, the Western Coaxium Mine was yet another of the many mines dotting the planet of Kessel. A hole in the ground rife with slave labor, filled with heavy chemicals and heavier equipment. For years, it sat, shifting hands between Hutts, Black Sun, Imperials, Sith, and other underworld constituents that might be of need of it.

Then the Wild Space Rebellion came.

The sudden strike on the mines, one of several, freed the mines of their current owners, a set of hutts, and turned them over to Si Tech's construction company, which heavily modernized the production of Coaxium. Abolishing the slave labor, the slaves were freed, and offered a full time, paying position if they wanted to. Many left, trying to start new lives as part of the rebellion, while some stayed, not having known anything else. Those that stayed were given full benefits and positions of authority, while the rebellion got to work.

Turning the mines from a simple strip mine, to a fortress. They knew it would come eventually. A web of inter-connected tunnels that dove deep into the mountains to the west, prepped and ready for whatever an invasion force might throw at them.
