Who We Are

Who are we?

The Tygaran Alliance is a confederation centred on the world of Tygara and its people. It seeks to promote law, peace, justice and security and to protect its people. In a nutshell, it represents a compact between the human-led paramilitary corporation Firemane Industries and the elves. The leaders are Siobhan Kerrigan and Anya Venari, who is know as Star Queen Tirathana the Seventh of the Eldorai.

Tygara is not ruled by one central government or inhabited by one race as elf. Instead, the elves are diverse and varied, reflecting the various archetypes that commonly appear in Fantasy. Common aspects are a monarchic form of government that is either a matriarchy or close to one, a religion centred on a supreme goddess figure and a perception of the Force that stands outside the Jedi-Sith two-party system. For a long time, the elves were isolated from the rest of the Galaxy, but know they want to ensure their voice is heard and they are not pushed around.

First contact with Tygara was fairly recent. Firemane provides advanced technology to develop and protect this world, but also maintains colonies and domains beyond Tygara. It is a major player in local politics. Intrigues between and within the elf societies often turn bloody and resemble a game of thrones.

Eldorai: These are the most technologically developed space elves and can be compared to High Elves or Eldar. Historically, they're also inspired by 19th century Japan. They originate from the planet Kaeshana on the doorstep to the Unknown Regions, but were forced to migrate when a massive asteroid devastated their homeworld, turning it into an apocalyptic wasteland where survival is a daily struggle.

They are the most united elves and are governed by an autocratic monarchy with strong theocratic elements. Officially, the Star Queen is seen as the governor of the Goddess Ashira. The Eldorai have technology that's up to galactic standards and inhabit the northern continent of Tygara. Their best warriors are the Angelii, an all-female corps of Force-users who use elemental powers to serve as palace guards and shock troops. The Exodus has humbled the Eldorai and forced them to be more open to outsider influence, but they are very proud. The present Queen has introduced many progressive reforms to bring them into the future, though these do not have universal support.

Qadiri: Of all the Tygaran natives, these are the closest to the Eldorai. They live in a part of Tygara characterised by deserts and are renowned as skilled navigators. Culturally, they are inspired by Ancient Persia and India. Qadiri are stronger and hardier than Eldorai, but still physically weaker than humans. They are tailored to survive in the hotter conditions of central Tygara. Unlike the Eldorai, the Qadiri are politically fractious.

Nominally all accept the Saoshyant, a religious figure comparable to a Pope, as the highest priestess of the Goddess Kashara, but her temporal power is questionable. The most powerful ruler is the Shâhbanu of Amikarese Empire, Semiramis, but her nation is one among many monarchies, principalities and republics that jealously guard their independence. By and large, the warlike Qadiri have a Renaissance level of technology, but they're eager to embrace what outsiders can offer them. Slavery is a part of life in all Qadiri states and voices of abolition are few, though Firemane is dedicated to ending this practice.

Xioquo: Cunning and ruthless, the Xioquo name has become a byword for cruelty on Tygara. This is a little unfair since the other elf races are hardly pure as white snow.

The Xioquo resemble the drows of Fantasy and live far beneath the earth in a place called the Underealm. They are known as vicious pirates, slavers and darkside Force-users. Centuries of isolation, resentment and oppression have left their mark on their society, where dark mistresses held the people in thrall and directed their hatred against outsiders. Their technology can be compared to the 19th and early 20th century on Earth. The Xioquo were taught that it was their destiny to rule Tygara and that one day their immortal Queen Mystra would awaken and lead them to glory. Recently, they were conquered by an alliance of Firemane, Eldorai and Qadiri.

The battle was brutal and the casualties staggering. Mystra was awakened, but slain by the Alliance after proving her evil nature. Now the Xioquo stand at a crossroads and the Alliance faces the task of winning the peace and integrating them. Some Xioquo embrace change, especially freed slaves, others seek to turn back the clock.

Vashyada: While the Eldorai, Xioquo and Qadiri have often sought martial glory and pursued dreams of manifest destiny, the Vashyada have been content with protecting what is theirs and being left alone. They are a strong, tough, isolationist people who live in a forest land called Yarkul. They are skilled guerilla fighters and hunters known for their archery, but stuck with a Medieval level of technology and thus stagnant.

However, both the Qadiri and Xioquo learned the lesson that though the Wood Elves are comparatively 'primitive', they are not weak, for the wood people repulsed attacks from both races. Politically the Vashyada are not a monolith, for though they accept the authority of two joint monarchs on paper, in practice their villages and fiefdoms are very independent. However, a demigoddess called Tylania serves as prophetess and arbiter for disputes. Whereas the other elf races lean towards being grey or dark, the Vashyada embrace the light side of the Force and do not tolerate the dark. Their Priestesses are among the greatest healers of Tygara. Unlike their cousins, they're fairly egalitarian as far as gender relations are concerned.

In addition, Tygara is now inhabited by the Kar'zun. This is a silicon-based race of rock people who once lived on Kaeshana along with the Eldorai. They are strong, tough and honourable, but also a wounded people. The rivalry between both races was fierce and they warred for centuries, before the Eldorai Queen Ariane the Great wrested victory from near-certain defeat and crushed the Kar'zun.

Relations were poisoned for centuries when she enacted a near-genocidal campaign and her successors forced the Kar'zun into reservations. Under the new, liberal regime of Queen Tirathana, the Kar'zun have been emancipated and given territory of their own. However, purists on both sides refuse to forget old grudges. It should be noted that Kar'zun communities still exist on ruined Kaeshana. Ironically, they may inherit it.

Firemane Industries was originally founded as an arms manufacturer and PMC, but has since evolved into a megacorporation that can be considered a corporate militarist state. The corporation is corun by Siobhan and Tegaea Alcori. It fields its own paramilitary forces, fleet and Force order, the Order of Fire. It is dedicated to developing worlds that suffered during the Dark Age and keeping the peace on Tygara. It has an alliance with the Eldorai, but also close relations with some Qadiri states and the Vashyada. The Fire Order is the Company's Force-using arm and embraces a philosophy of balance, trying to chart a middle course between the extremes of Jedi and Sith.

Q&A

1. That's a lot of text!

That's not a question, but you're right. Sorry about that! In my defence, [member="Valiens Nantaris"] insists on writing wall of text species subs!

2. So that's a lot of info, what can I do?

Anything really! Well, within reason. Want to be a scheming Eldorai or Qadiri aristo trying to play the game of thrones?
A Xioquo slave who's reclaiming their freedom? Or a drow matriarch who wants to drive out the foreign invaders. An abolitionist activist who wants to fight slavery? An Prietess or an Angelii? Go for it. You can make a Vashyada and be Legolas in space. Kar'zun are also encouraged. Maybe you make a rock person who wants to lead their people back to greatness. We're looking for nobles, warriors, pilots, business people and so on and so forth.

3. So I don't have to be an elf?

Nope, this is an inclusive faction. Many foreigners have settled in New Santaissa, the Eldorai's capital. Moreover, there's Firemane Industries, which is the largest employer for foreigners. You can be a pilot, mercenary, civilian contractor, researcher and so on. Moreover, we have our own Force order, the Order of Fire. It's a grey Forcer group.

4. This sounds cool and I wanna be an elf, but I'm not big on religion. Do I have to praise the Goddess all the time?

Nope, be an atheist and preach about how the Goddess is a lie! One of my elf chars is a dedicated priestess, but my Angelii doesn't believe in the Goddess. While most elves are religious or at least pay lip service, there's a rising number of atheists among the Eldorai. Especially since their homeworld got destroyed, which made many doubt the existence or power of the Goddess since she could not save Kaeshana. Undoubtedly this causes conflict, but that's good as long as it's ICly.

5. Do you allow Jedi?

We don't turn people away for having Jedi beliefs, they're welcome, too. But we ask them to understand that this is not a Jedi-centred faction. In other words, if a Jedi comes to Tygara, they won't be given legal authority and say the power to arrest people without official license. Nor do we have Jedi temples here. The beliefs of the elves clash with theirs a lot. Their Force-users are explicitly warriors, not monks or peacekeepers. However, Firemane has Jedi friends and members. If they follow the rules, they're welcome. I should note that the Wood Elves are very light sided and so Jedi could find common ground with them.

6. What about Sith?

Shoot them on sight.

7. That's oppression!

Yep, tyranny reigns!

8. If I make a male char, will the women enslave me?

Like, totally! Need to breed after all! Ok. That was a joke. On a more serious level, elf societies tend to be matriarchal, in the same sense that human civilisation has a history of being patriarchal. It's also a good way to poke fun at gender stereotypes.

This means there are varying degrees of discrimination against men. The Eldorai have become more liberal, partly by necessity, and so men are allowed to join the army (except the Angelii), rise in the ranks and the council of nobles now has men in it.

Does this mean old prejudices have been forgotten? No, they're still alive since it's a traditionalist society, but there's also a males civil rights movement. Of the other races, the Xioquo are the most extreme since men were treated as little more than slaves, but their nation was shattered when the Alliance conquered them, so if you want to write a male drow who's claiming his newly-found agency, more power to you. Of all the elf races, the Vashyada are the most egalitarian and there's little difference between the genders there.

Major Locations on Tygara

Ashira's Light Space Station: A purely civilian commercial hub that serves as a key trading, residential and fleeting dock. Firemane, the Order of Fire, the Angelii and the Church of Ashira have facilities here.

Star Fortress: Tygara's first and main line of defence. A massive military base bristling with firepower, powerful cannons and a defence shield. Constructed near New Santaissa.

Fort Kerrigan: A major Firemane/Eldorai military base located in northern Tygara to defend Eldorai settlements against Xioquo incursions. Totally not egotistically named.

Tirathana Skyport: Commercial centre and main defence station in space, now located in the orbit of Tygara. Serves as a trade hub, docking station for warships and civilian vessels, and a bastion if the planet is attacked. It's the home of the wealthier class of Eldorai since the exodus.

New Santaissa: The new Eldorai capital in northern Tygara. Massive city, most Eldorai live here, but it's also home to foreigners. Residence of the Queen and headquarters of the Angelii. Firemane's Tygara HQ is located here. Siobhan and Tegaea's villa is built on a hill overlooking the city.

Citadel-class Defence Station: Powerful space station set up as a barrier against raiders and foreign incursions. Can stand up to any warship up to the size of a Light Star Destroyer, but not larger. Built by Firemane to protect important worlds on the Coalition's frontiers.

Mystra's Echo: A Dark Side Nexus located deep in the Underealm. It was created by all the slaughter that took place during the final battle with the Xioquo and is concentrated on the location where their demigoddess Mystra made her last stand. Access is restricted and tightly guarded.

Grand Cathedral of Ashira: The main Eldorai temple in New Santaissa.

Foreign locations:

Firebase Ashira: Firemane paramilitary outpost on Corellia.

Firebase Ardarvia: Firemane paramilitary outpost on Atrisia.

Freetown: A Firemane protected settlement for freed slaves on Arkas.

Kaeshana:

These are the old locations from prior to Kaeshana's devastation. Though there are still survivors in remote areas, Santaissa and the other major locations listed here were destroyed, so they're mentioned for the sake of posterity.

Santaissa: Capital city of Kaeshana. Firemane Industries has its headquarters here. The planet's sole spaceport and the Visitors' Quarter, where foreigners reside, are here. Likewise the White Palace, where the Queen resides, and the citadel of the Angelii.

Ashira's Crown: Santaissa's main line of planetary defence. Three military bases protected by laser cannon turrets and anti-capital ship turbolaser cannons, along with Angelii and soldiers because armeis are not background noise.

Citadels of the Sun: The Citadels of Dusk and Dawn. Combined with Ashira's Crown they form a defence barrier to protect Kaeshana against invasion. Dusk is located in the far west, in the arid mountains far from central civilisation, Dawn only 400km from from Santaissa, acting in conjunction with Crown. Both have a contingent of troops, a shield and planetary defence cannons.

The Island of Fallen Angels: A secret prison facility maintained by the Angelii on a distant, out of the way island in the vast oceans of Kaeshana. High profile prisoners and dangerous political enemies of the Eldorai Matriarchy are kept here.

The Firemane Villa: The luxurious residence of the Kerrigan-Alcori Clan. Those who appreciate literacy and wish to broaden their horizons are especially welcome.
