Public Who Stole My Ship?

Planet: Coruscant
--------------------------------------------------
"I'm sorry that I don't have better news for you Mr. Frost," the man in the hologram said just as the image flickered yet again, some of the bandwidth in the connection dropping momentarily. It had been the third apology the little man had managed to squeeze in the conversation in as many minutes. And while this one was as polite as the other, it still sounded even less sincere than the last two had. It made Declan's head hurt. "If I receive any more information, you will be the first person I call." He said before the connection dropped and his image vanished, not even bothering to wait for Declan to reply.

Declan's day had started with receiving the usual run-around from the Alliance Security Service, that was whenever he actually managed to get them to answer his connection requests. When that proved frustrating and fruitless, he had a short, blunt, and bordering on rude, conversation with an Alliance Navy Admiral. She was a woman in a tight formal Alliance Navy dress uniform that wore an expression that conveyed exactly how beneath her attention the entire situation was, and how annoyed she was with the mere fact that Declan would waste her time attempting to speak with her. Now the Intelligence Service had taken its turn at blowing Declan off. This last guy at least took the time to pretend to be sympathetic to Declan's concerns. He appeared to take down the information Declan had, made all the right noises at the right moments, and then politely brushed Declan off. It made him angry.

House Frost was one of the Galactic Alliances' biggest supporters on Kuat. When the Alliance had approached Kuat Drive Yards for increased ship production at a reduced cost, his father had pushed for the other members of The Ten to accept the Alliances request. It had cost his father some of his political capital among the other families, making House Frost seem overly allied to the Galactic Alliance rather than to the betterment of Kuat itself, but in Declan's opinion, it had been worth it. In the thousands of years that Kuat Drive Yards had existed, many powers had risen and fallen, many of them had tried to destroy The Ten and take KDY from them, but none had so far succeeded, but many had come very close. Under the Alliance, however, they were prospering, had increased security and autonomy, and are making much more profit than they had in the last hundred years. It was in their best interests to support the Alliance, but some of the other families felt independence and neutrality were more important. House Frost was smarter and supported the Alliance.

So when one of the Raider-IV Class Corvette's that Declan had been delivering to Coruscant as part of the Navy's modernization program was stolen from orbit, Declan had expected the Alliance response to be more concerned. Instead, they didn't seem to care much at all. The Corvette wasn't the most powerful vessel that KDY supplied to the Alliance, but it still represented a four million credit investment. And since the Alliance hadn't actually received the vessel yet, KDY and House Frost specifically were looking at taking a massive loss. Sure the Alliance had launched an investigation into the theft, had said all the right things at the right times, but they quickly seemed to forget the whole matter and be moving on to other concerns, thinking KDY would simply eat the cost. Declan didn't like it, and he wasn't about to accept it either.

"Sith spit," Declan yelled as he punched a fist into the holo com unit that was in the middle of the bridge of the "Nightfall", his own Raider-IV Class Corvette. Well not his personally really, but rather his family's own vessel, manned by House Frost staff. It was a heavily modified version of the military unit that was being sold to the Alliance. It required far less crew to run and operate, much of its functions being able to operate by droids, and was made with comfort and luxury in mind. Several decks were dedicated entirely to accommodate the family and accompanying staff, with massive luxury quarters and meeting rooms filling space, all the while leaving the military-grade weapons and defenses intact. This trip was its maiden voyage, and this delivery was Declan's personal idea. He thought towing the vessels to the Alliance rather than having them retrieve them from Kuat would improve relations. So far the mission was a disaster.

"Captain," Declan said standing up straight, pushing away his anger for the moment. "Have my fighter ready for launch, I'm going to the surface."

Despite Declan not being familiar with Coruscant, it hadn't taken him long to find out where one of the seedier Cantina's was located, an establishment that had the reputation of catering to the Underground element of the planet. A few mind tricks with the Force, a few well-placed bribes, and he quickly learned that if anyone on the planet knew where his stolen ship had been taken, this was the place they could be found. He wasn't sure what he was going to be walking into, or how he would find the right source, but he was determined. He just had to trust the Force to guide him.

"I'll have a Corellian whiskey" Declan ordered after taking a seat at the bar. "Make it a double."

After the bartender dropped off his drink, Declan took a quick sip before turning to scan the crowd. It was the typical mix of bar scum. Drug dealers, scammers, Pazaak players, and the such. All drinking and careening loudly while minding their own businesses while trying to score a quick credit or make connections to further their criminal careers. This was definitely the right place to find a lead. He could feel it deep in the pit of his stomach. Now he just needed to wait to see what happened.

Declan stood by the bar, his jaw slightly ajar, but his eyes were filled with a mix of shock, surprise, and a heavy dose of amusement. The whole scene had been... ridiculous to say the least. By the Force what were those Wookies thinking? First, they came into the establishment drawing all the attention to them while obviously pretending to be drunk, since neither actually smelled of booze, and then they decided that threats of violence, punching a wall, and finally slipping him a card was the best way to get his attention. Their shenanigans were pointless, they could have simply walked in and talked to him, instead of making such a special and drawing way too much attention. Declan was obviously looking for something, he wasn't even attempting to hide that fact.

Looking down at the card, Declan decided that it had to be a scam of some sort. There wasn't enough time for the ship that was stolen from him to be at Tatooine already. And if that was where it was on route, KDY had more than enough resources to intercept the vessel. If they were connected to the theft, telling him here and now would get them nothing. A fleet of ships could be at Tatooine long before the stolen vessel made it there. HE would make the call just to be sure, but he doubted it was real.

The only interesting thing was the partial ship's transponder code. Those Wookies may not have been the thieves and been nothing more than scammers trying to make a quick credit, but they had stumbled upon some information that shouldn't have been public knowledge. Someone out there had information, maybe it would lead him to Tatooine in the end, but he doubted it, more likely someone here would have a better lead.

"Captain," Declan said into his com unit. "Have a Kuat fleet diverted to Tatooine and run scans for the stolen ship. I'm going to follow some leads here."
