When Our Perils Are Past | First Order & Galactic Alliance

skin, bone, and arrogance
EAsjcuu.png
Two Weeks Ago
On Alderaan, a pair of old-fashioned pieces of flimsiplast were passed from one side of the table to the other. The delegations each reviewed the document, covertly glancing at the other delegation while conversing in hushed tones between themselves. Finally, a member of each delegation signed their document, and exchanged them to be countersigned. A few cautious words were exchanged, and thanks made to the hosts of the meeting, before the group broke apart to go their own way.

Thirteen Days Ago
Across the borders of an empire, weapons fell silent. Stormtroopers pulled back to defensive positions. TIE Fighter squadrons broke off pursuits, reworking themselves into defensive patrols. Turbolasers stopped firing, leaving the vacuum of space cold and silent once more, as capital ship officers stood on their bridges, nervously glaring across the expanse at ships that had, moments ago, been targets.

The defense condition was high; across the wartorn reaches of the First Order, every eye watched the Galactic Alliance warily, waiting for them to fire. Waiting for them to slip.

Waiting for a reason.

Five Days Ago
Somehow, the peace held.

Cooler heads prevailed, and members of the First Order's armed forces had managed to avoid indulging their itching trigger fingers. Preparations for a summit at the Kaeshana Center for Diplomacy were well underway; soon, First Order and Galactic Alliance leaders would descend upon the Center to hammer out the details of a peace agreement between the two warring powers. Security officers were on hand to ensure the safety of the conclave as diplomatic officers ensured the smooth preparations for the meeting.

Two Hours Ago
The FIV Concordia reverted to realspace over Kaeshana, her hulls gleaming and with shining red markings indicating a diplomatic vessel. The ship was escorted by Battlegroup Nebula and, as always, transported the First Imperial Shock Troopers legion -- affectionately self-nicknamed Fortan's FIST. The Concordia's luxurious guest suites housed members of the First Order's diplomatic delegation: Foreign Secretary [member="Valessia Creed"], diplomatic aide [member="Madlyn Sol"], Minister of Security [member="Dante Calgar"], Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander [member="Asharad Graush"], and [member="Samka Derith"], acting as an observer for the Knights of Ren and for the Supreme Leader himself. Others were aboard to serve as observers as well.

Natasi Fortan was the head of the delegation and would lead the negotiations. She was accompanied by her husband, [member="Talbot Vitalis"] -- not quite the honeymoon he probably expected, but things happened - and her private secretary Clémence Wallace. She had one more appointment before making her way to the diplomatic center, and this one she had to do herself, without the rest of the delegation. She boarded a Type-D shuttle with Wallace and Vitalis for the short journey to the surface, escorted by a troop carrier and an honor flight of TIE fighters. They landed only a few miles from the Diplomatic Center in a rare green spot on Kaeshana -- the evidence of the First Order's pilot terraforming efforts.

"I need a moment to myself," Natasi said. She picked up a small posy of white levels from the table and walked towards the exit. The shuttle had landed on the outskirts of a small woodland; Natasi followed a stone path into the woods, flanked by a military guard, until she came upon a peaceful thicket, dominated by a large, solid block of Avalonian white marble, hewn from a quarry not far from the capital on Dosuun. It stood in memorial for the dozens of scientists and aid workers who had lost their lives in the first volley of attacks by the Galactic Alliance. Their names were carved along the sides of the block. Largest of all, at Natasi's own instruction, was the name of Sioux Chambers, Natasi's former private secretary. She had been Natasi's truest friend, and her death had put Natasi on the warpath.

Perhaps that was selfish. Perhaps it was wrong. But the Galactic Alliance had wheedled and prodded and needled and antagonized the First Order until ignoring it for peace would have been criminally negligent.

Natasi stood in front of the marble block, silent and still for a few moments. She wasn't much for wearing her emotions on her sleeve, but in this moment she found herself choked up. She missed Sioux, more than just as a faithful employee. Natasi knew that winning the war wasn't going to bring Sioux back, but she thought that she might have more sense of achievement and closure now that it was over. But there was only emptiness. She stared at the memorial block for a long while.

She didn't know how long she stood there, but eventually Talbot approached along the path. "It's almost time," he murmured softly as he came to a stop behind her. "You said you wanted to get there early."

"Of course," said Natasi. She crouched and laid the posy at the base of the block before standing again. She pressed her hand to the carved name of her friend before reluctantly turning aside and walked along the path back to the ship.

Now
The Center for Diplomacy was an imposing building, a testament to First Order might and progress. It stood in the crater left by the wreck of the FIV Wrath during the ill-fated rebellion on Kaeshana. The Grand Moff, with Wallace and Talbot, entered with the diplomatic attaché and was walked through the building. It had facilities for entertaining large parties, small parties, and all sizes in between, as well as guest suites in case negotiations required multiple days of discussion.

The conference room was a massive, cavernous affair in the top rotunda. A long table was set up in the center of the room -- for the principals -- inside a large, almost circular outer table for other important parties, and official guests and observers in the gallery. The mural disappeared, replaced by a holoscreen show data as required by the parties. Natasi would take her position at the center of the table on the left side, with Clémence sitting at the end where she could easily get up to communicate requirements to others in the room and elsewhere in the complex. She expected Calgar, Graush and Creed to join her there, and the others would sort themselves out.

Natasi gave it another look, then turned to the attaché. "Lower the temperature four degrees. With the lights on and people in the room, it will warm up nicely." She glanced at her watch; it was just about time. "Let's get out there, shall we?" They returned to the reception area outside the conference table, waiting for the arrival of the Galactic Alliance delegation.

Valessia Brentioch

Guest

Two Hours Ago

FIV Concordia.

Inside one of the luxurious guest suites, Valessia Creed sat with her back facing the stars. Eyes forward as she looked over her own words, written on a legal pad etched in old Brentaalan with markings that might seem foreign to most basic speakers. The lights were turned low most of it focused on the very legal pad in her hand. A ceasefire, the word had been written along with a question mark. It seemed a little hard to believe, years of war came down to this very moment with the dust settling right where it had started. Her pen came down to the legal pad as she wrote herself back into the narrative and as a Foreign Minister of all things. She began to write the words of a woman who watched the war, who sat as it passed by she watched the people she had grown close to bend to its will. Grateful that it would be over, the Scion of House Brentioch couldn't help but wonder if it had all been worth it. Would it all have been worth it? Her next question, would the galaxy be wide enough for the two powers? The galaxy had been wide enough before and perhaps it could be once more, at least on the surface of things.

She threw her thoughts back to the military balls she had thrown in years past. Her mind went back to the men and women in service, there was no romanticizing the effects the war had on them. For their sake, she was glad for if her husband's own nightmares were of any indication then she could scarcely imagine what they were all going through. This is what it feels like to have the pulse of a nation rest on your shoulder. She couldn't say that she felt it entirely that burden fell to another and as her pen continued to scrawl along the pad, and as she flipped the yellow tinged page she came to the conclusion. The brunette had climbed the social ladder, achieved power and managed her way into the Grand Moff's inner circle and so as the woman rose to her feet, pen halted momentarily as she surveyed the suite.

Valessia let out a languished sigh as she set the pad and pen down on the table. An inhalation and then exhalation slowly and deeply, as if the deep breathing would help her nerves. Hand in hand as she curled them into her chest. Her eyes cast a shadow along the silhouette of furniture against the wall. Thoughts went to her son, her infant son who bore her smile and his father's eyes the child that would carry their legacy. It would be enough, this ceasefire it would have to be and as she took a pace forward the pen and pad at her back she would not need a pre written speech. She would not need to dote on the past for they all knew it, they knew it all too well. They were here where it all began, where so many parents would come to know just who and what claimed their child. Where they all would have to learn to live with the unimaginable, for a moment she felt that pain. She knew that pain, having had a child only to give her away.

"Minister, we're ready." A voice from the other side broke her many thoughts and like a dye set in the water, they billowed away. Clouded thoughts turned to clarity as she grabbed her coat and gave a look in the mirror. This would have to be enough for all them, the galaxy depended on it.

Now

There was a moment where she didn't think her words would reach. From the Diplomatic Shuttle departed the hangar sometime ago, having broken through the clouds. Clouds that were only just now starting to reach a point where radiation would be gone in the next few years if they were lucky. The Center for Diplomacy, so plain a name she thought briefly but kept it to herself as the pilot manoeuvred the shuttle in line behind another one just like it. Uniformity and order were part of the First Order's charm she knew this, and gave a bright smile when they were introduced to the new shuttles. And as it came to land, Valessia noted that Natasi had gotten here before them all, of course, she had. It would not be like her to get there after everyone, no. Although to see Talbot beside her seemed a little - well, whatever her friend and colleague had been up to was her business.

She only got a moment to cast a glance at the skyline, colonies were only just beginning to get a foothold the Spire of First Light still under construction and in the mountains progress with Fallan'Au although it was more of a speck from here given it was located elsewhere in the mountains. This particular spot where the Center of Diplomacy rested had been where the FIV Wrath had met its untimely end. FIMS had revised its parajumper practices, they lost so many souls but one could scarcely blame them who could have been prepared for such an atrocity. Valessia pushed the thought out of her mind just as the shuttle landed, and was escorted to meet with [member="Natasi Fortan"] and [member="Talbot Vitalis"], along with Ms. Wallace, diplomatic aide [member="Madlyn Sol"], Minister of Security [member="Dante Calgar"], Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander [member="Asharad Graush"] along with the mysterious [member="Samka Derith"] mysterious to Valessia at least rounded out the group.

The building itself was rather imposing and was a turn away from traditional First Order architecture. Large rooms, corridors that led to these rooms with areas for diplomatic talks of all variety could be held here if they so wished. She followed up to the top of the rotunda where the massive conference would greet them all. She stepped inside momentarily if only to mark where she would be sitting. Center table, and sorted herself there and figured out where she would sit and most likely would end up between the two ministers and she'd have to be satisfied with it. She headed for the reception area where she found the Grand Moff. She gave only a small nod of acknowledgement as she placed her hands clasped together behind her back.

RIP Carlyle Rausgeber

"It's all been bloody marvellous..."
Two Hours Earlier
Location: FIV VINDICATOR

Fleet Admiral Rausgeber lamented the stars above Kaeshana. Although many historians would regard the Omega War and the Siege of Dosuun conflicts which would define the First Order's identity, Carlyle disagreed. In the tacticians opinion, the innocence of the First Order and it's people was truly lost here. The fact that such a mission, one of charity and compassion could lead to such hatred and violence. Such loss of life. It was still madness in Carlyle's mind.

He remembered everything so vividly. From the Alliance's arrival in the system, to his request for them to hold their attacks. To the death, of his old friend Captain Ranulph Gudderian. Carlyle bit down on his lower lip as he watched the stars from his station aboard the bridge of his command ship at the time, the Vindicator. It was almost poetic. The weight of thousands of dead weighed heavily on him. Not a day came by where he didn't lament the loss of many capable officers, and brave crewman who remained at their posts to the end.

So many dead. Many who were mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. Although he would assure that they had in fact died heroes, there was something that rang hollow in that statement. Carlyle would often stay awake at night, lamenting where he could have done better. He would constantly replay the battles of Skor and Asmeru back in his head, and would imagine stratagems which could have spared his crew the grisly fate that came with dying in the void.

His thoughts were shattered however, when the Sensor Officer spoke up. "Admiral, the Concordia has arrived sir." Carlyle didn't respond, and looked down at his boots. Perhaps he shouldn't go. Was it necessary for him to go? He looked up, and into the stars. The space battle over Kaeshana began to play in his mind, and a distinct quiver ran through his spine, as he watched the FIV Imperator be destroyed by an energy torpedo barrage all over again. He could feel the guilt as he learned of the FIV Wrath's destruction. The dread, as the Alliance fleet attacked. It all came washing over him at once.

No. He would go. The dead deserved that at least. "Admiral, sir, the Con-" The Sensors Officer was cut off.

"Prepare my shuttle for my imminent departure." Carlyle commanded, before turning heel, and briskly marching from the bridge, "You will hold command until I return Captain Demmings."

The Present

While many saw Kaeshana's Centre of Diplomacy as a monument to the First Order's pact to ensure the forgotten inhabitants would have new life under their overlords, Carlyle saw it as a monstrosity. The destruction of the FIV Wrath was sacred to him. It was sacrilegious to have this building here, there should be a memorial, or a monument to those who'd died on Kaeshana, not some kind of "diplomatic centre". Especially, when said diplomatic centre was playing host to them.

Although the Galactic Alliance had proven themselves time and again, an ineffective fighting force. Carlyle felt a visceral hatred for the Alliance delegation as he entered the room. Although he wouldn't express it publicaly, he was sure if there were any force users among them, they'd probably be able to detect his feeling. For Carlyle, although there were major regrets regarding the war, he still felt that this was no conclusion to it.

Time and time again, Alliance hypocrisy contravening the very foundations of their establishment. The Alliance's unprovoked aggression had struck once, and it would strike again. He was sure of it. Rausgeber knew that the menace of another protracted war would not end with this paltry treaty. It would only end when resurgent-class star destroyers orbited Sullust, and every Jedi, general, politician and Sith from the Alliance hung from the an Avalonian gallows. The Fleet Admiral felt that a final victory was achievable. His belief stemmed from the fact the Alliance had overwhelming lost the battles fought, and showed incompetence of an astounding level while failing to attack the Hoth sector, a concerted effort could destroy the Galactic Alliance.

Seated in the outer ring of tables, Carlyle watched the inner tables carefully as the delegations seated themselves. This would be a historical moment for the First Order. They'd fought the largest Empire in the Galaxy, and won. This treaty, even if it were temporary, would have massive ramifications. That wasn't lost on him at all. In fact, Carlyle welcomed this. If history were to be made here, he would be the one to write it.

Far below them, the majestic architecture of Kaeshana's rebuilt capital city, Saintaissa, sprawled before them. Now accentuated by the occasional sight of newer, Imperial structures dotted among the city skyline, it truly was an impressive display of the First Order's efficiency at public works projects, the speed and scale to which the reconstruction had already progressed. Jaius could only see crosses, stretching along every pedestrian boulevard as the native inhabitants cheerfully went about their daily lives. A ridiculous notion, the crucifixes and their carrion picked burdens would have long ago been taken down by the 'liberators of Kaeshana', as the Imperial government was now stylizing itself, but President Sovv of the Sullustan Council could recall the holostills of captured footage of such war crimes as if he had just seen them for the first time moments ago, and when he did he began to feel sick all over again.

The head of the Galactic Alliance delegation wondered if it was being taught in Eldorai classrooms just how far their benevolent overlords had been willing to go in the pursuit of their greater good and more perfect order. The tired old Sullustan suspected those details were kept out of media sanitized for the average citizen of the First Order's consumption. But then, who could really say? There was so much still they did not and possibly never would understand about this strange new breed of Empire. So far, the discussions had only occurred through intermediaries and from a great distance, the scope of conversation necessarily limited. This would be a face to face meeting, personal, ceremonial, official. There could be no more dangerous place anywhere in the galaxy than for a politician to be where he was now. Jaius was...reasonably sure that the First Order wouldn't have them shot for the duration of their stay. For all their casual violence it was impossible to deny that honor and justice, albeit of a twisted sort, perverted by ruthless deviations in philosophy, was integral to their culture. But what happened today would shape the fate of billions, and so it was hard to shake the anxiety that this was all some sort of elaborate plot.

It had been a mostly silent shuttle ride down so far, the members of the Alliance delegation all forced together in the somewhat confined space of the passenger bay. There was Admiral Hexyra, the Vaemath representative of the Defense Force of course, standing quietly in the corner along with his equally silent aide. In anticipation of, given the context, the First Order's likely all too reasonable precautions against the use of telepathy, the aide was there to translate for the Admiral, who was also proficient in a form of sign. Nearby, and in all likelihood the reason the translator was necessary in the first place, was Jedi Master [member="Taeli Raaf"], representative of the New Jedi Order. Also in the cramped bay, and doing a masterful job of maintaining an air of grace and dignity even in less than ideal circumstances, was the Queen of Naboo, [member="Jamie Pyne"], who would be representing the movement for peace amongst the Governorates of a multitude of Alliance member worlds. Though he had not yet gotten a chance to say so, President Sovv felt the young monarch was particularly noble in willing to risk her own safety once more by returning into what was effectively First Order custody, all on behalf of her people and those of the Alliance.

That left Jaius, who was perhaps biased but felt he held the most difficult job of all. He was the appointed representative of Chief of State Caita Xan, and by extension was responsible for interpreting the will of the Triumvirate Council as best he was able. Soon they would be landing at the designated coordinates provided by the Imperial Navy, and would be out of contact with the ANS North Star, the lone Citadel-class Star Defender the First Order had allowed safe passage into Imperial space, so long as their weapon systems remained powered down at all times. It was the reason the conditions were so cramped for those otherwise accustomed to the more luxurious accommodations afforded dignitaries. Neither side trusted the other enough yet, and while it had been a minor miracle convincing the Imperials to even consider allowing the warship into their sovereignty, Sovv knew there could have been no way to get this little expedition approved by his own people without some show of might, even if it was only symbolic.

If things got really bad down there, the combined firepower the Imperial Navy was capable of swatting the North Star out of the void before they could even attempt a distress call. It was not a particularly comforting thought.

As of recently, A'sharad had been spending plenty of time with the other members of the Moff Council, on occasion even the other commanders in High Command. Deploying soldiers across the entirety of First Order Space. Many just so happened to be present in the systems surrounding the planet of Kaeshana, monitoring the system closely through intermediary deep space surveillance systems that were passively monitoring the surrounding space of Kaeshana.

The last time a diplomatic delegation had been sent by the First Order to the planet of Kaeshana, Alliance supported mercenaries had rained artillery fire on the Stormtroopers in his legion from the very same mountains they were travelling to. How would the delegates from the Galactic Alliance feel, walking on Kaeshana?

I do hope the commanders who though it best to assault Kaeshana are present.

No difference in garb, the Sith Lord was covered in the same suit of armour that he had fought in at the Battle for Kaeshana.

Marching into the meeting room when it was time to, the Sith Lord didn't bother to conceal any presence of the Dark Side. There were no war crimes he had committed, other than the crime of being a Sith, though, he did dare the New Jedi Order to attempt to touch him here. However, it was likely known that the Supreme Commander of the First Order was a practitioner of the Dark Side. Never, had it been hidden. Even when he had fought as a Colonel back at Zarnathea, he had brandished his lightsabre proudly.

Approaching a seat nearby [member="Natasi Fortan"], the Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander of the First Order's armies and navies sat down.

To say that as a nineteen year old queen and Jedi, traveling into First Order controlled territory once again after having been their captive once before, while woefully outgunned by opposing military strength did not have Jamie more than a little on edge would be a lie. It wasn't that Jamie was nervous of herself and her own capabilities, she had spent her entire life in the public eye, as an ambassador, advisor, councilor, and now queen. Tough debates, reconciliations, reparations, and delegations were simply a part of her. She was nervous that none of that mattered, that this was all simply orchestrated in an attempt to further hostilities and bring the Alliance to its knees through deceitful, treacherous means. This was an incredibly dangerous, risky, and potentially fatal decision. One that carried with it a vast majority of life threatening outcomes, or worse. It was also a decision that could have the potential to end a galactic war between two superpowers poised to tear each other apart until little else remained but the memories of those long since deceased. Regardless of the odds, it was the latter point of that decision that inspired the young noblewoman to travel alongside her fellow Alliance delegates to Kaeshana -- The site of the first bloodbath between Alliance and First Order forces.

While she had not been present during the initial fighting, nor had Naboo taken part in the war on either side to date, the news of the battle, and those that followed spread like wildfire across the galactic news networks. Only through a series of unfortunate coincidences, if one believed in such things, dragged her into the mess of war. A series of coincidences tying her to one [member="Castor Ren"], the man that would deliver her captive to Sieger Ren following the invasion of Mustafar. The galaxy sure did seem to have a funny sense of humor. Sure enough upon entry into the Kaeshana system First Order ships were in abundance as expected.

The young woman sat quietly just a short distance away from both [member="Jaius Sovv"] and [member="Taeli Raaf"], azure eyes staring out of one of the few transparisteel viewport at the blackness of space as they descended upon Kaeshana, navigating cautiously in great distance around the perimeter of one of the much larger destroyers belonging to that of the First Order's military. A postural stance no doubt. As the vessel breached the atmosphere no doubt those on the ground would have been alerted to the arrival of an Alliance ship. The modest shuttle would touch down a brief distance from the site of the diplomatic center minutes later. Enduring a short walk would hardly be the worst of her woes for the day after all. On her person she brought only a few items, a HoloPad for the purpose of recording the details of the talks, a com link, and an unassuming ring. Her lightsaber would be notably left behind in the hands of her more than capable handmaiden. The diplomatic center itself was large, towering over the crater it was nestled within as it came into view -- the site of a prior disaster. The architecture was unlike anything found on Naboo, with jagged points and looming features, it bared little resemblance at all to the open, welcoming atmosphere given off by Naboo.

"We'll be setting down in just a moment." A voice poured out over the PA to those awaiting arrival.

Kaeshana... an interesting setting for the peace talks. Leaning back in her chair, looking for all the world like she was asleep with her head back and resting on the foam padding there, Taeli was deep in thought as the Alliance delegation made its way towards its destination. Perhaps the First Order wanted to play up the symbolism of the world, given it was the first time forces from both galactic powers had engaged each other. She had not been present, but had heard the stories of the chaos that had been the battle throughout the sector and the world. Stories that spoke of humanitarian missions... that boasted an entire army and fleet. Stories of stormtroopers and bombers destroying buildings and executing Eldorai they found. Stories of the various atrocities committed by Veles and others. Stories of the zealousness of the GA and their allies in taking the fight to them. Stories of slaughtered scientists, whether by accident or not or even propaganda. It was all so very interesting.

To her, someone who had fought through the One Sith-Republic War, on both sides of the conflict, and then in the endeavors of the GA, it was just more stories that needed preserved. History might be written by the victor, but eventually, the full story came out for all sides. There was no nervousness as she could feel coming from [member="Jamie Pyne"], Queen of Naboo, or the concentrated focus of [member="Jaius Sovv"]. Even the admiral who was with them representing the military was more unnerved than she was. In a way, it was just another day and she had a role to play as the aloof Jedi Master that would be representing the NJO at these talks... as begrudgingly the Grand Marshal had accepted them. She had pointed out that, while she agreed the fight needed to continue, they needed time to train and build up the Jedi again.

With a pretend yawn and stretch as their pilot spoke over the PA system, she had to wonder just how the talks would go... and how they might slip into her plans. Peace between enemies did not mean the fighting would end, and in all likelihood, whatever treaty that would get hashed out here would become a rallying cry for the far more zealous and radical elements within the GA or the First Order.

"You look absolutely gorgeous, dear. A uniform suits you."

The compliment was a genuine one, [member="Ara Ren"] did indeed look beautiful but, as was always the case these days, an ulterior motive lay behind the more senior Ren's motives.

Having recently overseen the woman's return to the First Order, Samka's concerns about her were proven unfounded. Her convictions had never wavered and Ara had indeed remained a loyal and dedicated member of their organisation, something increasingly desirable these days. The woman had... flaws but they could be amended in due time. Her capabilities and potential outweighed everything else so Samka had decided to tie the two of them closer. From now on, the only one Ara could turn to would be Sam. She would do her best to provide the woman a source of trust, kindness or... whatever other sentimental nonsense people craved. In return, she'd forge a worthy student. Starting tonight, it was time to let Ara in.

The pair were dressed in dark uniforms akin to those worn by officers in the First Order's military, something more formal for the occasion than the cloaks and robes typically worn by their Order but neither woman was yet wearing the helmet to disguise their faces from friend and foe alike.

Samka gave the older woman a smile as warm as she could manage as she approached her fellow Ren, stopping just a few inches apart.

"Remember, we're not here to set terms and such, leave most of the diplomacy to the diplomats, but we're here to observe and assert Ren authority if need be," Samka said. "If anything seems amiss, don't hesitate to tell me, trust your instincts."

For the briefest of moments as Samka's crimson eyes locked with Ara's green, she had a desire to tell the Knight something. About how bittersweet it was to return to the planet that started it all, to return to her first open warzone, that the site of the talks would be taking place at the exact spot she'd pulled the injured from the wreckage of their Star Destroyer. The urge to lay her emotions bare vanished as quickly as it rose up, if there was anything to be learned from recent events, it was that she had been correct all along; attachment was weakness and emotion should be contained within.

So instead of an honest admission, the young Ren gave a sly smile and spoke in a low whisper, the tone was seductive but it called not to the desires of the flesh but the thirst for power, "I've been so very impressed with you, I'm letting you into the inner circle. Keep going and I'll reward you with further, you could hardly conceive of," Sam's posture changed suddenly and voice rose back to it's normal tone, "Now then, we'll be landing shortly, don't forget your mask. The last thing we need is some Alliance journalist taking pictures."

The present

Samka Derith's form was small, lithe, unassuming. Standing at just a little over 5 foot, the Ren wasn't physically imposing but this was a rare instance where she let the Dark Side flow from her unimpaired, the power of which would be more than enough to make up for other shortcomings. It oozed a cold, sinister aura, the kind which sent a shiver down men's spines but nobody could place why. Her strength in the Dark Side didn't feel like one of anger but a more subtle chill.

She sat on the far end of the First Order's negotiation team, separate from the politicians and the military. This was their day to parade their victory and set their terms. The Order of Ren would do what it always did, watch from the sides and reshape events as necessary.

A grimace crossed the Moff's features as he cracked his neck. Here they were. Kaeshana. An amused smirk tugged at his lips as his eyes darted across the pages before him. He'd read the reports a million times. It had taken some severe measures to process and compile the raw data logged at not only the battles of Hoth and Bespin, but also back to where the war began - or at least where the war visibly manifested itself on the planet of Kaeshana. Files had been archived and left to rest, the FOSB more pre-occupied with other endeavors at the time of the conflict and by the time the data had begun processing they had been slammed again with a counterattack at Hoth and Bespin. Now however, the data had been processed, reports filed, investigations launched. It had been a tedious process but as one of his first acts as the Minister of Security he had seen it through.

Dante was no stranger to war, no new witness to death, no virgin to the chaos that was the battlefield and yet here upon the surface of Kaeshana he felt a measure of apprehension. Worried wasn't exactly the right word. So far they had been the first to arrive - as was by design. With close ties to the FOSB, the Minister of Security knew things both about the facility itself and a whole slew of operational data that many wouldn't be privy to, namely a closed communication channel with the elements of the Bureau tasked with monitoring the incoming delegation. He'd received the page five minutes ago that an Alliance vessel had been granted clearance and escort towards the planet and even now he continued to get updates as to the the situation. With a sigh he replaced the heavy binder back on the surface of the table.

Moff Calgar was clad in his typical attire, a militaristic uniform bearing the his rank and a device indicating his status as Minister of Security. It was a severe look, especially for those who were officially designated outside of the military chain of command - but it served its purpose. A commanding presence was one of the foundations of authority, those too weak to demonstrate their power through subtle means often found themselves at a disadvantage - there was a reason the Moff had earned himself the nickname of Phobos among his colleagues.

With a quiet sigh the man stood, his hawkish eyes scanning the interior of the building. It would do. He along with the others would be seated at the Grand Moff's side, some of the less prestigious of the Moff Council seated just behind them around the outer ring. Those seated there consisted of several military commanders, civilian appointees and those deemed most crucial to the negotiation efforts. Those who didn't quite make the cut or were of questionable importance to the effort were allowed oversight via the observation area - rows of almost theater like seating arranged from the front to the back. Dante caught the Grand Moff's slim figure in the corner of his eye as she prepared for the arrival of the Alliance delegation. He too would be there to greet them.

Gently pushing the chair in before smoothing the soft creases in his uniform, Dante stepped towards where the Grand Moff stood. Coming up behind to her left, he leaned in carefully and gently rest his hand on the woman's arm before speaking quietly in her ear.

"The Alliance delegation has entered orbit. They should be landing soon your Excellency."
Though perhaps said facetiously at times, this time the Moff sounded genuine. Even he knew that something as large as this required a unified effort. The treaty wasn't something they needed, but it was something they wanted - and by they he knew that the Supreme Leader was the motivation. On one hand, he found it strange that the man had forgone his own presence and instead left the negotiations to the Grand Moff but he knew there had to be a purpose. Whether it was to test her or test him he knew not, but he would see it through. Despite his own misgivings regarding Natasi, he knew how to be a team player when the need arose.

Carefully he cast a quick glance towards the Supreme Commander, acknowledging the man with a nod. So far his interactions with the man had been limited, but if this treatise were to go through, he would no doubt be getting to know him much better over the next few months. Things were already in motion but if things went according to plan, he would require allies among the Moff Council and the Supreme Commander seemed like a good place to start.

Aside from that, there was Valessia Creed. He knew little about the woman, though he knew she wouldn't be here if the Grand Moff didn't trust her, or at very least see her merit. The two seemed close from what little was contained in the personnel files he had access to. One to keep his eye on for certain. Finally came the youngest - no doubt a member of Sieger's own. There was an aura around her, one even Dante had trouble pinning down. As it was with any of the Supreme Leader's cadre, one rarely knew exactly what to think, how to feel, or even how to act around them. Clearly she was but a girl in comparison to the others gathered here, but perhaps that's what put him most on edge. The fact she had been chosen over those more senior than she. Perhaps age wasn't everything - it was more than just rumor that the Supreme Leader valued merit above all else. Perhaps the girl was a clear representation of that.

How exactly each would affect the soon to follow discussion was yet in limbo - he would have to wait patiently and see how things played out.

The corners of her mouth twitched up into an appreciative smile at the compliment, hands smoothing over the buttons and lapels of the unfamiliar dress uniform of the Ren. The dark colors suited her purpose, although the stiff fabric felt foreign and uncomfortable compared to the heavy weight of a cloak settled on her shoulders. The Knight’s fingers twitched as they came to rest on the empty air where her saber would normally lay against her hip, the cool metal and obsidian settled in a locked box and away from her person for the duration of the talks.

Instead of focusing on the disappointment of leaving her beloved blade behind, she turned her gaze to the woman who approached, stopping just short of touching. The lavender haired teen led the mysterious group of Force Users known only as the Knights of Ren despite her age and size, her loyalty and capability allowing her to quickly ascend to the top of the ranks. Ara ducked her head in a slight bow, a motion of acknowledgment and acceptance as their role in the coming negotiations was laid bare.

”As you say, Master Derith.”

A moment of silence hung between them and she raised her eyes to meet Samka’s gaze, thoughts swirling behind their irises. Ara stood, letting the moment pass without pressure, a slight raising of the eyebrows the only indication of her curiosity, but not giving voice to the questions as their ship approached the planet of Kaeshana. Instead of the emotions bubbling beneath, a promise of more power came, a commendation and reward dangled in front of the Knight who craved both. Desire rose in the depths of her emerald gaze, her own smile mimicking Sam’s as she ducked her head again, her own purring tone echoing forth in answer.

”You honor me.”

Her voice dripped with sincerity, respect, and even trust. It was an emotion she afforded very few, her gut swirling with recent betrayals and memories of broken trust that formed scars and doubts within. The Ren had proven themselves different. They had come for her. The least she owed to their order was her dedication and loyalty.

So much had changed since the last time the pair had stood so close, the last on the roof of a building in Coruscant the day Ara had been brought into the Ren. Another compliment, another promise of power, that first meeting felt like a lifetime before, although barely a year had passed. Giving the Order her power, blade, and even her life, she’d fought to further their cause, a path that had started simply in the craving of power and now was something much more.

A simple nod as she settled the mask onto her face, features and expressions hidden from those who would be watching and judging.

The Present

Silently, Ara followed [member="Samka Derith"] into the conference room, staying a few steps behind and off to the side of the Master in difference to her rank. Where Sam was all ice and chill, Ara was warmth, her aura bleeding with anger, pride, and the few remaining threads of anxiety from their travels. The few assembled in the room were a mixture of those known and unknown, familiar forms of [member="Asharad Graush"] , the Supreme Commander, and [member="Dante Calgar"] , Minister of Security, beside those she recognized from ledgers and ceremonies, but lacked personal knowledge of.

Nodding once in acknowledgement and greeting, the Knight moved to the circular outer table, knowing her role was secondary, an observer here on the behest of Master Derith. Settling into a chair directly behind the younger woman, she waited, a silent sentinel to the proceedings ahead.

Kaeshana. It was the place where the war between the First Order and Galactic Alliance had started. It was the appropriate place to end it. Though to be honest, it wasn't exactly the truth. Eriadu had been ground zero for the birth of hostilities between the two factions, and Madlyn had been there when the Alliance took her homeworld.

But that was neither here nor there, these peace treaty talks were to curtail the recent warring actions. Ultimately, the First Order's goal was to bring peace and order to this part of the galaxy, and peace was the preferred way over war to find order, but the Imperials were ready to do what they must for the good of their citizens. Hopefully today, the Galactic Alliance would concede this point and agree to the terms set forth. Only time would tell though if the other side would do so with full intent.

After the shuttle from the FIV Concordia landed outside the Center for Diplomacy built on the crash site of the downed FIV Wrath, Counsellor Madlyn Sol deplaned with the rest of the First Order's Diplomatic Corps' principles. This was her first time on the hallowed ground. She had not been present for the battle that ravaged this planet previously and killed so many innocents that the First Order was trying to aid. The diplomatic aide was on medical leave at the time on Riflor recovering from injuries received when the Ssi-ruuk attacked Dosuun. This was a most humbling experience for the Eriaduan being a part of the special delegation having not shed personal blood, sweat, and/or tears as the others from the First Order here today had.

Walking into the grand conference room, the green-eyed redhead dressed professionally in a well-fitted black suit jacket with matching pencil skirt took a moment to appreciate the calm before the storm that would be the peace treaty negotiations no doubt, then the diplomatic aide slid into the seat next to Admiral [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] at the circular outer rim table. Madlyn had met him briefly during the rather interesting dinner held at the Grand Vizer's estate on Taloraan, which was the conclusion of the negotiations with that government when the First Order took the planet and the territory surrounding the Expansion Region world under its wing.

"Admiral," Mads nodded respectfully with a small smile gracing her features, then she reached into her black leather briefcase taking out an encrypted datapad with an inked stylus and legal notepad to follow before placing the briefcase down at her heeled feet. The First Order's counsellor was ready for the meeting to begin.

This was a moment in time that Claire would not forget. That she had a tiny hand in helping these two warring factions to come to the table and discuss peace. It was a warm feeling inside and yet she was still filled with apprehension. She knew her part was done and that the weight of any decisions made would fall on those in the room. The representatives and delegates of The Galactic Alliance and the First Order.

Sitting away from the table here as an observer Claire watched the room begin to fill. She leaned back in her chair trying to let the stress of it all float away. It was being harsh though it wanted to hang on. She recognized only a few in the room which was not unusual she had only met a few they gathered.

It was meetings like this that gave Claire hope. Individuals ready to come to the table to help their people look to the future. Peace would assure many of them that would be a future. They can have families without concern that a father or mother wasn't coming home. There would be no more letters to families telling them their loved one was gone. There were those that if they knew Claire's thoughts would scoff and remark that war was a necessary evil.

Maybe. But it would be nice to have peace no matter how long it lasted.

Claire prayed that this went well.

"I've heard your demands, Concordia, now you hear mine. You will stand down all military operations in the Kaeshana system, and allow the sovereignty of this planet to be decided by the Eldorai people, not your interpretation of the allowances provided for by intergalactic law. Furthermore, you will allow for the safe passage of New Jedi Order inspectors to conduct a thorough search of the surface for suspected Dark Side cultist activity. Until these conditions have been met, the Galactic Alliance Defense Force will continue to safeguard its personnel and assets within this system by whatever means necessary."

Center for Diplomacy
Imperial Occupied Kaeshana
Outer Rim

Whatever means necessary...

That day continued to haunt him, but in the days leading up to this occasion those words in particular had replayed in the President's mind over and over again.

It had been a surprise, really. Losing at Kaeshana. It was true, Strategic Intelligence Service data on the now aggressively expanding former hermit kingdom was not as complete as they would have liked before the Triumvirate Council had made the decision to intervene, particularly concerning their complete military disposal. But, perhaps overconfident in the wake of their victories over both the One Sith regime and the still quite dangerous pieces of their fallen empire, the Alliance had simply not anticipated just how effective the Imperial Navy and Armed Forces would prove in challenging what had been up until that point the most highly regarded fighting force the galaxy had seen in the GADF.

As they were escorted from the nearby landing pad towards the imposing looking Center for Diplomacy, Jaius was afforded only a few brief glimpsed of the consequences of their failure. Not only in terms of damage done and lives lost, but in promises they had made. Eldorai politics were complicated, and the older Sullustan didn't pretend to understand the nuances of any of it, but so far he had picked up that the relationship between the diaspora who had evacuated before the natural disaster that had ravaged their world, and those who had remained, was...well, he wasn't sure what it was exactly. A mess, was the first phrase that sprang to mind. But the end result was that the Alliance recognized sovereign of the Eldorai diaspora, the Star Queen, was not among those who approved of the peace. They were setting foot on Kaeshana to discuss terms, in fact, over her explicit objections, which would likely strain relations even further.

Usually more prone to emotive outbursts and expressive conversation, Jaius maintained as solemn and statesmanlike expression and posture as possible throughout the entire walk. From the moment they had landed, the Sullustan was forced to assume that they were being monitored. He did not want anything taken out of context, to give the First Order any opportunity to make a fool out of him or his nation. Perhaps it was a xenophobic notion, that they would even bother in the attempt to shame a public official like the head of the Sullustan Council, for eventually they were led into a large sort of reception area, beyond which there was a massive conference room with a rotunda like set up. The entire place was filled with high ranking Imperial officials, and that was when President Sovv realized that this was actually happening. They were actually standing in the same room without trying to kill each other.

Well, that's a start.

Some faces he knew, from witnessed interactions or holorecordings like Grand Moff Fortan, Admiral Rausgeber, and Supreme Commander Graush. Others, he recognized from holostills such as Foreign Minister Creed and Minister of Security Calgar. There were others too, that he did not recognize. Lesser officials, political aides, and...and then there were the Ren. The introductions had not yet been given, and though they were masked, the President did not need Master Raaf to explain who they were, even if their specific identities remained a mystery. There could be no other explanation for their presence here, and although Jaius would have preferred if that could have been avoided, he was not blind to reality and knew that there could be no peace without the approval of the Order and their Supreme Leader.

And there was the rub, for in many ways the Alliance was an institution founded on the overthrow of a massive Darkside cult. Many of its citizens believed them to be fundamentally tyrannical in nature, and the practice of Darkside teachings was a federal offense often punished by deportation. Allowances had been made before, such as with the Jensaarai and then Firemane, but in the estimations of the New Jedi Order, the Ren were far too reckless in their use of the Dark. And then, of course, there was Supreme Commander Graush, who had made no secret his particular religious beliefs. Jaius understood that they were not exactly dealing from a position of strength, and as the Alliance had shifted from religious crusade to defense compact, it had been forced at times to accept practical reality over ideology. But still, it would be an uphill struggle in terms of hammering out the conditions of a lasting truce, to say the least.

RIP Carlyle Rausgeber

"It's all been bloody marvellous..."
The Fleet Admiral lifted his head from his datapad as the diplomat arrived. He nodded his head in acknowledgment, he had purloined the guest list as apart of the briefing he had received. “Counsellor Sol.” The officer said, in a pleasant tone, “A pleasure to see you.” He waited for the diplomat to sit before he proceeded any further in conversation.

I take it you were involved in the negotiations for this treaty?” He asked, leaning back in his chair. He revealed his datapad to her, inadvertently of course. Carlyle had brought his own pad to document the moment. The officer had decided that if he was to be apart of history, the onus was on him to document this moment. Of he lived long enough to see a memoir published, this chapter would probably recieve top billing. He was not attired in his usual ostentatious white uniform with cape, and had instead, conservatively attired himself in an officers tunic, with the greatcoat. The only colour came from his rank plaque and the medals he wore on his lapel.

If so, must congratulate you for getting the Alliance to the table.” He admitted, it was something of a lie. While he most certainly held diplomats to a high regard, on this matter he felt that their meddling had lost the First Order the chance to end the Alliance fully. That they, being the diplomatic service, had only put a stop gap measure in what the army would finally have to do. Carlyle considered himself a diplomat. One who was only used when the wordsmiths and deal makers had failed.

I must imagine, particularly after their dreadful performance in the Anoat Sector,” He pursed his lips into a smile, “That they must have been clambering for a ceasefire.” He stretched his fingers, cracking them. “I must ask however,” He began, “What are your personal opinions to us being here?” He asked, he was of course lathering her with questions. This one would of course be personal, “Do you think that our actions here, our discussions would at all see an end to the Galactic Alliances aggression?

There was a murmur around as the Alliance's delegation finally arrived. Carlyle straightened his back, and his eyes narrowed. He recognised Sovv immediately. Weaselly little Sullustian bastard. A career politician from what he'd read from what Dispatch and the dossier the FOSB had published. Also a war criminal in Carlyle's eyes. He'd been present during Kaeshana, and hadn't stopped the bloodshed. Spite, and anger radiated through his veins. Far from the melancholy he felt hours ago aboard the Vindicator. Visceral hatred now burned where sorrow and lamentation once stood.

Rather morbidly ironic to build a diplomatic center at the heart of such a disaster. The blonde bit the inside of her lip as the small group disembarked from their shuttle. Her hands fell clasped just below the waist, and though her head kept forward, her soft azure eyes danced about, taking in what she could of their surroundings and the building as they stepped foot inside to the reception and lobby area. If the outside of the building appeared in stark contrast to that of Naboo's architecture, the interior did nothing to change that appearance either. Ornate as it was, it still felt overbearing and ever watching, as if eyes were on them from every angle, waiting for any opportunity. It wasn't until they were ushered into the large conference room that Jamie saw for the first time the number of attendees present on behalf of the First Order. Present were political figureheads, military officers, and even Ren. Carefully the blonde shifted her focus from each person to the next, and though a number of those present were unrecognizable in their facial features, Jamie was certain that Castor was not present currently. Their extensive time together had been enough that even behind a mask, she would now recognize the man for who he was. Of those present, Jamie was intimately familiar with none of them, though she had been aware of some of those present, as to their positions and role, most notably Grand Moff Fortan and Admiral Rausgeber, as they were most frequently tied to Alliance intelligence that she had been briefed on.

The admiral, she noted upon eye contact, appeared notably perturbed, practically writhing with anger. Why she didn't quite know, but it was nearly enough to raise the temperature in the room solely based on the steam emanating from his person. Notably a bad sign. The woman stepped beside Sovv, lowering her head with respect to those standing opposite she. For a moment she lingered before righting herself once more. "Respected leaders, honored dignitaries, and decorated officers, I thank you for offering myself, and those beside me, the hospitality of your company today. I'll leave the privilege of individual introductions to those who speak after. Many faces here are admittedly unfamiliar to me, and I apologize in advance for my ignorance. For those equally confused by my presence, I am Jamie Pyne, elected queen of Naboo." Her tone was gentle, though her accent apparent. She made no emphasis of her role on her own planet, though stated it for the record. Cerulean irises danced from one member to the next as she spoke. "This is not an easy task, and I extend my sincere appreciation for everyone's cooperation in this difficult time. War is a costly endeavor. Not in credits, not in resources, not in fleets or weapons. It is a costly endeavor each and every time a single loss is felt by a family being served the notice of their son or daughter's sacrifice. One that in the end bears no fruit or closure. The time for peace was yesterday. It's today. It's tomorrow. There must be a means to end this war before we sacrifice everything we hold dear for the sake of spite and revenge. Thank you."

With her opening statement made, the blonde from Naboo took her seat at the table and waited.

Dante's cool blue eyes carefully scanned the room from right to left, a smug smirk of satisfaction gracing his features as he caught sight of the distinct visage of the Sullastan. *Jaius Sovv.* Calgar had done his homework, carefully memorizing the faces of those Alliance representative poised to make an appearance during the summit as he had so many thousands of times before - the main difference is that this time they weren't targets. At least not in the conventional sense. Silently he watched the Alliance representatives filter in, but as they appeared to make their way towards the front of the elongated chamber Dante made a gamble. Eyes darted towards the Grand Moff before his foot moved, stepping forward and almost in front of the woman.

"President Sovv!" Dante's voice rose above the quiet din of conversations taking place prior to the convening of the summit. "Welcome to the surface of Kaeshana."
Taking another step he could feel the gaze of Natasi Fortan boring into him however he maintained, a forced smile as he extended a hand to the Sullustan. The Moff had a firm grip, his eyes meeting the dark pools of the Sullustan as if looking not at him but into him. A trick of the light, a projected presence, perhaps nothing all. *Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.[1]*

"I'm Moff Calgar. Minister of Security." The uniformed man said, retracting his hand and motioning towards his colleagues. "I'm told you've already spoken with Grand Moff Fortan - above this very planet if I'm not mistaken."
*How odd it must feel.* thought Calgar. *To be back here again, without an armada behind you.* They felt uncomfortable no doubt. The location of the summit had been chosen intentionally. Not only had the First Order touted this as the first spark of the war but also as a fitting place for its temporary delay. For that was what it was, merely a delay - at least that's how Dante saw it. Perhaps there was a genuine desire for peace, but unlike most of the others peace or war held no preference in his mind. Politicians first, they lacked the drive to do what was necessary - what would see this war ended. Permanently. He couldn't hold it against them however, for regardless of how he felt about it the Supreme Leader had made his will known. With the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium knocking on their doorstep once again, Moff Calgar could at least concede that they had other things to worry about.

Three times they had beaten back the Alliance, not only in their own assaults but managing to stop a counter attack dead in its tracks. *The Anoat Sector.* Dante himself hadn't been present at the time, but the reports had been detailed and numerous - and the Minister of Security had read a large percentage of them personally. From the heightened security around the planet to the strict procedures surrounding the Alliance delegation's arrival, they were certainly not negotiating from a position of power. With a gesture towards the seating, he raised an eyebrow.

A young woman had stepped forward, her appearance striking in part due to the makeup she wore. It identified her clearly to the Minister of Security before she'd even begun to speak, and as she did - he nodded his head in response to the woman's own gesture, eyes narrowing. As she spoke, the woman's words confirmed her identity. He was however intrigued that the Queen herself would attend such an event - to date Naboo had been separated from the war, isolated near entirely if Calgar had read reports correctly. Assuming a neutral expression, the Minister of Security watched her as she spoke to the few gathered near the center, as she touched on the cost of war, he chuckled inwardly. *No cost, no reward.* he thought. Watching her as she stepped past them and headed towards the seats around the central table, he too motioned towards his colleagues.

"Shall we?"
As they would make their way towards the table, Moff Calgar would be among the first to stand beside it of the First Order delegation. He used the moment to grasp the back of the Grand Moff's chair, sliding it outwards and offering the seat to the woman, a sly grin creeping at the corner of his lips.

"Your Excellency."
After adjusting the seat he took his own, eyes scanning each and every one of the representatives opposite the table. An uncomfortable silence began to fall across the room, officers finding their places, observers taking their seats. Carefully his eyes tracked to the exits, towards the corners of the room, and then back across the table. All seemed in order, everyone where they should be. Truthfully he was surprised that everything had gone without a hitch to this point. It had been a long time since any First Order and Alliance members hadn't been looking at each other down the barrel of a blaster or in the targeting reticle of a fighter craft.

Valessia entered the room once more just in time to see Admiral [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] take a seat, Counsellor [member="Madlyn Sol"] sat herself down within ear shot of him. She followed Grand Moff [member="Natasi Fortan"] toward the centre table where the meeting looked to begin. President [member="Jaius Sovv"] caught her eye for a moment, but just for a moment as her attention switched to [member="Taeli Raaf"] and then the young and beautiful Queen of Naboo. [member="Jamie Pyne"] spoke, she spoke of how difficult this was and that she was grateful for their hospitality, and Valessia noted her body language as spoke. Studied would be a better word for what the Brentaalan was doing, and so she took a deep breath and exhaled as [member="Dante"] Calgar moved to help Natasi to her chair. She took the opportunity to place a hand behind her chair at the end.

A quiet inward smile had been kept in check, Dante was bold enough to speak in such manners. Valessia was not, "thank you, your majesty." She acknowledged Queen Pyne's address to the delegation. "I am Foreign Minister Valessia Creed," cinnamon brown orbs took in the men and women around them, she kept her tone polite, professional. Ever the modest Brentaalan, her accent spoke of her core-world upbringing. "We welcome the Galactic Alliance Delegation here to the surface of Kaeshana, and no, no this is not an easy task but I agree. It is one that is necessary. Perhaps not for our own sake, but for future generations." No doubt, both nations could continue the war but to what end? An ever growing stalemate that would rage until both sides were bled out completely. That was not a future for anyone, "too many sons and daughters of both the Galactic Alliance and the First Order have died. For far too long have we stayed up and watched the casualty lists grow. It is the hope of this delegation that we may bring an end to the war, today. Thank you."

On the surface at least, she need not look to the Minister of Security for she knew good and well that these talks, for whatever good they would do. Would only mean that the war would go on in the shadows, haunting them until such a time that it too would end.Her expression remained guarded, just as her thoughts lingered to her husband and the toll that the war had taken on him. The battle reports, the skirmish updates - even walking into Natasi's office to see her standing there with her arms folded. Exhausted as she watched the names scroll across her monitor, and each time it was Sioux Chambers that stuck out. The very name that now stood at the top of the memorial, the one not too far from this very centre. Kaeshana would forever be etched in their minds, it had taught both nations lessons some harder learned than others, she gathered.

There they were, the four of them facing the Galactic Alliance's own, the Grand Moff, the Minister of Security, herself and the dual roled, Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander [member="Asharad Graush"]. Behind them were distinguished members of their military, government and other sects. She was curious just as well as any here, on just how well or how terribly this would all go. Valessia felt her own force concealing trinket against her skin, it felt more out of place now and she wondered if she would need to be rid of it anytime soon. All the while she maintained her attention to those across from her.

'Well they certainly don't skimp on presentation,' was her thought as they were led through an imposing building, clearly designed to show the power and prestige of the First Order. The room where the treaty would be hammered out was just as grand as expected, with everything looking just so for the occasion. Ranks of officers and officials, with the most important beings at the center of the tables. She could feel a radiating hatred rolling off one admiral among those assembled, and she had to admit some curiosity as it felt more... personal than dislike of the GA in general. As per role in all this, she kept a serene calm expression on her face, giving nothing away as she scanned those assembled. Purple eyes swept slowly over towards where a small younger woman was sitting, exuding the dark side of the Force much like the First Order's Supreme Commander [member="Asharad Graush"] was doing, but in a cold aura.

Not saying a word as [member="Jamie Pyne"] spoke and pleasantries were exchanged, Taeli made her way to the chair directly across from the young girl, hands resting on the back of it. A small smile came across her lips as she appraised [member="Samka Derith"], taking the seat once it was appropriate to do so. She wouldn't speak yet, as that wasn't her role in all this. Jamie and [member="Jaius Sovv"] were the political representatives after all, she was merely here to be the NJO's representative and chime in when appropriate. No, she essentially was here to act as a counter voice against the Ren Master sitting across from her, hence one reason why she chose the seat she did. Another important one was it sent a message that she wasn't intimidated by the girl's aura of the dark side... and it also gave her a easy opportunity to look past the young Master of Ren to another seated directly behind her.

The smile on her lips grew bigger, as she inclined her head politely towards where [member="Ara Ren"] sat. In a way, she was glad the girl had survived the stabbing her compatriot, the one who later immolated himself and lost several limbs.

"I see she recovered nicely from Bespin," she whispered across the table to her lavender haired counterpart.

Behind the mask was no smug smile, no welcoming expression and warm eyes. Behind the mask, there was no mask.

Ara surveyed the room and its inhabitants with cool eyes, the small movements as her gaze switched between figures and focused long enough to take in the details of each of the Alliance’s chosen negotiators, many unknown to the Knight until this moment. As each noticed the Ren in attendance in turn, a small, predatory smile quirked up behind the metal confines of her mask, invisible to all others, an expression meant for herself alone.

The death and destruction wrought by the war meant little to her, the lives lost of little consequence. Such was the cost of power and ambition, sacrifices must be made. A thread of anger burned in her gut as she watched and waited, each member of the opposition’s delegation settling into their chosen place, the long table quickly filling with diplomatic figures. She cared little for peace, finding bloodshed and battle exhilarating and tantalizing, but recognizing that peace was what the Supreme Leader wanted, a thus, she would sit silently, in support. Emerald orbs paused to light on the newest member of the Galactic Alliance’s officials to arrive, the girl’s beauty drawing her attention, the Force Aura emanating from the blonde holding it there.

Eyes narrowed as she spoke, a name and title given to fit the face, one [member="Jamie Pyne"], elected Queen of Naboo. An opening statement made, the words mirroring and yet drastically differing from those the knight had been nurturing bringing a hint of amusement to the surface. As the Queen took her place, her gaze shifted slightly to that of Moff [member="Dante Calgar"] intercepting and welcoming President Sovv instead of the Grand Moff herself. Canting her head to the side, Ara watched in curiosity at the short-lived moment, noting each subtle reaction and slight. He has ambition, she noted silently as he offered [member="Natasi Fortan"] a seat and took his own, and guts. A quiet chuckle escaped her, amused and impressed despite herself.

The last member of the delegation sat directly across the Master of Ren, [member="Taeli Raaf"]‘s gaze locking with Ara’s briefly as she looked past the young master momentarily. A sly smile raised the corners of her lips, the knight raising her chin slightly in acknowledgement. It seemed fate deemed the pair destined to meet on multiple fields of battle, and not just those of the blade and blaster.

Her…

Tapping into the Force briefly, Ara whispered into [member="Samka Derith"]‘s mind as the so-called Jedi did the same, her words too quiet for the Knight to hear, but their subject fairly easy to guess.

Reports had been garnered after her return to First Order space, reports of a suspected traitor hiding within the ranks of the Jedi. Conversations had with a former ally and friend, combined with interactions on Mustafar and Bespin that didn’t quite add up in the Knight’s mind all documented and reported in their fullest to the Master. And now, they had a face, and hopefully soon a name, to go with her suspicions. In time, the truth would come to light.

Jaius Sovv

Blessed girl, the old man thought to himself as the young sovereign from Naboo took the lead in making their introductions. Despite his past reputation for a non-violent ideology, Jaius had publicly addressed the First Order twice in his career as President of the Council. The first, ordering their Grand Moff to stand down their military forces during the opening moments of the Battle of Kaeshana, and a second time declaring war on behalf of the Triumvirate Council in a statement issued from Sullust Base. Despite his role since in bringing both sides together, for him to speak first would perhaps not make the best first impression.

Diminutive, and well past his prime, President Sovv relied on the use of a repulsor powered hovercane to maintain independent mobility. It was no old war wound, no hero's tale, he was just getting old. Of all their personal effects to meet with the final approval of Imperial security and customs, even the holopads had been less scrutinized on both the landing pad and the way into the building than the walking stick. If Jaius hadn't been well documented on Alliance news holos as having required the use of it for the past five years, the Sullustan doubted the First Order Security Bureau would have allowed him to carry it at all. It would have been a pretty ingenious way to conceal an assassin's weapon, but the thought of himself as some sort of trigger man had almost made the career diplomat and politician laugh despite the gravity of this event.

"President Sovv!" so impaired, Jaius had been employing considerable concentration on the task of making it the several meters across the hall between his location and the Grand Moff's, when the voice caused him to pause suddenly and crane his head upwards, "Welcome to the surface of Kaeshana."

Standing only about 1.6 meters tall, the human standing before him in a Moff's uniform had him beat by a full twenty centimeters, and so Jaius had to reach up a little to return the proffered handshake. Calgar, up until now the man had only been a holostill and a name. What little Alliance intelligence understood of his position as Security Minister suggested that he was perhaps the single most dangerous man in this room, and that included both the Supreme Commander and these Knights of Ren. Not in terms of physical prowess, although all their bureaucrats were soldiers at least one some level. Moff Calgar's power lie in his access to information, information the SIS had still only scraped the surface of.

"Am I?" Sovv's brow furrowed in confusion, but only momentarily. Privately, he wondered what exactly this was. A personal gambit, some sort of power play within the First Order's internal hierarchy? Or a sanctioned attempt to deflect him from the orbit of the Grand Moff? The Sullustan didn't have enough information to determine the provincial politics at play, and probably wouldn't know what conclusions to draw even if he did. He paused politely in front of the Imperial official, smiling expectantly, "That is good to hear."

"I am Moff Calgar. Minister of Security."

"Ah, of course," Jaius nodded, masterfully feigning ignorance as a matter of decorum. It was no secret to either side that they were compiling lists of each others' leadership hierarchy, no one would know that better than the Moff, but at the very least Sovv could do the man the courtesy of a formal introduction.

"I'm told you've already spoken with Grand Moff Fortan - above this very planet if I'm not mistaken," the Moff continued as he motioned towards his superior, and while his tone remained pleasant a glint in the human's eyes gave the Alliance ambassador the uncomfortable impression that some sort of point had already been scored in the mere mention of their defeat on this world. The defeat that had reignited hostilities between the two nations that had been smoldering since Eriadu.

"I can only hope that our conversation on this day is a far more productive one," Sovv's tone remained pleasant as well, while he took the Moff's cue to not simply break eye contact and acknowledge the Grand Moff's presence, but take a quick visual read of the room.

Calgar was doing much better than most, but that was perhaps doing the Minister a disservice in setting so low a bar. There were some in the First Order delegation, particularly among the representatives of the Imperial military hierarchy, who made no attempt to hide their open disdain and anger towards the Alliance officials. Jaius could not blame him, a politician, a Jedi, a young royal and an alien Admiral of the enemy's fleet. It was easy for those with the least to lose in any conflict to feel self righteous in their cause, and those who so embraced warfare and casual violence would in the end be far more prone to see it as a solution to every problem. On some level, it was the same sort of hubris that had led the Alliance to the point they were today, President Sovv was forced to admit to himself.

As Jaius accepted the Security Minister's offer to walk together towards his appointed seating at the conference table, he kept his attention partially on the First Order military reps out of the corner of his eye. The old man not not failed to notice the Admiral fade from Queen Pyne's side for the first time since they had landed to approach his Imperial counterpart.

"Admiral Rausgeber," a slightly nervous looking young human attache wearing the uniform of the Defense Fleet called out as the two approached him. The young man motioned in practiced, deft manner to the Vaemath beside him, "I am Admiral Xylon Hexyra of the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet."

The human glanced up at the Admiral who, standing at a towering 2.7 meters in height, had to stoop somewhat to be polite. The Vaemath's fingers moved in an elaborate pattern, and the attache responded briefly in kind before turning once more to speak to Carlyle.

"It is a...warrior's honor to meet such a hero of the Empire," the aide glanced over as Hexyra's fingers continued, "Sadly I did not have the..." the human glanced over to confirm, "...pleasure of meeting you on the field of battle as foes, but we fought once as allies in the glorious campaign at Castameer."
