Discussion What’s Next For This Character

This character has been around a long time. I first made her in 2007. Since then she’s existed on tons of boards with varied timelines and writers. She reached the point where she is a fun character to play but she needs some kind of legacy or next chapter.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do is give her a family. This doesn’t have to be children. I could give her more siblings or nieces or nephews or cousins even. The point is I’ve always felt like Star Wars is a family legacy type story and I would like to include her into that theme.

The issue I’m having is I set her history during the Clone Wars because I think that’s where most of the boards she got her start were from (honestly the main one never said). It’s hard to just poof a family that’s centuries old. I do have a writer who volunteered to be a love interest as well but have to wait 13 years for a child to be playable plus aging a child might mess up other people’s timelines. In this time it’s hard to make sense why Kats siblings etc would be around and not dead as they are over 900 years old. It all gets muddled in my head.

So I’m now trying to figure out what to do. I’ve got some options but figured I would see what the community thinks. Some of you may have done similar things with characters or just have ideas.

This is something I’ve been pondering for a while and I’ve had a lot of people give me advice and ideas. I appreciate all of them and every little bit helps as I mull this around.

Seems like you want to RP a kid for her? Rewrite it to where she had one 13 years ago. But really do what you want to do, reset if you need to. Whatever is most fun.

Honestly, do what you like and don't worry about other people's timelines, follow yours. If you want Kat to have a kid, then make her have a kid and age them to where you want them. You have wanted family RP for a while, so I just say make it happen. Maybe a sibling also got stuck in stasis and ended up in the same era, or fell through a worm hole. There are a lot of options to tell the story you're most interested in!

I don't know your character well, so forgive me for barging in. But maybe you could create a clone? Or a genetic offspring that's been rapidly aged to whatever age you want? That way you get your 13 year old offspring without messing with anyone's timeline? That, or yeah, screw the timeline and give her a kid lol

I did just delete her bio to rework it with whatever outcome this leads me.

Go with this. Do a thread or two or eight set in the past.

Fast forward to kid now. Maybe love interest kidnapped the kid? Maybe you sent kid away for their safety? Lots of possibilities

My vote is kick off the next generation — I've done it with several of my old characters at various points and uniformly loved the results. They've really become some of my favorite characters.

I'd also like to toss out some alternative ideas that might feel satisfying and let you explore new creative angles while keeping what you love:

• The Elric/Eternal Champion/reincarnation route — same IC soul, new iteration.
• The Dread Pirate Roberts/Batman Beyond route — same name, legacy inheritor.
• The Absolute Batman route — reboot-plus, reinterpretation, new take on the character in different formative circumstances, enjoying how they're the same but different.
• The Doctor Who route — versions of Katerine Ryiah have crossed paths with hundreds of characters, so lean into it. Make time go sproing. Be unmoored. Be mythic.

Don't remember the details of the bio, but you could pick a bit of all the options here and there.

While Kat was in cold storage someone managed to grab a snippet of her DNA. MaD SCiEnCE occurred and now X years after that point what is the genetic equivalent of a child/niece/nephew/etc comes into the picture. Could be a 13-year old who's gestation pod went all wacky as a side effect of the experiment, or the stuff went wacky because the gestation pod ran into programming bugs. There are options.

Could open up some storylines with some of the more bioengineer-style characters here too, or some of the cloner characters floating around for both the new character and Kat.
