Weekend Monster Hunt

Villages around the area had suffered attacks throughout the region. Initially, the losses had been livestock and damage to property caused by a rarely seen creature. Originally put down to hearsay and tales with local predators to blame, the naysayers had been silenced when contact with a village high in the mountains suddenly ceased. Local investigators had found only destruction and death, the few survivors who had managed to escape speaking of a massive beast that had suddenly come from the upper slopes, destroying everything before it and devouring all in its path. A passing Jedi was persuaded to find the creature, but disappeared shortly after entering the mountain peaks. Stories and fear grew until local dignitaries put out the call for help to the galaxy.
With the stars alight with conflict and war, the incident became a minor blip on the galactic radar, but for those individuals with a sense of adventure or, perhaps, a desire for profit the call became a beacon.
Hunters and profiteers from around the galaxy have arrived to track down the creature of which little is known. Will you be the one to hunt the monster? Or will your adventure end at the dripping maw of the creature atop windy peaks and snowy mountaintops?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Alright folks," came the voice from the commlink. It was broadband and sent to any hunter who happened to be in the area. "This is the Coordinator speaking. What we have on this creature is minimal at best. Survivor accounts put this thing as the size of a light freighter, possibly larger. From what they've told us, we're looking at a quadrupedal fuzzball with some sort of tusks or horns and a length of natural armor down its back."

"This thing is probably carnivorous, possibly omnivorous, and is obviously aggressive. A local 'saber jockey went missing trying to find this thing, which means its possibly powerful enough to overcome your run-of-the-mill Jedi Knight and could even have some natural measures against the Force or lightsabers, maybe both. We only have on image of the creature, a bit of art one of the surviving villagers managed to cobble together. I've included it in this report."

A muted ping sounded across the transmission, indicating the data packet had been sent and received over the commlinks.

"Reports vary on this thing's location and we don't know how many there are. Could be a lone critter, could be several. The map included in the data packet shows the village of Pavv in the valley. You'll want to make your way up the winding path the locals call the Road to Heaven. The last sighting was in the rather ominously named Silent Valley, a location the locals try to stay away from. The Summit is where we figure the monster likely resides, but we're not completely sure. It could easily be in either location or elsewhere."

"Temperatures range from sweltering heat in the lowlands to frigid near the peaks. Equip yourself accordingly. If you're missing anything, the locals in Pavv might have a few odds and ends for sale. When you find the creature, or it finds you, and successfully bring it down, set off a signal beacon. The eggheads want to examine the creature for cataloging and scientific reasons."

"One last thing: Remember the rules here. We want it more or less mostly intact for starters. Secondly, you're not doing this for free. You're getting a finder's fee from the galactic scientific community for taking the monster down so they can research it. In addition, you can keep anything you take off the creature. Teeth, claws, pelt, bone. You kill it, its yours to do with as you will."

"Work together or alone. Up to you. Stay safe and happy hunting."

Town of Pavv

Rangers....

Or more specifically they were Jacks Rangers. He'd trained them on Exocron during a long exile. Yes he'd faked his death, allowing his kin to believe he was dead and gone. A useful skill from his travels he had learned. He'd even left everything to them and retreated to any place that called itself a Backwater, Frontier or Wilderness world.

[member="Felyn"]

No more Governments, No more Clan Raxis, No more anything.

Just war. What he was good at.

"Aye lad's we got a target do we?"

His lead Ranger a Bith by the name of Torvil nodded, and adjusted his green jacket. They'd all come in their frontier finest, clad with pistol, Tomahawk, Long gun and knives.

Jack himself had traded in his shotgun for a Nightsister Plasma bow. Something he'd seen the old Queens Rangers do nicely, before they were disbanded and slaughtered. He took another sip of his drink, thinking of those old days. He'd saved them, and in the end they'd paid the price for their loyalty.

"Aye we do Jack. Shall we round up the boys and head into the Mountain?"

"Oh nah. One more drink. Besides," He said, affixing an ancient bayonet to his long gun and loading a clip of Slugs.

"I'm not quite through preparing yet."

Lewis had spent several weeks in the town of Pavv, working as a healer. He'd come to the town searching for a source of power through the force, but his findings were turning up little. He offered his knowledge of force healing in return for food, drink and a place to stay. The townsfolk of Pavv were happy to oblige, providing he kept his lightsaber unignited.

He taken multiple expeditions up into the mountains, looking for the source of the energy, but came back with nothing every time. Now, due to the 'monster', his guides were refusing to walk the trail. Lewis had fumed and refused to see any patients that day. It had only occurred to him, deep in the night, that maybe the monster was the cause of the power he felt.

A month earlier, the village had been fairly empty. Filled with only the locals, a day in Pavv was quiet and relaxing. Now that more outsiders had arrived, the village was loud. The latest addition was a group of rangers who had quickly filled up the inn. Lewis had met men like them before and (if he was a villager) he'd fear for the town's alcohol supply.

He had hesitated before accepting the bounty. He wasn't big on fighting, even as a Sith, and the monster seemed dangerous. He had little love for Jedi, but respected their prowess in combat. And if the Jedi had perished, what chance did he have? He accepted it anyway. He had come too far, spent too much effort to just go back home with nothing.

He announced to the villagers that this would be his last day and that he was no longer healing. He was sitting at a corner table in the Inn's dining room when the message from the coordinator came through. He opened the data packet to look at the beast and swore. It was large and looked tough. But art was usually exaggerated and he had no idea how well this villager had seen the beast.

He leaned back on his seat and winced as his saber hilt poked into his side. He removed it from his belt and set it on the table. He leaned back and relaxed. Better to gather his energy before the expedition and scope out who else was hunting the beast.

The thrill of the hunt, or what ever it was that Isaac said last time they had talked about hunting and tracking. Though one thing that discussion did bring up was the lack of practice she had during the last few weeks. Though her skills as a tracker where not degrading ,due to a good number of jobs recently, the aspect of hunting a beast over the course of several day weather it was small or large needed some exercise if she wanted to stay on her game. When the news about the monster of a beast came to her she quickly jumped at the offer.

While walking about the town of Pavv she ran through her head a possible strategy for tracking and hunting the best in question from images produced by witnesses. 'The beast was four legged and obviously carnivorous, it would be fast and be a fast striker before retreating into the wilderness, baiting tracking and a hunt of attrition wearing the beast out before the final kill would be the best bet'.

Walking around she decided to take a break in the local in, 'meh close enough to a caniina'upon entering the inn she heard and saw a group of rangers judging by their outfit and over in the comer.. a force user judging by the light saber so care-freely placed on the table, and if memory served her correctly "why hello there [member="Lewis Roth"], what bring you here, hmmmmm"

Cord shivered in the harsh wind that was blowing across his face, like icy knives cutting away at his soul. He had never been to any place as cold as this, as he was used to the warm climate of Endor. He would've been sitting in his treehouse, drinking some alien coffee, right next to the fire. Anywhere but this. He only came to this planet because of the mysterious disappearance of the last Jedi that came here, and the rumors of the "Great Monster". He didn't come for the money of course, he came because he knew the Jedi quite closely, from his brief time on the city planet of Coruscant.

"I would've done anything for a bowl of Gorba melt," He whispered to no one except himself.
He reached the village after a long, snowy hike, yet he saw no villagers in sight. Perhaps they were cowering in their houses? He did see quite a lot of hunters, Jedi, and adventures walking around. He avoided eye contact, they seemed like a rowdy bunch, ready to start a fight any minute. He saw plenty of posters hinting the Monster, yet no posters showed what it looked like, or who it killed. He secretly wished some one else could kill it for him, but that was the cowardly thing to wish. He was over his days of hiding.

Cord grabbed his cloak and swung it around him, covering his body and preventing the loss of function of his vitals. He saw one villager, a human with long, purple hair, who he discovered her name as Ma'tasa. She let him stay in her house, and he kindly thanked her for her hospitality. He sat down next to the fireplace, unthawing his lightsaber, which had developed a thick layer of frost.

"Are you here for the treasure, sir? I have noticed many of the people are here for adventure, or money." She had a strange unhumanly accent to her voice, like a speaker with a stick stuck in it.

"I came because of the Jedi that went missing, as well as stopping the beast that is devouring your neighbors." He said this in an uneasy tone, still unerved about her strange, almost terrifying voice that tore into his soul.

He suddenly got a very bad feeling about who he was in the house with, but before he could even think about how to get out of there, Cord heard the sound of the crowd of people hunting down the beast running up toward the mountain.

"Thank you for your hospitality, ma'am. I have to go catch up with the others." He seemed a bit relieved to get out of the house, because that tone of voice, wasn't the sound of a peaceful villager.

IT WAS THE SOUND OF A SITH.

"Ah well look lads!"

Jack said, finishing fixing the bayonet and cocking his .308 Long gun. He set it down butt first on the wooden planks of the deck and raised up from his chair, eyes roving the tavern. There was quite a few folks he didn't know, but could surely feel. The fifty or so Rangers in the company turned and grinned as he spoke.

Torvil slammed his drink, tossing the tankard on the table and scooping up his own ruck and gear.

"We got ourselves some Jedi eh? Tell me mister Jedi. What kin' of Jedi get's killed by a rovin' beasty? Y'know ya can't hunt it alone in such small numbers. Join our company of Rangers, we'll show you how ta' hunt proper like."

Cord strayed outside, avoiding eye contact. He was still shaky after the experience with the Sith he met in the house. He sat down on a rock and piled his gear onto his shoulder. He grabbed his cloak and swung it around him, covering his face completely. He noticed a few of the mercenaries eyeing him funnily.

"We got ourselves some Jedi eh? Tell me mister Jedi. What kin' of Jedi get's killed by a rovin' beasty? Y'know ya can't hunt it alone in such small numbers. Join our company of Rangers, we'll show you how ta' hunt proper like."

"Hm?" Cord looked at the group, and noticed they were talking about him. "Well, you see, I'm not exactly here for the money, but--"

A mercenary patted him on the shoulder. "Welcome to the group, lad!"

The group started their trek onto the mountain, Cord being awkwardly dragged along with them.

She sat down with Lewis and ordered a drink brought after he did, finding it a bit stronger than what she was used to but not wincing like Lewis did, they sat for a while and chatted. Upon seeing the ranger get up she decided that it was time to leave as well with Lewis but stopped slightly when she noticed Lewis eye up a young fellow with the group up ahead, it didn't take a genius to realize he was a force user himself.
The number of force users that seemed to be joining in on this hunt was a bit strange to her, since the beast seemed to have a taste for Jedi, "hmmm I wonder if the beast is force sensitive or can it track other force users, might have to try that out during the hunt, might be interesting". Knowing how cold the climate would be upon leaving the village she equipped her heavy winter clothing and snow camouflage, though she wasn't use to the clood coming from the desert planet of Tatooine she had enough experience to get by without complaining. Before joining the main group about to head out to the mountain she turned [member="Lewis Roth"], "are you coming with the group or are you going solo later when you feel like it.

It hadn't taken long for the tavern to fill. He had worried about the rangers causing trouble before the hunt even began, causing a delay. But his fears were unfounded, they were a disciplined lot. The new arrivals included a one-time acquaintance of his; a bounty hunter by the name of @Formorta.

"Why hello there Lewis Roth, what bring you here, hmmmmm?"

She was pale, with a red eye and bleached hair. Her appearance unnerved the villagers, as well it should. Lewis knew she was a hardened killer, exactly the type you wanted along for a hunt.

"Same thing that I expect has brought you here, the monster in the mountains". A waitress delivered a drink. He sipped it and winced at the burn. Seems like the villagers brewed their own moonshine rather than import spirits. No wonder the rangers were so rowdy.

He felt a twinge in the force. There was another force-user in the village, they had just walked past the inn. He casually re-attached his saber to his belt as he continued to chat to Formorta.

The rangers were all getting up, apparently deciding now was the time to start the hunt. He supposed that means he needed to leave as well, but he had no idea where to even start looking for the beast. Better to negotiate with these rangers and see if he could join them.

He left the inn and made a beeline to what seemed to be the lead ranger. He crossed about half the ground before he stopped in his tracks. He had found the force-user. He was a gangling man with tan skin, probably not much older than Lewis. He was grinning nervously as the rangers welcomed him into their fold. He was strong in the force and everything about him screamed of the Light. ([member="Cord T'sana"])

Lewis frowned, his hand unconsciously drifting to his saber. Jedi were dangerous. They schemed, manipulated and were unpredictable. Lewis again considered leaving, but then the Jedi would reach the beast and absorb its power. That he could not allow.

The group had started to move off, so Lewis rush to them and shouted for them to hold up. All eyes in the expedition turned towards him.

"Sorry I'm late, you rangers move fast eh?" He gave a low bow to the ranger wearing leader's colours. "Lewis Roth, a researcher and 'saber jocky' as it is referred to around here. I'd like to accompany you on your expedition. He shook [member="Jack Raxis"] hand and added: "I'm part of the Sith Ascendancy, but I am here on personal business. I hope my.... affiliations don't cause any trouble." He looked at each member of the group, his eyes lingering on the Jedi's for only a moment longer.

Walking towards the group of rangers lead by [member="Jack Raxis"] with Lewis and was a bit surprised by [member="Lewis Roth"] and is very straight forward and casual introduction about being a Sith especially with the younger force user that was present. She gathered from the way he reacted that he was most likely a Jedi or light side user of the force. To be honest to herself she didn't care what type of force user one was as long as it didn't cause trouble or if they were pure evil, but she knew other didn't have the same view as her. 'this might cause some trouble'.

Waiting for lewis to introduce himself she eyed over the mercenary band that seemed to have assemble for the mission looking at what weapons they had and trying to judge what skills they specified in. Once Lewis finished she decided to introduce herself once everyone made their respective comments, "I'm Formorta, mercenary, tracker and bounty-hunter, nice to meet you all i guess"

Not being one for bounty hunting or mercenary work, a hunt for a creature terrorizing a village on a remote planet was a welcoming change from the usually pirate infested ancient ruins. Though what worried her was the description given an artist rendition of the beast in question, it wasn't anything her historical studies had come across and its recent behavior in going after Jedi was a bit unnerving. This along with the fact that they didn't know how many of them their where would be a problem if she hoped to take care of it. Never the less this hunt would provide food and possible pay as well as a valuable learning experience and documentation. "it is a interesting beast i hope i get the chance to study it a bit before killing it, i wonder what its blood looks like.

Walking around the town looking for a potential group to travel with on this endeavor she approached the inn for the moment keeping her force signature concealed just in-case, "don't want to alert any potential Sith lords who want to use this beast for whatever evil plans and schemes they have". Coming closer to the inn she noticed a group of ranger and a young boy who she sensed was gifted in the force as well as another force user standing next to what appeared to be a bounty hunter, what tipped her off the most was the mans ([member="Lewis Roth"]) darkness animating from him but at the same time glimmers of light. Was he a Sith turned good or a user like me drawing from both sides of the force though leaning more towards the dark side. She lowered her force barriers alerting to both of the of another force user to her presence and made her way towards the group when the mercenary woman ([member="Formorta"])finished her introduction 'lets see how this goes'.

The two members that caught his eye were a standing out a bit from the others. Cord sensed dark energy passing from the black-haired man ([member="Lewis Roth"]), he seemed like he was a Sith, though if he was on the expedition, Cord would'nt have to worry about him, because he would have the same goal others would have; to find the beast.

The woman (@Formorta) in the dark green cloak had a snowy white complexion, and bleach white hair. She didn't show her mouth, for it was covered by a mask that Cord was too nervous to ask about. She had a sniper lugged across her back, and was talking to [member="Jack Raxis"].

Cord also noticed a young scholar walking by ([member="Sky'ito Yumi"]), who seemed to be Force Sensitive. She didn't seem out of the ordinary, just on the hunt to learn more about the beast.

Cord was getting uncomfortable from the way the Sith was staring at him. He seemed to hate Cord already. Cord didn't want to be hated by anyone now, the expedition was just getting started. He hoped he could befriend atleast one person this jouney.

The snow was getting even more intense. The wind was pushing him a bit. He yanked his cloak a bit tighter. He prayed he wouldn't die of hypothermia during this trip, if he didn't get eaten by the monster first.

She could sense the young boy worry about the sith and it was clear he was uncomfortable about it, she was to some extent though she didn't show it . She passed [member="Formorta"] and made her way to [member="Cord T'sana"]. "Poor guy looks like he's going to freeze to death at any moment" she though. Unlike him Sky'ito havd traveled a lot during her childhood and was use to cold climates, drawing from the light side she aprched him putting on a warm smile "hello there Cord what bring a Jedi knight all the way out here". She tried to be ask kind as she could toward him putting an arm around him to help against the cold using her cloak as a wind breaker, this place was not suitable for one who was not used to the cold. She would make sure to protect him if need be and make sure he sith didn't try anything funny, though she knew he wasn't allowed to bad they way he looked a Cord was a problem. 'Looks like he has his own problems with the Jedi himself, this might be more difficult that I though' she murmured to herself. Looking back at Cord "don't worry about him I'll help you if he even pose a slightest threat", She tapped her double bladed lightsaber hilt for emphasis to reassure him.

Slightly out of character (Judge age by avatar one should not, over confidence, path leading to darkside it is. Look more into character profile, I should, then true understanding, fine I will. Change avatar you may, but denying oneself, way of the Jedi it is not. Meditate in this you should, before desision you make.)

Slightly out of character (New avatar, older looking it might be, but young in complextion still is. Misunderstanding one could make about age, but not place to tell you want to do I have. Decide for yourself you must, befitting of a Jedi to make difficult decisions it is.)
