DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES
Advanced Targeting Systems - The VT-Planetary Defense Array is of course equipped with the most modern Targeting System that money can buy. Each Cannon is able to calculate exact trajectory, flight path, etc.
Dual Power Generators - Because of how the VT-PDA works the weapon requires an enormous amount of power, and thus requires two generators to actually properly operate. Even with these two generators the weapon takes several minutes to fire a single shot.
Oscillating Base - The Weapon is dug deep into the earth, allowing it to rotate and shift to change it's field of fire.
VT-Command Throne - The entire VT-PDA is controlled by a single Vanir Command Throne. This means that almost the entire system can be controlled by a single person. If multiple PDA systems are located, all of them can be controlled through a single throne.

Strengths:

  • Powerful: The Vanir Technologies Planetary Defense Array is, as it's name describes, designed to protect planets. The Cannon is massive compared to other weapons of it's size, and is capable of dealing a tremendous amount of damage to most Capital Ships. The weapon is designed as a replacement for Planetary Defense fleets, allowing a planet to simply maintain a system of PDA's instead of entire fleets.
Weaknesses:
  • Single Fire: Due to the sheer size of the weapon the VT-PDA requires quite a bit of time to actually utilize. Even with its two generators the VT-PDA needs about fifteen minutes for its capacitors to charge each time(3 IC posts).
  • Vulnerable: Though each VT-Planetary Defense Array is equipped with a shield, the weapon system is still extremely vulnerable. It's sheer size and the fact that it cannot be moved means that an orbital bombardment, bombing run, or a team of specialists can destroy the weapon easily enough.
DESCRIPTION
The Vanir Technologies Defense Array was designed and built around the concept of the famed Proton Cannons that have existed for many thousands of years.

In order for a planet to properly operate and actually survive in this day and age they usually have to have some kind of defense. For many worlds this means the creation of a Planetary Defense force filled with starships. As a matter of defined fact, building, maintaining, and operating defense fleets can be extremely expensive. Everything from Corvettes to Star Destroyers offer a high cost in both operation and maintenance, and as such a less pricey route had to be created.

For centuries this meant more rudimentary defense systems. Shields, Turbo-laser towers, and of course simple laser cannon emplacements were used for less fortunate planets that could not afford full Planetary Defense Fleets. Of course these worlds were left wanting, especially if a larger force assaulted them. Though Turbo-laser Towers were great against Corvettes and other smaller ships, they left a glaring weakness against Star Destroyers and other large vessels.

Aiming to fill this slot, Vanir Technologies created the Planetary Defense Array.

The PDA, for short, was designed as a far more powerful variant of the typical Proton Cannon. Though it's upfront cost is quite high, once built a VT-PDA has much lower operational and maintenance costs than even the smallest capital ship. It's two generators provide all the energy the weapon requires and maintaining the weapon is simple enough for most planets to do on their own.

The Planetary Defense Array stands as a bulwark, fending off even larger fleets. The weapon, being based of the Proton Cannon, is capable of inflicting a great amount of damage on even the largest of Capital Ships. An entire system of these Cannons could in theory function as a ward against all but the most powerful fleets, allowing a Planet to secure itself without the need for more costly fleets.
