SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Shield Projector
  • Engines
  • Grounding Hooks
Strengths:
  • Shield: The VT-Citadel Pod is designed for lack of a better term to 'create a fortress on the battlefield'. The pod itself is about as big as a starship sized concussion missile, capable of being fired from any capital ship's weapon bay and programmed to target some place planetside. Once there, the Pod strikes the ground and anchors itself in place, projecting a large(20m diameter) shield that is capable of protecting whatever is inside. This shield can take quite a bit of damage before failing, even light orbital bombardment.
Weaknesses:
  • Power Supply: The Citadel Pod only has a limited supply of power and energy. This means that the shield can really only last for so long. Typically under general use the shield will last four to five hours, however if it is strained heavily(say by orbital bombardment) this time can be cut into a single hour. Of course the power supply could be augmented by an outside generator, but this would take some time to hook up.
  • Weak-Point: Like every piece of technology, the Citadel Pod is not indestructible. One can quite easily destroy a Citadel Pod with a single thermal detonator or grenade simply by throwing such a device into the pain shield projector.
DESCRIPTION
The VT-Citadel Pod was thought up as a design innovation not necessarily as new technology but as the application of old technology in a new means.

The concept of a portable base has long since been a military strategy. Both the Empire and The Old Republic utilized mobile command centers in order to set up places where they could safely operate out of. The Citadel Pod is another means of this innovation, albeit one that is slightly changed.

As one might expect, there is always danger on the battlefield.

What the Citadel Pod was designed to do was create 'safe zones' within the battefield itself.

The pod accomplishes this goal through strategic placement. A capital ship in orbit is given coordinates and then the Citadel Pod is fired from the vessel. The Pod falls to the planet below and using it's engines places itself with pin point accuracy where it had been directed to go. Once the pod is in place it will hook itself into the ground and stabilize and then begin it's projection of a shield.
This shield functions as a safe zone for the soldiers, being large enough to fit several dozen men and even a few vehicles inside.

The Vanir Technologies Citadel Pod allows one to create momentary lapses of calm for soldiers, as well as creating small impromptu 'basis' throughout the battlefield.
