Projector - The main function of the Bulwark is it's shield projector. This is what allows the device to actually function and initiate.
Modular Mounting - Due to the role as a personal shield, the Bulwark as a modular mounting apparatus. This allows the device to be placed onto a host of different armors and even belts.
Strengths:
- Shield: The Bulwark, as it's name implies, is a shielding device that can be attached to multiple armors, bandoleers, or belts. The Shield works on a rather simplistic principal, much like the shields of the famed Droideka droids, erupting in a large bubble around the wearers and protecting them from damage. The shield can withstand light arms fire, lightsabers, heavy blasters, and glancing rocket hits.
- Movement: The Bulwark only works when the user is stationary. The shield can only maintain itself when the person using it stand sin one place. Though ducking and moving within the shield is simple and possible, as soon as more than a single step is taken the projector will fail.
Personal shields are neither a new nor innovative technology.
The ability to create a thin ray shield or deflector shield has been consistently possible since...as long as most of the galaxy can actually remember. Combatants during the Jedi Civil War, Mandalorian Wars, and even Clone Wars all used a variant of personal shields that provided them with additional protection during a fight. These tools are not rare, nor are they particularly unique.
In fact, several companies have also managed to design 'bubble' like shields capable of creating small sectors of ray shielding in an immovable post. This offers protection, though most of the time these devices are cumbersome and difficult to carry.
The VT-Bulwark is a simple design innovation, taking a famed piece of technology and slimming it slightly while improving operating capacity. Though there are some drawbacks, mainly it's stationary requirement.
The VT-Bulwark is an exceptional tool that essentially copies the function of a famed Force User technique. The shield is not impenetrable or indestructible but can nevertheless protect the user against a high amount of firepower before failing.
