- Fast: The chief design aspect of the Aurel Assault Frigates are their speed. These vessels are not for sustained combat. Their role is to quite literally jump in and out of fights. The engines on this vessel are top of the line, smaller thrusters are located all over the vessel, and it's hyperdrive is equipped with a VT-HC, allowing it to conduct multiple jumps in quick succession. The Aurel work by quickly hopping in and out of fights, never staying in one place long.
- Hard Hitting: For it's size the Aurel Assault Frigate packs quite a punch, and this is done for a reason. The vessel was created to jump into an enemy ship's face, unload a barrage of it's Hyper-velocity Cannon and missile pods then jump away. This quick and decisive attack is designed to cripple larger vessels an open them for the Aurel's boarding pods, a simple one two punch.
- Vulnerable: The Aurel isn't designed to sustained combat. Though it has standard shields and armor plating, these simply aren't enough. If an Aurel is ever locked down or it's hyperdrive malfunctions, the ship could easily be destroyed by similar sized vessels, not to mention Star Destroyers.
- Reactor: Like most of the ships produced by Vanir Technologies, the Aurel features what is known as an overclocked reactor. The ships powersource works extra hard, feeding the Hyperspace Capacitor as well as the ships weapons to allow all systems to function. Unfortunately this reactor can be incredibly finicky, and at times it can lead to malfunctions which can be downright destructive.
As Vanir Technologies expanded it's line of Starships it became more and more apparent that the current market was saturated with vessels built for power and endurance.
This became more and more clear as Vanir looked into various government designs, using sensor logs and other resources in order to best establish the most utilized qualities of current active Government and Private Navies. Eventually the conclusion came that something else was required within the market place. Though heavy, slow, and durable vessels have their place in every battlegroup, so did the more fast and maneuverable ships.
Most smaller vessels are currently not designed for ship to ship engagements. Rather, these smaller vessels, Corvettes, Frigates, and even Cruisers are designed either as light dedicated carriers or anti-fighter duties. Though this is of course fitting, Vanir decided to press it's technological aptitude and designed a ship to take advantage of the numerous lumbering Star Destroyers employed by Galactic Navies.
The result of this design was the Aurel-Class Assault Frigate.
The Aurel-Class, simply speaking, was designed as a fast attack craft capable of engaging ships much larger than itself.
Through a multitude of design changes the Aurel-Class was honed to perfection. The ship itself is equipped with the most powerful engines Vanir can produce, a large reactor powers the ship, and it's weapon suite complement it's roll perfectly. A single penetrative Hypervelocity gun as well as a variety of concussion and proton torpedo emplacements point the craft perfectly to it's role of a first strike Frigate.
The general design strategy of the ship is relatively simple. Utilizing the VT-Hyperspace Capacitor as well as the more exacting location specifications of the VT-Refraction Sensor the Aurel-Class pin-points the locations of various fleet entities throughout the system. Once a plan of attack, proper trajectory, and jump coordinates are set the Aurel hops into action.
The ship bursts forward through a micro-jump in hyperspace, dropping out directly in front of or above the enemy ship. It fire's it's suite of weapons, causing as much damage as it can before launching it's boarding pods. Then before the enemy has time to mount a proper response the ship uses it's superior speed and maneuverability to turn and then once again jump away into hyperspace. The Aurel then repeats this tactic or switches to another if the enemy engages interdictors or other countermeasures.
This stratagem is of course only the obvious tactic, and intelligent Commanders will be able to utilize the Aurel in many other different fashions.
Vanir of course simply intends to utilize the ship to expand it's market share, pressing the issue and creating a piece of technology that many might find useful.
