Manufacturer: Karl Von Strauss | N&Z EnSol | N&Z Laboratories
Type: Biotech
Market Status: Closed Market
Production: Semi-Unique
Weight: Weightless
Size: Very Small

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Core Function: Cognitive Sync
    • The implant is hardwired into Karl's central nervous system, specifically the cerebral cortex, the limbic system, and the brainstem. Being connected to these areas captures conscious thought, emotional states, and autonomic responses. This results in a slightly delayed transmission of thought processes, sensory data (including visual, auditory, and tactile, to name a few), neurochemical signatures (stress, deception detection, and emotional weighting), and overall rationale.
  • Black Box and Severing the Link:
    • Should Karl die, the implant functions as a black box recorder, using the long-life capacitors to dump the last several minutes (or hours) of neural activity to THEMIS instantly. This also means that THEMIS would not only know that he died, but she would know the exact situation, motivations, and betrayals (if any) involved.
    • Upon death, incapacitation, or disconnection, THEMIS or Karl can sever the link after the transmission (depending on the amount of data, from minutes to hours, the transmission can last seconds to minutes) of the black box data.
STRENGTHS
  • Real-Time Cognitive Sync: THEMIS receives Karl's thoughts, sensory data, decision-making rationale, and emotional states with very little delay, enabling near-perfect understanding of his intent.
  • Legacy Preservation: The implant ensures that Karl's accumulated knowledge, leadership philosophy, and personal judgments are directly archived into THEMIS, preserving his legacy even in death.
  • Silent Communication: Enables secure, non-verbal communication between Karl and THEMIS, bypassing external comms entirely. Ideal for stealth, diplomacy, or battlefield operations.
  • Variable Bandwidth: The amount of information that can be sent from Karl to THEMIS can be adjusted with a single thought. If the bandwidth is light, there is about a 30-45 second delay; if the bandwidth is standard, then there is only a 10-15 second delay. If the bandwidth is heavy, then there is only a 1-2 second delay, but prolonged use can cause Cognitive Strain.
WEAKNESSES
  • Cognitive Strain: Prolonged use of heavy bandwidth can cause migraines, hallucinations, or overstimulation without proper regulation.
  • Privacy Loss: THEMIS knows everything, including thoughts Karl hasn't consciously acted on.
  • Vulnerability Vector: If the implant were physically compromised (extracted post-mortem, and before the link was cut, for example), it could pose a serious security breach into THEMIS.
DESCRIPTION
The VSI-1 NORNIR-LINK "Skuld Anchor" Neural Synchronization Interface, or simply the Skuld Anchor, is a highly advanced prototype neuro-cybernetic implant designed to form a persistent connection between Karl Von Strauss's biological cognition and the THEMIS Advanced Artificial Intelligence Interface's (THEMIS) digital consciousness. More than a tool of command, the Skuld Anchor functions as a safeguard of memory, intent, and legacy.

The Skuld Anchor captures the sum of Karl's conscious and subconscious thoughts, sensory experiences, and cognitive reasoning as they occur, transmitting with very little delay to THEMIS. This link allows THEMIS to truly understand the motivations, context, and emotional weight behind Karl's actions. It is, in essence, a living reflection of his mind projected into her own (which in itself is a copy of a Karl's from a while back).

Beyond the Core Function of cognitive syncing is the additional function of preservation. Should Karl be incapacitated, disconnected, or in the extreme case of death, the implant sends the last several minutes (or hours) of neural activity to THEMIS instantly via the heavy bandwidth mode. This ensures that no final words are lost, no intentions left unclear, and no unanswered questions remain. THEMIS would know what happened, why it happened, and who was responsible, enabling her to carry forward his will, protect his family, secure his legacy, or even simply grieve in her own way. It also works in the opposite direction, sending Karl THEMIS's last moments.

The link offers subtle conveniences as well. THEMIS passively observes and learns, adding to her heuristic growth based on Karl's lived experiences. The link also allows for private, silent communication between the two that is faster than speech. THEMIS not only serves but also evolves alongside Karl's development. While this technology is robust, with quantum-switch code encryption and sophisticated neural mapping, it is not without its limits. The implant is reliant on the health of Karl's nervous system. Severe neurological trauma can disrupt the feed. Extended use of heavy bandwidth can cause mild to severe cognitive strain.

At its core, the Skuld Anchor is not a weapon or a tool of dominance. It is a safeguard, an understanding written in code and consciousness, ensuring that no matter what happens to Karl Von Strauss, his life, his decisions, and his purpose will not be forgotten. There is also only two of these models, one for Karl, and the other for THEMIS.
