Description: Armor piercing and reliable, these are the features that are put into the Vortex, a shotgun for military or home defense. This weapon has the power of eight gauge shells and hits hard and takes names.

How it's built. It's relatively simple in construction, a tube, feed system and rotating bolt and trigger housing unit the most complex piece in the machine has to be the bolt, if this becomes broken there's really no way to repair it unless you are a gunsmith. The weapon is put together easily and can be cleaned and maintained without all that much hassle, everything is very self explanatory and basic. This gives it the ability to be reliable and operate under the most stressful of environments.

Power. Packing a eight gauge shotgun shell this is a rather large munition, however birdshot will not pierce armored targets. Buck shot and slugs are capable of penetrating durasteel armor, Other super metals such as Beskar and Ultra chrome not even the destructive power of the eight gauge stacks up to the metals. While the kinetic energy from the hit will still be transferred the balls or slug will not pierce the armor. But for the average grunt or home invader the shotgun will do the trick and will even cut storm troopers down.

Archaic. It's older and less modern design helps the shotgun. In a galaxy saturated with blaster and energy based products that will stop functioning after a day in a humid biome the Vortex will continue to function through it's simple design. EMP and ion attacks will not effect the shotgun as it is gas operated. But despite being less advanced then other weapons in the galaxy the eight gauge solid durasteel slug or balls can still power through enemies both soft and moderately armored.

Drawbacks. The weapon doesn't have a lot of modularity, a person can strap on a new sight but other than that you get what you get when it's ordered. Internal modularity is next to impossible and if the weapon breaks down from it there are no returns. Another feature that the weapon has is it's tube fed, reloading it can be slow and tedious at times having to load in one shell at a time. Another issue is it's recoil, as it is an eight gauge shotgun it has a lot of kick to it, this means that whoever is operating it should know what they are doing before using the weapon. Reclaimer Arms & Industries is not responsible for any accidental injury from recoil incidents.

Summary. The vortex is a powerful shotgun that can cut down the grunts of the galaxy and even works great against force users. While it does have a pretty hearty kick to it once an operator gets used to it the weapon system can kick all kinds of butt.

Hello again, nicely written sub! :)

Is there anything in this that makes it more effective than the current - and by star wars standards massively outdated - technology?

I'm not too keen on this being a blank cheque to pierce phrik as it's written.

Nope it's just a basic shotgun. Also I edited the phrik part. The way phrik is written on the wook page is being light and durable while also being saber resistant, other metals like Beskar and ultrachrome are written as slug thrower resistant and what not. So it stands to reason that a .50 caliber slug could in fact pierce a metal that's more energy resistant than physically

[member="Patricia Susan Garter"] Apologies for the delay!

So the sub is good, but the language still makes out that this is a weapon of awesome power, despite being technology which is close to redundant in this setting.

If you could either roll back on this language a little, or perhaps even come up with something new that would be great! I'm always content to pass through a modern day slugthrower through, it just needs to be described relative to the technology of the current setting :)

For example, you could make a plasma armature rail shotgun, that uses an ionised gas to launch pellets/slugs/etc. It would have a hell of a kick, but could add a great deal of punch beyond being constrained to modern day tech. A phrik slug developed to pierce armour through such a weapon could be lethal at close range.

There have been dozens of submissions where archaic slug throwers have been passed through the factory, including crossbows. I can provide links if you want. I edited out the phrik part out. But the point of the submission is to have a weapon that can pack a punch and still function during an ion of EMP based attack, the ones you described would cease to function. And I added another section to it describing how it's archaic

As stated before I have no issues putting slug thrower through. Just with then being described as overpowered compared to contemporary weapons.

Pending approval.
