OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a standard mycelium-producing mushroom for Jack to use in SV creations
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Clathrus ruber
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Vitta sanguinea, 'the bloody lace'
  • Origins: Based on mushroom species found on Taris, but this is a custom strain
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Fungi
  • Average Growth Cycle: From spore to fruiting body takes about 10 days; the plant can produce spores on a regular basis every 5 days afterwards.
  • Viability: Requires saprobic nutrients (feeds off of decaying organic matter), slight water and light intake, but prefers dark and cool environments
  • Description: Tall fruiting hollow body, a vibrant red covered in black spores, distinctive shape, fetid odor
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 20 cm height when fully open, 2 cm when closed
  • Average Width: 20 cm wide when fully open, 4 cm when closed
  • Color: Pale white shell, the fruiting bodies are a bright red, the spores appear to be a black goo
  • Nutritional Value: None
  • Toxicity: Mild indigestion
  • Other Effects: Smells extremely disgusting, like raw rotting meat
  • Distinctions: The fruiting body is spongy but stiff, able to hold its own shape but spread out wide to provide the greatest coverage for its spores to disperse in a strong wind.
Strengths:
  • Potent fruiting body provides an accessible means of sourcing mycelium structures
  • Extremely non-picky nutrient requirements makes it very easy to grow
Weaknesses:
  • Little to no protection once the fruiting bodies are exposed
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Not a particularly notable species originally, the slightly retailored version that Jack crafted is almost indistinguishable from its origin save for the increased growth rate and production. Like almost all fungi, its body is made of mycelium and hyphae, with its particular shape designed for windier environments and maintaining a rigid structure.
