Description: The Viola Coat is Geneviève Lasedri’s own coat design, black and nearly ankle-length to hide all sorts of objects and potential weapons. Originally worn by Lasedri alone, she eventually decided to have the trenchcoat issued to a number of female officers in the Rebel Alliance.

While it does have the drawback of attracting attention to the wearer, the trenchcoat is very durable and resistant to physical projectiles, woven so that it can be sacrificed and tossed over a standard thrown detonator and absorb the shrapnel, thereby smothering the explosion and protecting those nearby from injury. Due to the fiberplast content of the coat, blaster fire can be deflected completely and harmlessly depending on the angle of impact. Direct shots by standard rifles can, however, utterly penetrate the weave.

The Viola Coat also has reinforced straps on the interior to hold and conceal the Alliance’s mainstay SXB-series of firearms, as well as syringes, blades and other, much smaller handheld devices.

The coat is made to drape a little loosely to accommodate more combat-effective armor that might be worn underneath--particularly, that of the ECHO Bactarma variety, or perhaps even Mandalorian armor.

Nothing appears to be an issue here. Just remember actually owning a ysalamir is different than this out being able to hold one. You'd still have to collect the critters. Just bringing this up to avoid abuse.

Ysalamiri are sessile organisms which require careful handling and specialized knowledge to extract from their host trees and place in nutrient frames. The nutrient frames are backpacks so massive that Mara Jade could snipe the ysalamiri out of the frames over the shoulders of attackers who were wearing them. The ysalamiri's claws grow into the nutrient frames, and grow very long. None of the above is practical for a trenchcoat; there's no way it would produce anything but a very dead baby ysalamir. You'll have to remove all mention of ysalamiri from this submission.

From the Wookieepedia page on the ysalmir:
Thrawn used ysalamiri for defense by attaching them to a back harness or a nutrient frame which allowed him and his men to remain safely inside the ysalamiri's Force repelling bubble.
I don't see how this is any different. These creatures can obviously survive for at least short periods without 'eating', just like most living beings. It's canon.

Also, there is no mention of them being sessile, since they are not asexual and must move at some point in order to mate. They also obviously have legs.

No, it's not canon; no, they can't 'obviously survive for short periods', yes, they're sessile, and their legs are very small, not that that has anything to do with anything. You're taking one vague phrase on a Wookieepedia page and ignoring every canon source that's relevant, including at least five easily available novels -- the books that created them. I've read all five multiple times, found'em on the internet, consulted sourcebooks -- this is not hard information to find if you're doing your research.

Denied.

Alright. Things seem to be in order. Only glancing blaster shots are deflected, head-on shots are gonna punch through. Won't do jack against a thermal detonator, but will muffle a standard grenade, and is designed primarily to stop shrapnel. I'll leave the matter of protecting the wearer's face to another sub.

Approved, pending secondary approval.
