- Fleet Carrier: Each Vilifier-class Star Destroyer carries an impressive complement of 144 starfighters and support craft. I-7 Howlrunners, A-9 Vigilance Interceptors, TIE/sa Tactical Bombers, TIE/D automated starfighters and even GAT-12 Skipray Blastboats are all commonly carried aboard these vessels.
- Versatile: Though ostensibly a fleet carrier, the Vilifier-class Star Destroyer can act in a number of different roles, including as a command ship, an assault ship and even as a landing ship.
- Atmospheric Maneuvering: Though they are massively large objects, Vilifiers are capable of both maneuvering in a planet's atmosphere and landing on a planet's surface without the assistance of specialized technology.
- Maintenance Nightmare: To be blunt, maintaining a Vilifier-class Star Destroyer is exceedingly difficult due to the age of each vessel and scarcity of spare parts. It is likely that all Vilifiers will be out of action within a few decades due to these spiraling maintenance costs.
- Poor Ship to Ship Combatant: Though the Vilifier carries an impressive onboard armament, it is unable to go head to head with most other vessels of its size and class. As such, the Vilifier must rely mainly on its starfighter complement to do most of its damage.
- Hangar Doors: The original Venator-class Star Destroyer had a serious design flaw: its hangar doors opened and closed quite slowly, leaving the vessel vulnerable to attack. This design flaw has been carried over to the Vilifier-class Star Destroyer, and is even more pronounced due to the heavier hangar door armor.
Once on the cutting edge of starship technology, the Venator-class Star Destroyer is now little more than a relic of the past. With nearly 10,000 of them constructed during the Clone Wars, many Venators found themselves spread across the galaxy, destined to end their service lives on planets like Mahporeem. Here, they would be decommissioned and taken apart for scrap and other useful components.
However, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant is constantly short of functioning capital ships, and even an old Star Destroyer is still better than no Star Destroyer at all. As such, Mahporeem has recommissioned a number of Venator-class Star Destroyers, renaming them Vilifier-class Star Destroyers.
These vessels received more than just a new name: extensive armor plating has been installed around the vessel's most critical areas, those being its engines and hangar doors. Each Vilifier-class Star Destroyer has also received additional turbolaser turrets, to supplement its still impressive fighter complement.
That being said, the Vilifier remains very much a fleet carrier at heart, and only time will tell if these antiquated but updated designs can go toe to tow with newer, more deadly vessels of other factions.
