ADVANCED SYSTEMS

  • Advanced Tractor Beam Suite (Targeting Computer Controlled, Manual Optional)
  • Advanced Fast Track Turret System (See “Tracking Target” Strength)

Strengths:

  • Pick on someone your own size!: Boasting three dual heavy turbolasers and three twin light turbolasers the Vigilance-class Corvette can hit above its weight without much trouble. Larger than most dedicated anti-starfighter corvettes, this is more of an anti-frigate support vessel. Even so, it can perform the duty of a picket ship, able to track down and pursue vessels. Those caught by the corvette face a deadly array of turbolasers for its class.

  • Well Armored: Because of its construction and a significantly larger profile than most corvettes, the Vigilance-class is much more heavily armored, boasting not only an Ionic Shielding Package but also Durinium Impregnated Durasteel plates which assist the vessel in being able to endure a much heavier volume of fire from both starfighters and capital ships than many of like classified vessels. Unfortunately, this comes at a cost. Due to the heavier physical armor, the shield systems have been downgraded and provide limited protection.

  • Tracking Target: Slaved to an advanced targeting computer, the turbolasers and ion cannons of the Vigilance-class can not only target but also track fast moving targets. It might have trouble tracking some of the faster interceptors but anything slower than an A-wing it can both track and predict firing solutions with relative ease. Of course there’s always a manual override for the most talented of gunnery crews but typically the targeting computer can be relied upon. This coupled with an advanced mechanical turret system allows the heaviest of the corvettes weapons to track targets with ease.

  • I have you now!: Boasting an aggressive set of tractor beams, vessels that do fall into tractor range of the Vigilance-class corvette are in for a ride. Almost as tough to break as the grip of a python, these tractor beams were meant to hold other vessels in place while the heavy turbolaser batteries went to work. Granted smaller fast moving vessels like fighters can escape its grasp if already travelling at speed, anything up to a small frigate can be tractored with great effect.

Weaknesses:

  • Misfire!: Bereft of missile systems, the Vigilance-class corvette has exactly zero missile tubes or launchers, leaving it to rely completely on its turbolaser and turret weaponry. While this works wonderful against smaller vessels and can even do damage to frigates it’s a one trick pony. No missile locks, no proton torpedoes, if it wants to hit something, it’s only got one way to do so.

  • Limited Rear Firing Arc: It’s definitely a ship of Imperial design, and while much of the design differs from its predecessor there remains an inherent problem with all wedge shaped vessels. With the majority of its weaponry along its dorsal bow, the Vigilance-class has only four weapons that can fire to its rear, two light repeating las-turrets and two ion turrets.

  • Did we hit it? I can’t tell!: Lacking some of the longer ranged sensors of hunter/killer corvettes, the Vigilance-class focuses on shorter range, unable to track long distances, it prefers to focus on the immediate surroundings. If it needs to do long range reconnaissance, you can usually find it supported by dedicated scanning and sensor vessels. Nothing special about its current arrays.

  • Hold on to your butts!: Due to the increased armor plating across the ventral and dorsal surfaces there were cuts made elsewhere during the design phase. In addition to having a diminished firing arc to the rear, the aft section of the vessel is more susceptible to increased damage from both ion and standard laser blasts.

Description:

Developed as part of the ongoing effort to maintain naval superiority over their neighboring governments, the Vigilance-class Corvette is the first in a new line of First Order vessels specifically meant to replace the ships designed and deployed by the former Admiral Yvarro. Critical weaknesses once considered safe were now in question with the departure of the Admiral from First Order space. Independently designed by Brandt-Volcata Industries and produced by Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems, the new line of vessels while retaining the external appearance of many imperial designs, have had their interiors gutted and redesigned.

Assessing a need for a maneuverable and hard hitting corvette, the Vigilance-class is equipped with three dual heavy turbolaser turrets as well as an additional three dual light turbolaser emplacements. Also equipped with a fast track system and advanced targeting matrix, the heaviest weapons of the corvette can reliably track enemy fighters - interceptors however typically travel far too quickly, it would be sheer luck to hit something moving quite that fast.

Not typically found on it’s lonesome, it is a support assault vessel by nature, meant to fill the gap between anti-starfighter corvettes and the smaller First Order frigates.

This is a bit high in terms of ratings. For a mass-produced vessel, every rating starts at "average". Any increase in rating from average requires a commensurate decrease in another rating, a decrease in production, or the addition of a significant weakness.

Modified Armament to Moderate (For a Corvette) and Defenses to Low.
Better. The increase in armament (above "average") is compensated for by the defense being "low".

This probably needs to be altered to meet the defense rating of "low". We have a couple ways of going about it. One is to simply delete it. Alternatively, you could make a note that ship has really weak shields (still giving it an overall defense rating of low).

Maneuverability Rating: High
This currently needs something to balance it out.

Hi! Changes in green. [member="Gir Quee"]

Maneuverability Rating: "Average"

STANDARD FEATURES
  • Light Combat Ray Shielding
  • Light Combat Particle Shielding

This looks good stat wise.

Standard Combat Shielding
If you'll change this to "light" here as well.

Archer Brandt said:
High Maneuverability: Due to an optimization of the engine systems and the use of high yield Tibanna from bespin, the Vigilance-class Corvette can move more nimbly than vessels of like size. This coupled with additional directional thrusters grant it the grace of a… well, an orca instead of a whale.

If you'll remove this from the strength's section to go with the stat change to "average" for this.

Archer Brandt said:
Hold on to your butts!: Designed with higher maneuverability, the designers skimped on the aft armor plating. In addition to having a diminished firing arc to the rear, the aft section of the vessel is more susceptible to damage from both ion and standard laser blasts.
Similarly, if you'll remove the "Designed with higher maneuverability" reference from this section as well (It's still good as a weakness, of course).
