Strength-to-weight ratio: Worse strength-to-weight ratio than durasteel i.e to have the same level of durasteel protection, it would weigh more if it is made of viderium steel.
Viderium is one of the thousands, maybe millions of things that exist in uncharted lands, whether Wild Space, the Unknown Regions or extragalactic regions. The ore originates from unexplored area deep in Wild Space. Only a dozen, perhaps less, explorer were able to bring back the knowledge and the actual physical item into the Known Galaxy.
The ore is most usually found in an average depth within the ground of a planet. Extraction, as well as alloying, it is considered rather cheap within the territories of Wild Space. Due to its rarity in the known galaxy, it can fetch much higher price.
What distinguishes Viderium is the result of it being alloyed into Viderium Steel. It possesses nonmagnetic properties which may find usefulness in not being detected by magnetic sensors. Its durability is considered standard in the known galaxy although retaining a slightly worse strength-to-weight ratio than durasteel.
