NAME: Verul Issant

FACTION: NA (yet)

RANK: PhD in biology, former university lecturer.

SPECIES: Human

AGE: 44

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 6,2

WEIGHT: 87 kgs

EYES: Common hazel

HAIR: Slate grey

SKIN: Pallid white

FORCE SENSITIVE: No

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :

Hellbent (Strength) - Verul has the conviction of a fanatic. The things he has borne witness to grant him an unshakable drive to purge what he deems as anathema from the galaxy. This allows him to push through pain and exhaustion that would fell a more sensible soul.

Haunted (Weakness) - The good doctor has, due to a particularly gruesome event, become something of a locus for darkside energy. Though not a force wielder himself he is accompanied constantly by a plethora of darkside spirits. These malevolent entitles are a motley assortment of the galaxy's spectral refuse. Among their number are a collection of damned souls and other stranger intelligences that were likely never alive in a traditional sense. These presences though rarely able to interact with the material world in any physical capacity love nothing more than to torment the professor and his companions with constant barrages of guttural threats , beguiling promises, foul odors and unsettling manifestations. Needless to say this makes being in Verul's company for an extended length of time rather unpalatable. There have been hints that behind the spiritual vermin lurks something or things that possess a greater puissance but if this is indeed the case they do not feel the need to make themselves known to mere mortals.

Biological Ace (Strength) -Once renowned among the galaxies intellectual elite, the professor is a veritable ace when it comes to shaping and modifying life on a genetic level. All bar the strangest forms of life hold little mystery for the previously vaunted academic.

All Consuming (Weakness) - The anger that Verul feels towards those who would try to hide their true nature with fancy words such as jedi and sith threatens to eclipse Verul's being. To him these practitioners are little more than witches and warlocks playing with forces that no mortal should traffic with let alone proclaim to master. This creates a sense of tunnel vision sometimes eclipsing Verul's better judgement.

APPEARANCE:

Professor Issant, as he was once called is a haggard figure. Though likely more fit now than at any other time in his life and packing considerable muscle, a pall of age and wear is draped over his figure. His hair has been drained of its previously mahogany luster replaced with a stark grey. A beard, one of the affectations of his life as a scholar still remains relatively well kempt. Verul is of slightly above average height at standing 6,2. All of the soft parts of Verul have been worn away by time and tide, eroded by the constant purgatory of one who who lives halfway between the worlds of the living and dead. What remains is ragged and hard weather-beaten and battered. When not on the hunt Verul prefers long heavy coats with solid practical boots and clothes that can handle all manner of biological mess. Verul has lost his right arm during his untimely first contact with the darkside and thus has it replaced with a mechanical prosthetic. When on the hunt Verul prefers to don an old suit of AV-1S Scout power armor thanks to the superior protection , strength and mobility that it offers.

BIOGRAPHY: Born on the frigid world of Arkania to a miner couple Verul's childhood was one of deep tunnels, arctic gales and loneliness. Very few of the miners had children and what little interaction he got with others his own age was mostly through the holonet. Despite being homeschooled by a droid tutor Verul showed great promise when it came to studying the anatomy, physiology and biology of all living things. Often bringing back tiny animals he found in the caves for study Verul built himself a small menagerie. His path was set in life when at the age of 12 the boy was taking a walk with his father on the surface during one of the rare days when the sky was clear. The pair witnessed a flight of Arkanian dragons a creature that was thought by many to be extinct. So taken was Verul by the reptilian majesty of the beasts he knew that he had to spend his life studying the many wonderful creatures that inhabited the galaxy.

Verul begged his parents to send him to a school where he could better his knowledge of such things. Though they had hoped that their son would take up mining like they had find a nice Arkanian girl to settle down with and have a brood of brown and white haired children Verul's parents finally gave in sending him to a high-school that specialized in the subject that Arkania was best known for -genetic engineering. It was here that Verul truly began to comprehend life at a level that he had not ever dreamed of before. Taking to his studies like a Jawa to scrap the boy quickly became known as a prodigy. Before he was eighteen the boy had already assisted in removing various congenital flaws inherent in several species of livestock. By the age of 20 he had succeeded in engineering a healthy canid chimera utilizing the dna of numerous divergent strains of creature .At the age of 24 Verul completed his first PhD and received a sizable credit donation allowing him to make a trip across the galaxy on a xenobiology trip.

Perhaps the most enjoyable time of his life, Verul got to travel to many exotic locales and bore witness to the many strange creatures of planets such as Iego , Endor and Kashyyyk. When he returned home at 28 he found that a letter was waiting for him from the First Correlia university one of the most prestigious institutions in the galaxy. It offered a job as a both a lecturer and member of research staff both of which entailed a very generous salary. Verul accepted and bidding farewell to his father (his sole remaining parent) he departed. While not as enthralling as the wilds of the galaxy First Correlia offered top range equipment to use in both personal research and tasks assigned by the faculty. Here Verul spend the next decade crafting numerous species of his own as well as assisting with removing genetic flaws in existing strains of animal.

It felt like things would continue on this way forever. Teaching the brightest young minds of the galaxy, publishing papers and spending time with his research in the lab. But unbeknownst to Verul something rotten was brewing in the university which would throw his very existence into chaos. A cabal of medical students had become fascinated by the idea of bodily resurrection and with dreams of fame and fortune had taken to the study of reanimation and to their naïve minds the triumph over death. Becoming frustrated with the limitations of mundane science they had turned to darker methods in order to attain their goal. The leader of this ill begotten venture was from a particularly wealthy family with criminal ties and had tasked his family's servants with the acquisition of materials related to darkside sorcery - notably the black arts of summoning and necromancy.

So it was that he obtained a grimoire written by a Sith madman Toris Ulthan and his nightsister lover Samarae Koth. Eight students beneath the university participated in a ritual designed to open a gate to the underworld so that they call the dead back to life.

It worked.....

What followed was a bloodstained nightmare. All the cadavers from the medical wing of the university rose up hungry for blood. Spirts howled and jabbered causing violent poltergeist activity. The eight would be sorcerers were the first to die torn apart and devoured by those who had returned from beyond the veil. In a class room directly above a teacher was strangled by his own shadow while his class looked on in horror. Droids started to ooze blood and ichor from their joints as they turned upon their masters speaking in tongues last heard during the might of ancient Korriban. Scalpels began to levitate and seek necks and eyes with unerring accuracy. Verul himself witnessed first witnessed what could only be described as a flayed skin fly into his classroom like some form of demonic manta ray before wrapping around a students head and snapping their neck. The skin's owner was next in his raw form glistening with blood and weeping fluids. As one the class either froze or fled at the sight of the apparition. Only Verul who had become somewhat accustomed to danger on his galactic wildlife voyage ( and still bearing nexu claw scars to prove it) had the presence of mind to dart to the next room grabbing a surgical hammer and knife and beating slicing the skinless horror and its grotesque partner till they could not rise again.

For three days the supernatural maelstrom raged inside the university. A forcefield of dark power surrounded the building preventing all ingress and egress. Concerned families contacted local law enforcement and later the military. It was twenty minutes before the armed forces were about to use a high grade explosive in a attempts to force entry that the dark energy dispersed. When the special forces were sent in to check the place out they were met with a charnel house. Corpses in various states of dismemberment were splayed across the floors and unholy symbols were drawn across the walls in blood and refuse. Out of an onsite body of nearly 5000 students and 600 staff only 120 survivors remained. Half of these had gone irreparably insane. Verul was found in a room full of entrails that he claimed had until the drop of the field become as unto serpents or great leaches and were trying to attack him. Later investigation would indeed confirm that small teeth like growths were to be found in these otherwise seemingly normal organs corroborating Verul's story.

Though alive Verul had not escaped unscathed. His right arm had been mangled beyond repair , his body covered with ragged claw slashes and most importantly his psyche was reeling from the grand guignol of atrocity he had borne witness to. Intermittent trips to the hospital and numerous psychologist brought him Verul back to something approaching normalcy over the course of six months. Nightmares and extreme paranoia featured heavily. Worse yet it was becoming more and more obvious that the fallout of the 'event' wasn't over yet. It started with small things , hissing whispers and shadows flickering at the corners of Verul's eye. Then came voices , the odor of putrescence and the visitations by dead students. This could have been simply passed off as hallucinations engendered by the psychic stress of the incident were it not for the fact that those around the professor were also subjected to the phantasms. Social life was near impossible when hordes of tiny spectral creatures watched over by leering phantoms would re-enact macabre scenes in front of an an unwilling audience.

In desperation the professor reached out to the Jedi temple in hopes of an exorcism. Not willing to take his legion of malignant supernatural presences to a crowded area he chose a remote vista in the deserts of Tatooine for his meeting place. As promised a knight met with the professor and in a remote cabin beneath the scorching sun the mystic began his long spiritual battle with the forces that had taken root in Verul's soul. Verul had no memories of this time save for a few faint recollections of screaming and being slammed into a wall repeatedly with what he later guessed were telekinetic blasts. When the professor returned to consciousness he found himself fleeing through the desert pursued by the Jedi his lightsaber drawn. The force wielder had lost his mind screaming about how Dr Issant was the spawn of Marka Ragnos, a devil in human flesh, one of the dead masquerading as the living and countless other accusations.

Things looked exceedingly bleak for the professor. In the middle of the desert there was little chance of running into any potential saviors. Hunger and thirst wracked his body and there was no way that he could outrun the force enhanced speed of his pursuer. But by some miracle the jedi stepped on the form of a sleeping krayt dragon submersed in the desert sands. The beast emerged furious and before the knight could swing his lightsaber the predators jaws tightened over his torso crushing the life from him. Two things became apparent to Verul in this moment. First that ALL force users were dangerous fools that posed an unprecedented threat to the galaxy with their meddling in forces that no mortal creature can truly understand. Second was that the natural world had tools for dealing with these lunatics.

Returning to his ship a fire had been lit in the professor. His life savings were extracted and placed into buying equipment. Verul would live with the damnation of the ghostly maelstrom that haunted him his life might already be damned but he would offer the galaxy a gift. Predators that specialized in hunting down force users. Not the tainted abominations wrought by Sith alchemy but apex creatures that would hunt users of the light and dark side indiscriminately. Like all experiments though this would require testing. So on that day Verul took up the mantle of the bounty hunter. With his new creations he set about hunting force users, constantly improving his beasts for the time in which he turned them lose into the galaxy to breed and multiply...
