Since there are virtually no mountains on the planet, the temple was significantly shrouded by rock and trees and protected from sight by anyone walking around on foot. There are smaller, less significant Jedi formations scattered on the planet, but these consist of very sparse campgrounds and worn-out shelters meant only to shield your head from the warm rain.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Although very little is known about the origins of Vel-Oris, it has been deduced by scientists that the planet and its system are relatively new compared to its Outer Rim neighbors; storm systems are still very prevalent in the atmosphere, resulting in deadly lightning strikes and strong winds that build rapidly and dissipate just as quickly.

Because of the volatile nature of its stoic, tropical environment, Humans and near-Humans have found it so far impossible to establish secure settlements around the planet. Attempts were made in the decades prior to the Clone Wars, which resulted in disaster for the Humans who found themselves at the mercy of hair-raising, heart-stopping electrical pulses that were somehow generated from the planet’s only sun.

Just prior to the Clone Wars, a small team of Jedi revisited the world to attempt to build more training grounds flung far from the safety of Coruscant. When they were successful, it was discovered that they now had use for a Clone army.

Vel-Oris proved a capable training ground for both the clones and their Jedi generals, where teams were put to the test by muggy conditions and dangerous varieties of poisonous vine snakes. These likely traveled here by sneaking onto vessels from the Core or Kamino.

It seemed the only peace that could be found on the planet was in the sea, where the waters were calm and still, allowing the Republic to run practice missions for their underwater vessels.

When the Jedi were initially wiped out by those very same forces, the Empire saw no use for such a volatile world and left it to be forgotten, allowing the vines and the swamp to reclaim most of what had been built.

However, in more recent years the Galactic Alliance rediscovered the planet and inadvertently exposed it to hunters and traders who wished to reclaim their lives in the wild, where there was no law of the land, and you could trust only your own instincts.

Over the years an uneasy peace has settled over the various continents, as the population never hovers above more than 100 sentients, and those in one group generally prefer to stick to their own kind, rather than form new alliances, or mingle with mysterious visitors.

The days are short, the nights are shorter, and the hardy individuals who have lived here for decades proudly call themselves “Vel-Orins” - regardless of creed - and it is generally believed that you have to be crazy to live here.
