The Varactyl was design to bring rapid fire to the world of heavy weapons. The twin barreled heavy turbolaser was design to send large amounts of fire down range, though this fire was less powerful. The system was also found to be an energy sink, and would take up much of a vessel's available power. Either way, it has become a fairly popular weapon system for those looking for rapid fire cannons.
