CONTENTS
  • The Force: through its Gatekeeper one can learn much about the different philosophies governing the Force. From the Living Force to the White Current and more. This does not necessarily teach separate techniques, instead it focuses on bringing understanding and clarity to the owner. It attempts to impart wisdom over knowledge so to speak- knowing that a tomato should not go into a fruit salad, if not necessarily teaching that said tomato is a fruit. This leaves a lot of the 'studying' and 'discovering' to the owner, which is why the Great Pilgrimage is prominently featured through its lessons. The journey itself teaches what the holocron cannot.
  • Cartography: The Holocron has been embedded with a self-regulating map of the Galaxy, further detailed in the strengths section.
Strengths:
  • Robust: Much like most alchemized artifacts, the Holocron is quite resistant to most conventional methods of destruction.
  • Cartographer: It's creator or perhaps one of its later owners was an avid explorer of the Galaxy. Through their travel they have meticulously detailed hyperlanes, nebula, planets, other astronomical objects. But more importantly the map has places of power marked- Force Nexus, strange vergences or anamolies, possible locations holding troves of treasure. Whoever created the map was very well-traveled.
  • Self-regulating: It possesses an innate connection with the Living Force and is capable of updating its map to account for stellar drift, catastrophic events and other shifts that can be picked up through the Force.
  • Knowledgeable: Its gatekeeper knows more than it lets on and can serve as a guide. Sometimes.
Weaknesses:
  • Gatekeeper: Rather than being slivers of past Sith Lords or Dark Jedi Masters, the Gatekeeper is a spirit anchored to the core of the Holocron. It maintains an extensive review of the current owner of the holocron, waiting, teaching just enough, until the day comes that it will try to steal the current holder's body for itself.
  • Restricted: Unlike most Sith Holocrons this one is severely limited in how much information and knowledge it is willing to divulge to its wielder. Regulated by its Gatekeeper it practically forces the wielder to go on a grand pilgrimage throughout the Galaxy. Only in certain places will it be willing to teach the owner its secrets. This seems to be linked to the places where the Gatekeeper itself learned the knowledge, seeing as it seems to recognize some of the visited places.
  • The Light: Force Light and other similar effects are capable of turning the holocron inert. In this state it is possible to destroy the Holocron- the spirit within can be cleansed and all knowledge will be lost. Except for the map itself, unless the crystal lattices are corrupted/destroyed as well.
  • Force-Null: The same goes for ysalamir or other force nullification methods. It will turn the holocron into nothing more than a paperweight. Too long and the spirit within will be destroyed as well.

DESCRIPTION
On Arkania, amidst ruins and collapsed caverns, Itash Mecetti began a long (and expensive) process of excavating an ancient Sith Library lost to time. One of the objects he uncovered was the Holocron of Mysteries- which is how he dubbed it himself once the Tapani managed to unlock its functionality and discovered the depths of its knowledge. Unknown to him, the Holocron was the last resting place of an ancient Dark Jedi Master's spirit.

This spirit appeared as a Givin calling itself Vaneesh and posed as the Gatekeeper of said Holocron. Its intentions are not entirely clear, but it seemed to be preparing the arrogant Tapani nobleman as its new host body.

But only after the human was ready, of course.

It hammers home the importance of following the Great Pilgrimage, a vast journey throughout the Galaxy and guided by the extensive maps of the holocron itself, to study and learn and become more powerful. Apparently this was an important facet of study in the era Vaneesh was born.

Whenever that was.

The Givin is becoming increasingly more restless and frustrated how little importance Tash is giving to this journey.
