STRENGTHS

Long Lives | The average lifespan of the Vané lasts roughly 520 Velorian Standard Years [VSY = 1.7 GSY]. By the time they reach adulthood, most have seen and experienced more than those with shorter lifespans. They use their to acquire knowledge and experience both life’s grandeur and its small wonders.
See What’s The Word weakness and Satisfaction Brought It Back strength.
Regeneration | Boasting a natural ability to heal wounds, the Vané are a robust species. Cuts and nicks may be fully healed within minutes. Deeper cuts may take longer to heal and may still require professional medical attention beyond what the body can naturally repair. Grievous injuries, such as a broken bone, sliced organ, or collapsed veins, may not be healed via natural regeneration. These will require immediate medical attention as soon as possible. Some may even learn to direct the flow of this healing process.
See Thin Skin & Training Required weakness.
Fast Metabolism | Over thousands of years, the Vané have honed their physical bodies through hunting, athletics, and war. Through continued use of muscles and adapting to rugged terrain, they have come to have fast metabolisms in order to be able to process nutrients at a rate faster than the average Human. This also means that they sport a higher endurance when their bodies are properly fueled.
See Hungry Hippo & Weight Instability weaknesses.
Elemental Masters | Taught by the Shapers of Kro Var during The Enlightenment circa 995 BBY, the Vané have trained and, eventually, learned to master the elements via use of the Symmetry (The Force). Typically, an individual may only master two of the natural four elements in their long lifetimes. Minor disciplines regarding traditional use of the Force as the wider Galaxy knows it are now allowed through a recent decree by the ruling monarch and sitting members of the Primordial Council. However, mastery over the elements may fade over time due to lack of usage as one becomes older and reaches the Virðuð stage of life.
See Unseen Effects weakness.
Touched By The Gods | Though uncommon, there are some Vané who are said to be touched by the gods. This manifests by way Force visions, knowledge of the past and present, guidance from the celestials offered through them. It is estimated that only 3-4% of the population have these visions. While that may be a small number, the wisdom the premonitions impart upon them tend to impact the species as a whole.
See Gift or Burden weakness
Satisfaction Brought It Back | Vané are curious beings, always searching for the next bit of information to feed their love of all things academia. They have a knack for retaining information that they learn, absorbing any knowledge like sponges. Professions that involve the collection, retention, and distribution of knowledge are highly valued within Vané society. Since the start of the Age of Brilliance, which began circa 850 ABY, the Vané have seen a sharp spike in innovation, critical thinking, science, and a healthy stress on the importance of education.
See Curiosity Killed The Cat & What’s The Word weaknesses.

WEAKNESSES

Thin Skin | Although Vané have regenerative properties, their skin is slightly thinner than that of Humans. Obviously, this results in an increase in common injuries because the skin is easier to breach or cut. This trait also results in a susceptibility to cold temperatures. Adaptations can be made by those who live in the arctic regions of Velorum, but gear designed to retain heat is often still needed in order to maintain average body heat levels.
Hungry Hippo| Due to the energy expended naturally to maintain their muscular physique, the Vané’s bodies require more fuel than other species. They maintain a much higher calorie count, usually eating five large meals throughout the day to feel satisfied. However, because their society has thrived on whole foods for so long, they possess an allergy to processed foods; most of the time it’s mild, though there are a few cases of anaphylaxis.
Gift or Burden? | Though they are seen are blessed, many who possess this gift feel as though it is a curse instead. In weaker Vané, the visions can be accompanied by bodily effects such as nausea, sleep disturbances, and even seizures. However, even in stronger ones the gift still requires sacrifice; They often fall victim to mental plights like hallucinations (audio and visual), paranoia, severe dissociation, and depression.
Unseen Effects | Because of the teachings of rogue members of the Shapers of Kro Var, the Vané have an ingrained sense of wariness regarding Force Users that use abilities that cannot be seen, such as mentalism. While the current Keisari is working to lift and dissolve these notions, not all are receptive to giving up this way of thinking, mostly out of fear and hysteria that remains decades after the final years of the Aeon of Illusions.
Weight Instability | Due to the fast metabolism of the species, most Vané find it hard to gain weight. Scientists often contribute this to the level of exercise and the typical diet of the species. Filled with hardy meats and slow burning starches, Vané typically have plenty of energy to last several hours, a trait that is helpful considering their long diurnal routines. High levels of physical exercise see that the Vané stay fit and active, effectively burning off what calories they do take in for nutrients and leaving little in the way of fat beyond what is used as a natural cushion for the body.
Curiosity Killed The Cat | The Vané are extremely curious, to a fault. They will often do anything for the gain of more knowledge, which may put them in dangerous or even harmful positions. Their obsession with knowledge is an addiction at best and it may often manifest in bouts or episodes of hyperfixation, which may result in temporary malnutrition, dehydration, and lack of general self care.
Training Required | Vané may learn to subtly influence the regeneration processes with proper teaching. This skill, however, is restricted to those who are Force Sensitive. It requires years of training under experienced Masters of the ability. However, even once the skill is learned, serious injury still is not something that may be healed via this method. This will only hasten the process of natural healing.
What’s The Word? | For Vané who make it to the Gamall age range, many individuals encounter mild forms of aphasia. They begin losing the ability to speak or thoroughly comprehend words. It normally begins as small missteps in conversation, but can devolve into total loss of language skills. Occasionally, physicians and patients may see spontaneous recovery in which the brain heals itself, though it is very rare. More often, the development requires management of the condition until end of life with medical treatment such as speech pathology or, in the majority of cases, a personal translator.

CULTURE

Diet | Omnivore
  • Typical Diet ~ Consists heavily of meats and starches to fuel the high levels of energy that the average Vané burns through physical activity, those are usually the main portions in a typical diet. Vegetables and fruits are stressed as well, especially leafy greens, to ensure a proper nutritional balance. Vané eat roughly 5 - 6 meals a day in comparison to the average 3 per Human. Desserts are commonplace, but the extremely sweet ones are saved for special occasions. The Vané believe that everything is good in moderation.
  • Allergies ~ Vané cannot eat ultra-processed foods both due to a lack of exposure to them on their homeworld of Velorum and also because of the additives, to include high sugar amounts and unnatural preservatives. Because of the all natural and organic diet of the Vané on Velorum, ultra-processed foods may cause acne and mild stomach discomfort in small amounts. Large amounts over extended periods of time may result in an unhealthy weight gain, chronic fatigue, and a high risk of cardiac arrest.
Communication | Body Language | Sign Language | Verbal
  • Har Resyn’eth ~ Derived from the old language, Har Resyn’eth is a combination of sharper consonants and rounded vowel sounds. It is more in line with the grammatics of Galactic Basic, easily translated to the language. Because of the complexity of the language, it is often left to scholars, librarians, teachers, nobility, and sages to learn. It may be found on official documentation or decrees. It is the official tongue of the Velorian Court.
  • Resyn’eth ~ Resyn’eth is believed to be practiced by the Founders themselves, introduced first by Echor Akí when he came to Velorum as Einar Caeli’runa, the first Keisari. It features hardened consonants and vowels, which often vary in pronunciation from region to region. It is not as easily compared to Basic and is often misinterpreted because of the variations and deviations from the second official language of the Vané.
  • Vetra’Grunn ~ Translating literally to Galactic Key in Resyn’eth, Vetra’Grunn is, of course, Galactic Basic. With the introduction of the fourth Keisari, Ylla Caeli’runa, the language quickly gained popularity as explorers left Velorum and brought back the “key” to the Galaxy in the form of knowledge. Galactic Basic was quickly integrated into all levels of learning, from the basic schooling to the higher echelons of academia on Velorum. All are encouraged to learn the “key to the Galaxy”, in order to stay abreast with current events and to avoid unwanted scenarios as they step onto the galactic scene. Vetra’Grunn was officially adopted as the second official language of Velorum in 862 ABY.
  • Handamál ~ Developed as a way to communicate with elders who suffer from aphasia, Handamál is meant to bridge the proverbial and, often, literal language barrier between the afflicted Gammal and their younger fellows. Developed by Ásdís Degheidr in 863 ABY, Handamál encompasses words from both Har Resyn’eth and Resyn’eth in order that the diseased may speak with their community, friends, and kin via hand movements and facial expressions. Handamál, as of 864 ABY, does not fully encompass Vetra’Grunn, making communication difficult with specialized translator droids or an accompanying Vané who may translate on behalf of the elder.
Technology Level | Galactic Standard
  • With the rise of the fourth Keisar in 862 ABY, the Vané have known no limits to what they are capable of achieving when they are not fighting amongst each other, united by a messenger from the caeli (gods). With federally funded exploration missions, the Vané are eager to touch Sindrani, the goddess of stars and constellations. With their discoveries, they’ve brought back with them new knowledge, including system and anthropology reports and catalogues. Using this new knowledge and modern technology, they’ve begun to expand on it, pushing it to new heights and testing the limits of both machines and men.

Societal Norms
  • Gender Identity: Vané children aren’t assigned a binary gender at birth. To do so is said to limit the child’s perspective and to cripple their potential by designating an assigned role to them before they are even aware enough to make sound decisions. To this effect, the Vané simply call children, children. Often in Resyn’eth, children are called xauon, a synonym for innocent one in Galactic Basic. On their first nameday, when the child is roughly 16 suns old, they may choose their own identities, to include pronouns according to what feels right to each individual. The Vané may change their identity as often or as little as they please and these changes must be strictly adhered to, for doing otherwise is a slight against the individual and their House.
  • Vegsur: Respect and admiration of one’s leaders and mentors, Vegsur is a general guideline for customs and courtesies that Velorum’s inhabitants are raised to follow. This particular type of honor is the most versatile within the culture, ranging from professional relations in the workplace to even the simplest of strangers that happens to leave an imprint on one’s life. Vegsur embodies hospitality, gratefulness, cooperation, and autonomy, allowing for an ever present exchange of information, talents, and techniques in exchange for the enrichment of all parties involved. The principle extends to every Vané on Velorum, from the Keisari to the most humble of Velorum’s citizens. Though it may be easily mistaken for common courtesy to outsiders, its roots extend back to a time when Echor themself ruled over the first Vané. They established a moral code with which to build the most effective community and Vegsur has simply endured the millenia through both a mutual social contract and Echor’s guiding hand. Should one invoke Vegsur, it often signifies a break in trust and honor that is not easily mended. To make an individual feel unsafe or uncomfortable enough to force them to invoke the ancient code is often a sign of the highest shame and it may even be grounds for exile in extreme cases.
  • Vegsmed: A world that embodies the concept of respect for one’s elders, this moral code calls for all Vané to show deference to those that are older than them until the individual gives them reason not to. An internal system of checks and balances for both familial and community health, respect is given where it is due and only when it is due.
Aet’runas (The Bloodlines)
  • With interspecies breeding being nonexistent on Velorum, all Vané are currently able to claim a pure and undiluted aet’runa. Vané may trace their lineage back to one of the Founders and any Keisari may trace all of their predecessors back to the time of Echor. Bloodlines are integral to all Velorians, giving them a sense of identity, purpose, community, and direction. When marriage takes place, both individuals have the option to make the other’s surname their middle name. While this change is not required in the legalization process, it has become an accepted practice. Aet’runas are named for the first of their name and are often structured as follows: [Name]’runa. The suffix of -runa is often translated as “bloodline of” or “descent of”. However, It may be commonly regarded as a "House" or "Clan". Those of the same aet’runa will have common ancestors, be it through blood, adoption, or marriage. The only exception to this mechanism is the Keisari. Their surname has always been Caeli’runa, meaning the Descent of the Gods. None of the Keisari have ever been related in known history. All Keisari are believed to be reincarnated and reborn into different aet’runas seemingly at random. Vané may also go by their ancestor's name, effectively dropping the -runa suffix. This is a common practice and it is considered acceptable by all, with the sole exception of the Descent of the Gods. To shorten Caeli'runa is to dishonor and disavow the gods.
Some of the most prominent aet’runas include:
  • Caeli'runa
  • Sauret’runa
  • Kathel’runa
  • Qi’runa
  • Gul’runa
  • Hest’runa

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

[ Include a description of the species history here. If your species is genetically engineered or Sithspawn please describe the process through which they were created, by who, and why. Explain the various challenges encountered during their creation. Most galactic species will be quite old - include major events relevant to the species in how they evolved and developed into what they are today where appropriate. Including Chaos canon events, where they impacted the history of this species, is a plus. ]
