Valoria Elryne

  • ---------- See images -------->>

    > APPEARANCE <
Young. Twi'lek. Padawan. Valoria's skin has a pale green tone, with white highlights, most specifically on her Lekku. Her eyes are a deep, emerald green, yet still carry that youthful spark.

You'll often find her dressed in either the traditional 'Jedi robes,' or wearing a murky-green hooded shawl with protective gear underneath. The latter outfit is for when she needs to blend in somewhere, become nothing but another face in the crowd.

    > INVENTORY <
Two single bladed Lightsabers (One green, one blue) (WIP)

  • > STRENGTHS <
    - Since the incident with her former master, she won't leave someone's side if they're in an unfortunate situation, even if the opportunity presents itself. Rather, she'll see it through to the end. This loyalty is partially driven by fear rooted in her past experiences.

    - Compassion. She cares for people when others don't. It can be a double-bladed sword sometimes, but most of the time it's a skill/trait that's in her favour.

    - She's reached a relatively intermediate level in most areas of the force. Specialises in lightsaber combat (Form V, Shien) and Force concealment.

    - Her compassion makes her ideal for handling the civilian welfare side of things. Looking to become a Jedi Sentinal.

    > WEAKNESSES <
    - Due to the gap in her training, she's fallen slightly behind. She's not at the level she's expected to be at her point in her training.

    - Relies too heavily on the force (Can barely hold her own in face-to-face combat without the force or her lightsabers.)

    - Heavy ridden with guilt, which often affects her judgement of situations. She's almost blinded by her own guilt. It prevents her from taking initiative in situations where if she had, the outcome would have been a whole lot better.

    - Bad judge in character.

  • >PERSONALITY<
Valoria considers herself a very just person. She always tries to do what's right, even if it turns out to not be quite as good as she originally thought (Which sadly, happens more often than not.) She's also kind of naive. It's not that she doesn't know stuff. She knows plenty enough to survive on her own. She just tries to help the wrong people. Lets her guard down at the wrong times.

    >BELIEFS<
Due to the incident, she will likely never leave her master (if and when she finally gets a new one) in that style again. If there is to be a fight, she will stand with them no-matter what they tell her to do. This could be seen as either loyalty or a fear of repeating her past mistakes.

However, she's also come to learn that she should trust her higher ups, as they have more experience and often know what they're talking about. In hindsight, she can see that perhaps Maya told her to leave because otherwise they'd both end up dead. Although she does hold a small grudge against the Jedi council. Which is fair enough, considering they have kept her waiting for months. It doesn't change the level of respect she holds for them by any means. She just finds them irritating sometimes.

There is much of the galaxy that she has not seen. She is always eager to travel to a new planet and see it's terrain for herself.

  • Valoria was born and grew up on the planet of Ryloth. She spent the first few years of her life there in relative happiness. Her family was relatively well off. They always had food on the table and fresh clothes to wear every day. There was nothing to complain about.

When she was three, she was found and taken in by the New Jedi Order. They took her back to the temple and taught her everything a youngling such as herself would need to know. Her life carried on without drama - She made friends, stayed on top of her training, proving her worth over and over again. The years went by.

Finally, the day came when she was able to officially begin her Padawan training.

Fourteen years old, and ready to face the world, she was taken on by a Jedi Knight, Maya Posavki, to be her Padawan. Being the person she spent almost all her time with, she came to develop a strong connection with her Master. She cared for their wellbeing, their views, their opinions of her. As every Padawan does, she looked to Maya for guidance.

The next two years passed, once again, with little hardship on Valoria. There was more pressure on her to succeed in her assignments, real lives at stake and more urgent tasks. At times, things did get a little stressful. That was to be expected. But it didn't hold her back. She was dedicated to doing her best, proving her worth in every way she could.

It was only after those two years had come and gone that disaster first struck her life.

Valoria had been on a journey with her Master. It was only supposed to be a supply delivery to a group whose usual trade paths and roads had been cut off. Nothing more, nothing less. When they landed, however, they found that the situation was much worse than initially anticipated. The small group there had been overrun by the opposition. Valoria and Maya didn't go unnoticed for very long before they were under attack. They were completely overwhelmed.

Maya told Valoria to get herself out of the fight. She knew that it was an impossible situation. The best Maya could do was get Valoria out alive. Valoria refused at first, not wanting to leave her side, but eventually she gave in. Concealing herself from sight, she saw the rest of it play out.

To this day she still wonders if things could have played out differently if she'd helped rather than hiding as she'd been told.

Maya died that day. Valoria managed to get back to their vessel in one piece and navigate off the surface without crashing. She made her way back to the Jedi Temple on Tython, landing the ship with much less elegance than she should've (It went plummeting into the treetops).

When she was brought back to the temple, she explained what happened with haste. There was layer upon layer of emotion coming from her. Sadness. Annoyance. Guilt. Especially guilt. Enough emotion to cause the Jedi council to question if she should carry on with her training.

Since that incident, it has taken a lot of effort on her behalf to convince the council that she is still capable of learning the Jedi way. The guilt she felt (and still feels) is immeasurable. Her situation is yet to be addressed formerly, as the council have more important things to worry about than some Padawan who's stability is supposedly at risk. Instead, they simply put her training on a standstill. Valoria was planet bound, restricted to the Jedi temple. And it's been that way for the past six months.

  • >MENTORS<
    Maya Posavki (NPC) (Deceased)
Former Jedi Master to Valoria. Maya took Valoria on as her Padawan whilst Valoria was still the crisp young age of fourteen. For a little over two years, she tutored and mentored Valoria. Most of Valoria's current knowledge is credited to her.
Maya died to allow Valoria a chance of escape. Valoria quite literally owes her life to Maya, something she won't be forgetting any time soon.

    >FAMILY<
Luisa and Bryce Elryne (NPC's) (Parents)
Valoria's relation with them is very mutual. Most of her good memories of them are half-joined three-year-old memories from before anyone knew she was force sensitive. As it is, her parents are glad that she's got a future beyond their simple life, but they make little effort to reach out to her now. Her mother, Luisa, still cares about and loves her, but her father is less forthcoming. It didn't help that they'd only been around her properly for about one sixth of her life. She used to visit them occasionally, and there were never any hard feelings between them, but it was never particularly warm. Valoria now held a grudge against them after realising the real reason she had a sister. If she were to visit again, it would be entirely to see her sister.
Neither of them are force sensitive or have any known relation to the force. They have both spent their whole life on Ryloth, just living the simple, quiet life. They are perfectly content with their life and wouldn't want anything different.

    Gisele Elryne (NPC) (Sister)
Thirteen years old, Valoria doesn't know her very well. In many ways, Gisele was almost a replacement for Valoria after she was taken off to the New Jedi Order. Obviously, her parents wanted her to join the Order, but at the same time, they still wanted to raise a child properly. As you can imagine, when Valoria realised this, she was not very happy about it. Even so, she doesn't hold it against her sister. They don't know each other well simply because Valoria doesn't get time to stay in contact enough. Not to mention her recent planet restriction has also blocked off her use of comms, so she couldn't contact them if she wanted to.
    Non force sensitive

    >FRIENDS/ACQUIANTANCES<
    Kas Larsen (Friend)
After briefly meeting Kas at an organised padawan activity, Valoria visited him after hearing he had been placed in the medical bay. She was hesitant at first, but the two soon became steady friends. Anything she held against him soon faded into the distance. He seemed to bring a new light to her situation.

    Ilaria Morvayne (Acquiantance)
Valoria isn't so certain about Ilaria yet. Ilaria approached her through a letter, not saying anything specific, simply offering deeper understanding. Even now, Valoria views Ilaria with caution. But she knows that Ilaria has much to show her and is trying to approach it with an open mindset.

> MEMORY LOG <

  • Valoria's recollection of what happened on the day that her former Master (Maya Posavki) passed away.

This is more for personal reference than anything, so that I have a basis for when I need to refer back to this event. Just so everything stays consistent, as this event will likely influence Valoria a lot further down the track.

Still feel free to read though!

  • "It's so quiet…" Valoria mused as they made their way to the centre of the small settlement. Her Master walked before her, having a very similar train of thought. Not only was it quiet. It was a little too quiet. Something definitely felt off.

Usually, even in this small, out of orbit town, there was some sign of life. An infant's wailing that could be heard over the eaves. A young couple laughing as they slipped into a small crevice between the buildings. A mother convincing her reluctant child to come back inside the house. But today it was devoid of its usual activity.

"Stay close to me." Maya told her, voice hushed, her pace slowing as they drew nearer to the centre. Valoria's eyes flickered to her Master in concern. Even she could feel that something was off. "And stay alert. I don't know what to expect."

The pair lapsed into silence as they walked, no noise audible besides their feet against the ground, and their breath in their ears. Everything was stilled, as if the entire planet was just waiting for something to occur. Valoria had been here a few times before. The supply lines that usually ran to this place had been cut off, so Maya and herself had been delivering monthly supplies and checking on how the people were faring. It was a good way for Valoria to get in some experience with working with civilians.

A small movement drew Maya's attention. If she'd blinked, she would have missed it. But she hadn't, and she now had eyes on the situation. Or, at the least, some sort of idea as to what was going on.

"Did you see that?" Valoria asked under her breath. Maya glanced sideways at her, silently impressed. She hadn't expected Valoria to pick up on it so readily. Maya didn't reply verbally, instead opting to give a nod of her head. That was enough to tell Valoria to remain silent. More movement, this time to their left. Valoria's hand went to subconsciously hover by one of her lightsaber hilts. The tension was in the air. She knew it was coming, sooner or later. It wasn't a question of if. It was a question of when.

They'd continued moving into the settlement regardless of their company. To Maya's logic, if you knew the enemy was there, but the enemy didn't know that you knew, you held advantage of the situation. Although Valoria was soon wishing that they'd stopped walking a while back. The further they went, the more the stench grew. The thick, suffocating scent of flesh. And that could only mean one thing...

"Maya. Are they... They're all... gone. Aren't they?" Valoria asked, genuine sorrow in her tone.

"Don't dwell on it too long. If you dwell on every life lost, you'll spend a millennium doing so." Maya told her without a break in her stride. Valoria lapsed into silence again. She did not like this. Not one bit. The silence didn't last long this time.

  • A blaster fire shatters it, breaking through the stillness in the air like a knife through butter. It rang in Valoria's ears, revibrating off their surroundings. It was a good thing Maya's reflexes were faster than her own, or else that shot would have pierced her skull. Valoria drew both her sabers in no time, deflecting the multitude of shots that were suddenly being sent their way. Maya moved to stand at Valoria's back, so that they could each protect the other.

There was more than Maya had originally anticipated. Somehow, they must've got word that a pair of Jedi visited this place monthly. It had been less than thirty seconds and Maya could already tell this was a losing battle. It didn't matter how good either of them were. They were simply outnumbered, to an extent at which any chances of victory were minimal.

She made her decision right then and there. Maya would get Valoria out safely. No matter what.

"Ria, I need you to do as I say, okay?" Maya said over the noise. "See the ally towards your right?"

"Yeah?" Valoria glanced that way momentarily before bringing her attention back to deflecting the bolts. She wasn't entirely sure what that had to do with anything.

"It appears to be free of the opposition. When I tell you to, I want you to go through there and not look back." Maya told her.

"What? No. I'm not leaving you."

    "Do you understand?"

"No. You can't fight them alone." Valoria protested, not willing to accept what was being asked of her.

"Don't worry about me. I can hold my own. But I need to know that you'll be safe. Okay?"

She could have continued to argue, but Valoria knew this was no time for it. "Okay."

Maya gave a small sigh of relief at that. Now she just had to wait for an opening long enough for Valoria to split. The dynamic between the two was obvious. Which meant their opposition would deal with her first. Not Valoria. Valoria would have time. The girl was too young to die in some ambushed squabble. There was still a life ahead for her.

There. A small cease in the fire. A brief window of time in which things had slowed.

"Ria, Go." Maya said over the ruckus. When Valoria didn't move right away, she raised her voice. "Now!"

  • There was another moment of hesitation from Valoria before she went into action.

She ducked across the space, headed for the alley Maya had pointed out before. A few stray shots followed after her, but seemingly in the eyes of whoever was attacking, she was a less valuable target. Or something like that.

Soon enough, she'd reached the temporary safety the alley provided.

Maya had told her to keep going. Not look back.

Despite that, Valoria couldn't help herself. She needed to make sure Maya made it out too.

Valoria watched from the shadows of the alley, concealed from the opposition's thoughts for the time being.

At first it seemed Maya would be able to hold out. Her movements were fluid, flowing from one motion to the next. It was times like these that really reminded Valoria why her master held the position she did.

And yet, it didn't take a genius to know that Maya was completely and hopelessly overwhelmed. Sometimes it didn't matter how good you were. Sometimes the odds piled against you were simply too great. To the point where survival would only be the result of a real-life miracle.

    Valoria knew all that.

But it didn't stop the anguish from rippling through her as Maya was struck square in the chest.

    The world seemed to slow.

Their eyes made contact for a moment.

Valoria saw no fear there. Only peace.

Maya had come to terms with the fact that this would likely be the last place she made a stand the moment they'd set foot in this settlement. Something about the place had told her so.

But that didn't mean it hurt any less for her Padawan.

In the same moment, Valoria saw a flicker of something deeper. Pride, perhaps, or something akin to it.

There was a moment where everything went quiet. Maya gave a subtle nod, a silent yet heavy farewell.

Then Valoria forced herself to turn away, and the world came rushing in again.

She didn't need to look back again to know Maya now lay motionless against the dust.

  • Valoria wished she'd done something, anything to try prevent the situation. But it didn't matter now. She was too late.

"Find the other one. She can't have gone far." Voices drifted from the open space towards her hiding place.

Right. She wasn't safe yet. And if she got herself killed now, her master's sacrifice would have been in vain.

Forcing her legs to co-operate, she retreated down through the alley, gaining as much distance as she could. This time, she didn't look back. Simply focused on placing one foot before the other. She reached the other side of the space, glancing at the surrounds before emerging from the safety of the two buildings.

Cautiously, she made her way down the street, headed for the outskirts of the small settlement.

There was only one instance where she was almost found, due to pure blindness on her own behalf. Despite her efforts to focus, her mind kept wandering back to what had just happened, each time bringing with it a new wave of emotion. Which brought with it a whole new level of challenge.

Valoria, for a mere moment, wasn't paying attention to the way forward. Two of the opposition rounded the corner ahead.

If one of them hadn't accidentally knocked a canister on their way around, Valoria would have been none the wiser and it would have been endgame for her.

Thankfully, their foot did come in contact with the canister, resulting in an echoing noise that snapped Valoria out of her mind. She was left with enough time to duck between a few crates.

Huddled in the crammed space, she subconsciously held her breath, listening as their footsteps came and went. She continued to move the second the coast was clear.

Without further error, she made it back to the shuttle.

  • Valoria was just about one of the worst pilots out there. She understood the basics, the minimum requirements, and that was about it.

Fumbling in her rush, she pressed the wrong buttons and flipped the wrong switches at least a hundred times before she got it right.

Valoria sat back for a moment. She needed to. She wasn't thinking clearly. Wasn't thinking at all. Simply trying to get off this planet as fast as possible. Slowly, she took a deep breath in. And out. And in again. Clearing her mind the way she'd been taught.

Right. Time to get out of there.

She placed both hands on the controls, lifting the vessel up off the planet's surface. It rose, a little unsteadily, into the sky.

Valoria didn't need to be great at flying. She just needed to be good enough.

After leaving the planet's atmosphere, she double checked the hyperspace co-ordinates she'd entered. Then checked them once more just to be certain. It was only once she entered hyperspace and could put the vessel on autopilot that she let herself get lost to the emotions she'd been keeping at bay.

Her vision went blurry as she buried her head in her hands.

That had really just happened. Maya was really gone.

The thought was crippling. Valoria hadn't been prepared for this. She thought for certain that she'd have longer. It had never once crossed her mind that something like this could happen.

Now that the floodgates had opened, they didn't stop for a long time.

There was one thought that kept circling in her mind. A thought that she still carried with her to this very day.

What if I'd done something to prevent it instead of watching from the sidelines?

Would things have turned out differently if I had?

    Would she still be alive?
