Before Formation:
Flight Sergeant Thanith Gumara was an Imperial pilot waiting for assignment to a squadron. Initially he took on some freelance work to get in enough hours to keep his flight status and earn a few credits. It was not what he wanted to be doing but it paid the bills and allowed him to keep his wings. After a period of time however he was not satisfied playing shuttle jockey. He went back to Command and once again requested assignment only to be turned away.
The Battle of Atrisia:
Announcement of the conquest of Artrisia was a spurning moment for Thanith. He noticed the Navy despite Atrisia being a world ripe for Naval operations was left out of the plans. It was the final straw for Thanith. Going to the barracks the Flight Sergeant rounded up as many pilots as he could. More than a few like him were waiting for assignments. Taking the initiative Thanith grabbed them and commandeered 12 Elite Starfighters.
They immediately jumped to Atrisia quickly finding out they had bitten off more than they could chew. Thanith immediately requested additional support staring down not one but two enemy squadrons it was a call that would go unanswered.
Valkyrie Squadron fought hard. In a move most would call foolish Thanith ordered the squadron to split into two flights. His second in command on that mission call sign Valkyrie 6 took 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 12 to the station objective to assault the station and secure the objective.
Thanith along with Valkyrie's 2, 3, 4, and 5 stayed in space to hold off the enemy fighters so that 6 could secure the objective. In the ensuing battle Thanith's flight was overwhelmed and destroyed leaving Thanith alone to hold off the enemy. Hearing a distress call from 6 inside the station after the death of Valkyrie 9 on the station Thanith in a Kamikaze move corkscrewed his fighter into the station. There he would rejoin the rest of the squadron and secure the objective.
Upon return to Headquarters Thanith fully expected to be tossed in prison for stealing Imperial property. Instead Valkyrie was ailed as hero's and the Squadron officially formed as an attack squadron within the Imperial Navy.
The battle of Atrisia would forever haunt the survivors.
The Battle of Rakata Prime:
The battle of Rakata Prime was a much different story for Valkyrie Squadron. Not only were they now an official part of the Imperial Navy as active Pilots but the addition of support from a Flight of Gunboats under the Command of Flight Corporal Kyra Proga made sure it was not the massacre that Atrisia was. Valkyrie would in the end engage offending forces in an effort to clear the way for the main fleet and establish a no fly zone while the planet was brought under One Sith control.
War Fleet Hellhammer:
After Rakata Prime Valkyrie Squadron was assigned to a War Fleet. War Fleet Hell hammer based out of Balmorra became the home of the Squadron. Reporting to there new Fleet assignment would prove the second time Thanith put himself at risk for the sake of his men. This time instead of the enemy Thanith went to bat for hsi men against the Sith Warlord of the Navy and Hellhammer's Fleet Admiral. It was a move that should have killed his career and ended Valkyrie Squadron.
Shadows of Telti:
Sector War Fleets Hellhammer and Avarice gather near the border of One Sith and Republic space as a show of force to combat suspicious that the Imperial Armada was defunct and non-existent.
Rumors have been floating around the Navy that is was all a cover for a Covert recon mission into republic space lead by Valkyrie Squadron. Command however refuses to acknowledge the rumor even exists much less respond to it.
