  • OVERVIEW

Vahdagr 'Dag' Rekali is a member and scion of Clan Rekali, an insular people largely absent from the galactic fabric for much of the last half-century.

Raised in Ashurin Rekali culture, a culture forged by exile, merit, and disciplined survival, Dag is part of one of the first generations in his clan born and raised entirely after Ra Vizsla's purge, a harrowing event instigated when Dag's father was a still a boy, just short of undergoing his rite.

In 900 ABY, at the age of twenty five, Dag ventured out, seeking to test himself beyond Rekali culture and infrastructure, and to understand the galaxy as it is, compared to what was. Now, four years after departing the nebular region he calls home, Dag is leaving what is currently Mando-Imperial territory, and going further afield...

  • HISTORY

    Part 1: Beginnings

Vahdagr Rekali was born in 875 ABY in Port Elijah on Ashuri, the hidden Rekali homeworld within the Hard Roil, to Rhyen and Asha Rekali. Raised across Port Elijah, Aaralyn Province (so named after his late grandmother), and the Gravewalk, Dag grew up immersed in Rekali culture, which is a synthesis of Mandalorian echoes, Vahla rites, and Dathomiri pragmatism.

From the time he could walk, Dag was trained and educated extensively in armed and unarmed combat, survival disciplines, and the Rekali way of life, but because his majority Vahla heritage resulted in somewhat mild hypermobility, it required deliberate physical conditioning to ensure joint strength and stability, laying the foundation for a good life by Rekali standards. This more than enabled him to complete the rite of passage at thirteen and be recognized as an adult, as a member of the part of Rekali culture that honoured those Mandalorian echoes of the past.

From that time of physical adolescence, when he wasn't sweating at the forge, or party to a hunt, he was learning to navigate the Hard Roil routes through discipline and repetition, and aided by his burgeoning talent in instinctive astrogation, which was one of his few major strengths in the Force. This had the effect of also making a good pilot and navigator out of him in general, all in preparation for the outward path he sought to take, when his body was done maturing.

But during those years, he met and began a long-term relationship with his first love, Suryi, delaying his departure longer than planned, though he could never quite give up the yearning for that path. Instead he began to try and convince Suryi to come with him, but as time had went on, her path became more deeply rooted in Ashuri, and they grew apart. Their relationship culminated in a separation that was nothing short of amicable, marking the closing of one chapter, and the beginning of the next.

    Part 2: Venturing Out

In 900 ABY, at twenty-five years of age, Dag departed Ashuri, with the knowledge of family, friends, and Chief Alec Rekali, though not without gathering with them to mark the occasion before setting out. He left the Hard Roil, and The Roil surrounding it, starting his time in the greater galaxy by visiting the sites of his clan’s traditional holdings in the Gordian Reach, adapting to life in the outside galaxy, and finding his way over the next few years.

The Mandalorian groups that sprung up, warred, and waned during this time in the traditional territories and beyond are little more than a curiosity to Dag, who like many Rekali doesn’t typically identify himself as Mandalorian because of clan memory. They are something that he declines to get swept up in, outside of taking the business they offer, and remaining otherwise content to mind his own business... until a new Mandalorian Empire arrived.

Knowing the history of what happened to his father, forebears, and Clan under Ra Vizsla, his successors, and their alliance with the Sith Empire, Dag views Mandalorian Imperialism with a hefty dose of suspicion, and limits his interactions with it. Soon enough, his distrust is proven apt, when the so-called Mand’alor the Iron deals in brutal crucifixion of the Empire’s enemies. To Dag, growing up in Rekali culture as he did, this overt display most assuredly crossed a line.

And so, after the last of his visits, which was his time on Dathomir, Dag left the region and went further afield in the galaxy.

  • APPEARANCE
Standing at 6’7” (2 metres), Dag is hard to miss in a crowd. Most notice his size fist, then his violet eyes... if they aren't just clocking the entirety of the bronze-skinned mountain of a guy.

Broad-shouldered and long-limbed, Dag has a lean, muscular build shaped by disciplined conditioning. His musculature is functional and flexible, rather than aesthetic alone, developed to stabilize the mild Vahla-derived hypermobility he was born with, and support endurance and control. He moves with economy for his size, and his reach grants natural advantage in close combat, while his posture projects steady presence without theatrics.

Dag's long, black hair falls to around his shoulders, and is kept back by ties and/or small braids when necessity demands it, but his facial hair is kept tidy and short. It's rare to see Dag's face utterly barren of it.

  • PERSONALITY

    Personality

Dag is calm, observant, and though he can be reserved, he is far from cold. He doesn't posture or seek validation, being rather secure in his identity and limitations, and he is comfortable with silence. He is rarely reactive without cause. Loyalty, once earned, is steady, enduring, and not easily broken.

    Risk Orientation

Raised within the Hard Roil, learning to navigate its structural challenges and hazards, and to hunt the creatures that haunt it, Dag developed a calibrated relationship to danger early in life. Chasing risk for the thrill isn’t the rule but the exception, though neither does he hesitate when risk is necessary.

    Emotional Range

Dag is capable of humor, camaraderie, and joy. He finds satisfaction in physical exertion and competition, skilled sparring, piloting challenges, and shared company grounded in mutual respect.

Contentment, for him, has historically been tied to stability and belonging, but while venturing beyond out into the Galaxy — for the most part rather unknown to him — that degree of stability has been suspended, and the moments in which his true sense of joy has appeared have been few.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

    Strengths

    ﹢ Emotional stability
    ﹢ Tactical patience
    ﹢ Environmental awareness
    ﹢ Physical discipline
    ﹢ Cultural fluency
    ﹢ Comfort operating independently

    Weaknesses

﹣ Secrecy can create relational distance
﹣ Large physical profile in combat
﹣ Hypermobility requires regular upkeep of physical conditioning
﹣ Tension between engagement and insularity

  • BELIEFS

Dag’s beliefs are shaped by Rekali culture: a pragmatic synthesis of Mandalorian tradition, Vahla spirituality, and Dathomiri mysticism. He does not follow any one doctrine in isolation, nor does he consider these traditions contradictory.

To him, they are different lenses on the same underlying reality.

    The Force & the Manda

Dag accepts the existence of the Force as a fundamental aspect of reality. He does not romanticize it, nor does he view it as hierarchical; his own Force sensitivity does not define him, it is simply part of his nature.

He understands the Manda, the Dathomiri spirit plane, and the Netherworld of the Force as overlapping interpretations of continuity beyond death. He does not claim certainty about the afterlife, but he respects the accumulated experiences of those within Clan Rekali who have walked those thresholds.

    Strength & Merit

Dag believes strength is meaningful only when disciplined and accountable. Authority must be earned, and leadership must be able to withstand challenge.

Violence, in his view, is a tool: sometimes necessary but never theatrical, and he rejects cruelty performed for spectacle or domination without merit.

    Clan & Responsibility

Dag's Rekali identity supersedes all other affiliations, like many in his clan over the past half-century.

He believes loyalty is chosen and maintained through action. He does not believe in blind allegiance, but once loyalty is given, it's not lightly withdrawn.

The secrecy of Ashuri and the Hard Roil is sacred. Protection of that secrecy is paramount.

    Risk & Survival

Raised within the Hard Roil, Dag accepts that danger is an inherent condition of existence.

He believes stability must be built, defended, and occasionally re-evaluated. Isolation ensured Rekali survival, but whether it ensures their future remains a question he quietly carries.

    Jedi & Sith

Dag’s view of Jedi ranges from cautious tolerance to cool scepticism. He recognizes discipline and restraint where they exist but does not place moral infallibility upon them.

His stance toward Sith, however, is far less flexible. Given their historic alignment with the Mandalorian Empire during the Purge and their enabling it through granting the use of the Pazhkic’dau, thereby making them complicit in the razing of his Clan at that time, his views on Sith are hostile.

    FORCE ABILITIES + COMBAT SKILLS

Dag's aptitudes in the Force were discovered through trial, error, testing, and simple happenstance. Training thereafter has come from the Holocron of Ember Rekali, both of his parents, and from other members of his Clan.

Dag is limited to being direct, in how he can interact with/affect the people and environment around him, and in combat, as his capabilities in the Force make for little in the way of skill in offense; what he does have available to him is used in conjunction with his skills in melee and arms. He also has a decent degree of understanding and experience of Dathomiri magic that runs mostly along the same lines as/is complimentary to his abilities listed below... magic which may be further detailed here, at a later date.

Click each heading to see Vahdagr's full powerset, and combat capabilities. All coloured ability names are links - click them for more information.
    Physical Enhancement
Dag's physical senses (e.g. sight, hearing, and so on), and the feats of his body (e.g. strength, speed, and so on) are attributes he is skilled at enhancing. This does not apply to the workings of his mind, however.
    • Magnify Senses, including Shadow Vision: Dag has rather keen senses, but he has no talent for Comprehend Speech or the like.
    • Enhance Attribute: Dag can enhance the performance of his body for speed, leaps, reaction time, strength (and his senses, as above), but he has no force-given ability to tank damage beyond his physical means.
    Sense-Based Abilities
Dag's strongest range in the Force, yet outside of a couple of significant strengths, Dag has little talent for sensory abilities beyond Force Sense and the enhancement of his physical senses.
    • Force Sense: In general, Dag's senses are rather attuned, both physically, and in the Force. This has lead to a strong degree of perception but he cannot glean thoughts.
    • Force Track: Couched in the Keetael tradition, as per the holocron of his Clan's founder. Dag is an excellent tracker, but this doesn't extend to the Keetael talent for farsight tracking.
    • Instinctive Astrogation: While his talent for astrogation was discovered while learning to navigate the Hard Roil, Dag is also able to find his way around pretty well on the ground.
In space, this follows typical use cases of Instinctive Astrogation at an Experienced Level, for Dag.

On the ground, Dag will either need to be familiar with a location, or refer to a guide (e.g. Directions, a map) at any point prior or during his visit to easily find his way around, but he only needs to see the map or be given the directions once. An inaccurate map will slow him down, though.

He has highly accurate navigational capability for a location or section of a location once he's mapped it, mentally, during a visit.

None of the above allows him drop in on, say, a secret hideout unless he has been given knowledge of it, or otherwise gleaned the information by normal means.
    Vahla Racial Abilities
Given that Dag's genetic makeup is majority Vahla, he is able to make some use of abilities inherent to the species.
    • Pyrokinesis: For Dag this is mild. He can accomplish things like lighting a candle, starting a fire, etc... small stuff, really, but he's no bender, not by a longshot. He has to be clever about doing much more with it.
    • Contort/Escape: While Dag has put in the effort to consciously maintain flexibility throughout his physical conditioning, he is predisposed to being able to contort himself, regardless. The maintenance of his flexibility simply makes the pain of contortion less than it would be otherwise.
    Combat
The brunt of Dag's combat capability is not centred on the Force, apart from physical enhancement, and clever use cases of his other Force abilities. Rather, it rests on his extensive training in the vein of his Mandalorian heritage, plus what other combat training he could take on from the holocron of Ember Rekali, his great-grandfather, outside of what he couldn't accomplish: physical manifestations of the Force such as telekinesis.
    • Beskad Combat
    • Form V, adapted to Longsword
    • Military hand-to-hand systems
    • Combat Arms - blasters, slugthrowers, etc.
    This list is not exhaustive.
