It was the rain that woke him up.

Soft patters of water trickling down his face, pooling in small places here and there. How long had he been out? How long had he been in the rain? And sitting up felt like a herculean effort in and of itself... but somehow he did. How long had he been out? Hours? Days? Months? He couldn't tell...

"....aaauugh..." His throat felt raw. Had he been screaming? "...Val? Valery?" He got to his feet, stretching a bit as he tried to feel normal again. Where was - ah.

"Valery..." he murmured, taking slow steps to where Valery was sitting. "....what.... happened? I... I remember dark... there was a lot of darkness, and almost no sounds... Someone was screaming... What happened to the Drengir?"

He looked around at the clearing, swallowing a bit as he took in the carnage. It was like looking at the actions taken by someone else... Trees lay strewn and shredded left and right, the ground gouged out in massive carving strokes. There was a blast mark from some potent surge of power - several blast marks - and lots of what looked like rotten wood strewn about everywhere. But no Drengir, none visible anyway.

Valery let out a long breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding the moment she heard his voice. Relief broke across her features as she pushed herself up from where she had been sitting, wincing faintly at the sting of her own wounds. Still, she managed a small, tired smile as she stepped toward him.

"You're alright," she said, her tone gentle, "The Drengir are gone. I dealt with them." Her orange eyes lingered on him, searching for any trace of that darkness still clinging to his presence, but what she felt now was Jack... just Jack.

"You were caught in something," she continued, as she tried her best to explain, "They forced their way into your mind, tried to bury you under their rot. For a while I wasn't sure if I could pull you back, but here you are."

Just wearing clothing

Jack looked down at his hands. Unmarred, unmarked. His clothing was ripped and coming apart, but at least he felt untouched. Mostly.

A simple wave over his clothing was enough to tell it to begin repairing itself, and he looked to Valery again, concern and a hint of worry still threading through his voice. "The Drengir... gone and dealt with...? as in dead? Or just.... gone." He had no reason to doubt Valery - time and again she had more than proven her friendship and provided her aid, and he trusted her in turn - but something still teased at the back of his mind.

He clenched and unclenched his hand slowly, trying to work the sensation back into his arm. "...here I am," he repeated, before looking back up to Valery with a thin smile. "So. I guess anti-Drengir operations are a no-go for me, moving forward, huh?"
