Kito kept her hand on the hilt of her blade. She gathered that the place they were wandering into wasn't going to be something pleasant. But that's how it had been since she allowed herself to be absorbed into the Republic. She often found herself wandering into dangerous fights, following her Master to pseudo-diplomacy talks, and unwillingly fighting a friend.

The scratches that raked across her cheek were finally starting to heal. Bacta and whatever else were helping, but she did hope it didn't scar. As much as the scars were cool, Kito didn't want them on her face. A hand faintly touched the healing wounds, and the slickness of the bacta cream lingered at her touch. Kito frowned and continued beside Ayra.

As they watched, her eyes lingered quietly on the shorter blonde. A part of her was concerned about the mission they had taken up. Ayra was strong, but she seemingly didn't have enough perception or something to keep herself out of trouble. It was the only reason she volunteered to go with the girl.

It would be easier to prevent her from needing rescuing than just to rescue her.

Darkness filled the lab. Kito easily adjusted due to her heritage. She wondered how Ayra was faring, but her shaky tone gave it away.

"It's okay," she reassured the girl. "As long as we stick together, we'll be fine."

Kito smiled and realized she had been volunteered to lead. It didn't matter if Ayra felt more comfortable walking behind her; then so be it.

They continued, and Kito found her mind wandering. First, she wondered if her encounter with Valaine had created this fear of the dark. Secondly, she got a devilish idea to try to take her mind off the fear she was feeling.

They continued, and the moment Ayra turned on her lightsaber, Kito suddenly vanished. She moved through the force cloak and made her way behind Ayra. She mentally prepared herself for the girl to swing the saber, but she leaned forward slightly and blew in the Echani's ear.

"Boo."

She stepped back quickly and dropped the cloak, giving Ayra a wide grin.

"See, the only dangerous thing here is you and me." Kito paused, standing back near the Echani, and sighed softly. While she did her best to help her friend, she did wonder.

"Why are you so unsettled? Something bothering you?"

The pale blue light of the Echani's lightsaber managed to only vaguely illuminate the hallways that the pair passed as they descended further into the laboratory, the flickering of light and deepening of shadows did little to relieve the tightness in the chest of the Padawan. Whatever awaited them down here, history suggested it wasn't of the pacifist variety.

Of course it would be some monster created in the laboratory of scientists that didn't know any better about what they were creating. That was fine, they could always be cut down with a lightsaber. But why did it always have to be so fething dark when they were attacked.

"I'm not worried about being attacked, it's just the waiting that always gets to me. Some creature sitting in the pitch black that can watch us as long as it wants to like those old holofilms." Ayra chewed the inside of her cheek, trying to chase the memory of those movies away. "It would be nice if these scientists considered natural lighting instead of sterile halls and steel."

She awaited the wry response she had come to expect from Kito, but it never came. Her pale eyes fell forward from the halls she kept staring down to look for her fellow Jedi, but the girl had disappeared. She had always been suspiciously stealthy, but to outright disappear irritated the Echani.

Before any worry took her, the girl picked up the pace. The feeling of darkness lurched behind her, licking at her nape as the feeling of being alone slowly crept along her mind. "Kito? It isn't very nice to run off by yourse-"

"Boo!"

The sound came along with the creeping darkness and the Echani swung with a shocking lack of grace as she twist upon her heels. They caught themselves and Ayra fell to the floor with a crash, the deadman's switch of her saber caused the pale light to retreat back into the hilt.

The shock last for but a moment as she stared back up to the K'Paur towering above her, a look of irritation and unamusement stained itself upon the girl's face as she sat on the steel floor for a few seconds.

"Really...?" The tone came out unimpressed, her eyes meeting the fiery orbs of her partner as she could do little but stare her down. "I wonder what could possibly be bothering me about being stuck in a pitch black underground lab with the most annoying girl the order could find."

Ayra didn't bother waiting for Kito to help before raising herself to her feet, taking her time with the motion to show Kito exactly how little she wanted her help. Patting herself off and readjusting her clothes, Ayra continued to pout as she looked back to Kito.

"You know we're on a mission right now, yeah?" An eyebrow raised as she craned her neck to stare the K'Paur down. "I would prefer if you left messing with me to off-duty hours, in spite of how much you seem to enjoy it."
