Description: The University of Lipsec is renowned across First Order space for two things: its programs in fashion (design, commercialization, management) and chemistry; otherwise the University isn't overly high on the galactic academic totem pole. Most chemistry majors find jobs in the local cosmetics industries in rather short order. The oldest building in the university is called Revlon Building, whish is known by locals as the Green Castle. Occupying the tip of the confluence between two rivers, it is the oldest spot in the city still extant today. Today's campus covers nearly 400 acres, and accommodating an enrollment of 35,000, of which about 24,000 are undergraduates and 11,000 are graduate students (across all types of graduate programs), up from the 25,000 it used to have when the campus first opened in the aftermath of the One Sith's incursion on Lipsec.
History: The current incarnation of the university campus was built in Maybelline after the old campus at another location on Lipsec has been destroyed circa 137 ABY by an incursion of the One Sith on Lipsec. Originally the University was built around with the Green Castle overlooking the actual tip of the confluence, with the main quad of the old campus housing several key departments today: chemistry, fashion design, fashion management. Also the main lane of the campus is called Graug Walk because the pavement was built using the estate of a Graug alumnus, of which one end is the campus' main gate and the other end is the Green Castle. The campus expanded over the following three centuries until the outbreak of the Gulag Plague caused the in-person campus to be closed due to the health hazards the Plague caused, forcing the courses to be held off-campus for over 200 years.
In 700 ABY the in-person campus reopened due to the lowered health hazards due to the epidemic being less virulent in that era, and a decade-long restoration project was undertaken. By 750 ABY the university's renewal was spurred by the fame achieved by its residents in the fashion industry within the Koradin Sector, and beyond, which allowed the university to carve a galaxy-wide niche for fashion as well as for chemistry and chemical engineering. The many administrations of the university chose to prioritize those niche and sometimes to the detriment of other areas. Today's fashion programs are highly selective, and the university asked prospective students to declare a major on their application for the past 30 years or so.
