Katarine thanked the pilot after they landed and descended down the ramp. It had been quit some time since her last trip to Kashyyyyk. Last time she had visited The Silver Rest a healer had examined her. Things looked pretty much the same as they did back then. Katarine had to admit that the Silver Jedi had a sense of style and tranquility to them. She had bounced between the Jedi factions but was having trouble fitting into one. The galaxy was so different than she remembered. She felt like a nomad who nobody understood. That is nobody until now. There was another Jedi who was even older than she was and had suffered through stasis too. This was the reason for the woman's visit today.

A Jedi padawan lead her to the garden and told her the master would be with her shortly. Katarine walked around, admiring the fountains and the beautiful flowers. There was such beauty and tranquility on this planet. It felt calming, even for a chaotic mind like Kat's.

Valery had found herself rather surprised when she was told a Jedi came to visit her, and her curiosity only grew when she heard about the reason for this visit. Until now, she felt quite alone in the Galaxy, not because of a lack of people around her, but simply because she felt out-of-place. Nobody truly understood the things she struggled with, but that seemed to no longer be the case anymore.

Wearing her typical tunic, Valery made her way over to the Gardens and took in a breath of fresh air. The flowers, the trees, and the plants created an atmosphere she truly loved. She could easily spend hours here in deep meditation or simply relax after a long day. But of course, it also made it an ideal spot to meet other Jedi.

Spotting the Padawan who received Katarine Ryiah at Silver Landing, Valery would offer them a bow of her head to show her gratitude. But in the corner of her orange eyes, she had noticed the Master near one of the fountains as well. Valery made her way over and first greeted the woman with a warm smile before she offered a respectful bow of her head.

"Greetings. I'm Master Valery Noble - it's a pleasure to meet you."

Katarine turned when she felt another presence join the garden. The woman before her looked like one of the great Jedi masters Kat had always wanted to be but could never really pull off.

Kat was dressed simply in black flight pants, a white tank top, and a leather jacket. They were all antiques and looked out of place. She hadn’t gotten the hang of modern fashion yet. Even her hairstyle was old fashioned. She felt out of place, even at a Jedi Temple but she smiled, hoping to cover up her insecurities.

“Master Noble, thank you for meeting me. My name is Katarine. I was reading about active Jedi and realized you had been… well that you were…”

She realized she had no idea how to bring up this potentially traumatic topic. If Valery was anything like Kat than everyone she had known was dead, and the loneliness and unease would be eating away at the master. Kat decided to do what she always did in these situations, and reached for humor and sarcasm to mask how much she was struggling.

“You look great.. especially at your age.”

She smiled and already regretted this comment. Kat was over eight hundred years old herself but if the files were correct Master Noble was even older. And wiser. And a better Jedi. And Kat had probably just insulted her. She felt like crawling under one of the plants and dying. She kept the false bravado smile in place however and shuffled on her leather boots.

After Valery's awakening from the long stasis, she had taken a great deal of time to process what all that time away truly meant for her. Her former friends were long gone, the Enclave she was the leader of was erased from history, and she was completely out-of-touch with the Galaxy and what it had gone through. During the initial weeks after her recovery, this had been something she continuously struggled with. But it also led to her spending several months away on a meditative retreat to re-center herself and move forward.

So as the woman stood in front of Katarine, and the topic was about to be brought up, she didn't seem too bothered by it. Whilst difficult, Valery had accepted her new situation and felt more ready to move on and even discuss it with others.

But the question didn't come up entirely..

“You look great.. especially at your age.”

Valery blinked at this and needed a few seconds to process. But she quickly began to chuckle, clearly amused by the comment. "Well, I believe stasis hasn't been a bad thing on either of us, in terms of appearance anyway. I might technically be old, but I sure don't feel that way. Curato Salva also helps a good bit." Valery said with a slight smirk.

She continued her smile but after a moment, she decided to gently bring the topic of their meeting back up again.

"From what I've heard, you were in stasis for quite some time too. If my own experience is anything to go off of, it has likely not been easy - it's quite the adjustment after all. Perhaps we can sit down and talk about it a little more? If you don't mind sharing your story, I am quite curious to hear it, and I'd be happy to share my perspective too."

"Yes I was. They woke me up on Jakku. I haven't really pieced together what happened yet. I was fighting for the rebellion against the empire and now.... I don't know what I'm doing anymore. There are so many Jedi Orders, so many Force users who don't even follow an order. Jedi are allied with Sith, Empires allied with democracies. It's .... confusing."

She sighed, knowing this really didn't explain everything but it was one of the things she was struggling with most. What was her identity in this new place? She had been a poor excuse for a Jedi before but now? The idea was laughable.

"What was it like for you?"

Valery listened intently to Katarine explaining her situation, which she could relate to a great deal. While she wasn't part of the rebellion fighting the Empire, she was in the middle of a huge war against the Sith Empire back in her days. But since her awakening, she had been rather confused by the state of the Galaxy as well.

"I know how you feel," she said after a brief moment of silence.

"Before I fell into stasis, I was the Grandmaster of a fairly small Jedi Enclave. We were engulfed in the war against the Sith Empire at the time, and one of these battles took me to Onderon. I'm not sure about the details, but that's where I ended up in a stasis pod. About 4 thousand years later, I woke up inside some research facility." Valery blinked at her own words and paused again before she continued.

"The adjustment has been difficult for me too. In some ways, nothing changed - the Galaxy is still at war. But some other things have changed drastically, some of the Jedi included. But.. I think I've finally found my place within it all."

Valery walked over to a small bench and sat down, her eyes still fixed on the woman.

"They say Jedi should not be stuck in the past, and be able to move forward. It's a difficult thing in reality because it does require you to learn from the past and detach from it. But for us.. there is quite a gap leading up to the here and now."

she sighed.

"I spent months away on a meditative retreat to find my purpose again. That's the hard reality for me."

"The adjustment has been difficult for me too. In some ways, nothing changed - the Galaxy is still at war.”

Katarine really understood these words that the master spoke. Master Noble was right, after all this time the galaxy was still at war. Based on what Valery said it had been at war for thousands of years. It was something Katarine was struggling with deeply.

“That’s what is messing my mind up so much. Eight hundred years latter… and thousands for you…. And we are still at war. When I fought for the Rebellion I was so certain I was doing the right thing. I knew the galaxy deserved peace and freedom … but that war concluded without me and another was right in its heels. How can I continue to fight when none of it matters? No matter what I do the wars will come. “

She sat down on a bench opposite of Master Noble and hung her head in her hands. The only good she saw now was the lives of people she could help. But did that mean she should stop being a warrior and instead turn her life to medicine or social service? Did that matter in the end either?

Valery watched Katarine sit down, and offered a gentle and comforting smile. She understood the line of thinking and the conclusion that Katarine came to. She had felt similarly for a bit, but there was more to it all.

"While there is still war now, there were long times of peace as well. Both after the war that I was involved in, and the rebellion you were once part of. But even if our fighting doesn't always lead to peace, it's still necessary that we continue defending others the way we do."

Valery paused and thought about how she wanted to explain it for a moment.

"Oppression and evil rely on fear to control the people. It results in inaction, which is what they need to retain their power over them. It's only when people, Jedi included, stand together to push back against it, that there is hope for it to change. It can take a lot of time and sacrifice, but we can't ever sit by and allow people to lose their hope completely."

"That is why I fight."
Valery said before she took a small breath.

"It all just seems so pointless. I believe in helping people and I understand there will always be darkness, but do we always have to fight it? Isn't there some way to coexist and end this cycle of endless violence and suffering?"

She realized she sounded horribly whiny and decided to stop. She pushed her long brown hair behind her ear and glanced around the garden.

"Do you like it here at The Silver Jedi Order? Do they seem to mirror the ideas you held in your past?"

Valery sighed softly as she thought about the question, "Well, as much as I would want for peaceful coexisting to be possible, I believe that may not be entirely possible. Especially when it comes to Sith, as their fundamental code suggests a need for conflict - they don't believe in peace. Not long-term, anyway. Without this conflict, they believe they will inevitably stagnate." she said. "But perhaps there is hope for peace with some tainted by the Dark Side."

Valery was quite hesitant about that idea as well, as her more traditional views were not as optimistic about Dark Siders wanting genuine, long-lasting peace. But she tried to remain open-minded as well. For now, she did decide to follow Katarine's shift of subject and smiled.

"Thus far, I've enjoyed my stay here but I haven't been here too long. From what I heard, the Silver Jedi are more traditional in their views, and that does fit me. But only time will tell how well I fit in. They seem quite nice though." she said with a soft chuckle.

"Do you have an idea as to where you want to settle in? Or try to settle in?"

"Do you have an idea as to where you want to settle in? Or try to settle in?"

Katarine wasn't sure. So much of the galaxy was different than how she remembered. "I honestly don't know. Some days I consider re-joining the Jedi but others I think I should just open up a small boutique and sell candles or something stupid."

She half laughed but was half serious. She honestly had no idea where she fit these days.

Valery chuckled in response and nodded, as she understood the difficulty in the decision that lay ahead of Katarine. "While opening a boutique sounds lovely, it's quite different from what you've always been used to. Right now, it may not be clear what the right path is, but I'm sure you'll find it."

"I was able to, with some time, and you can do the same." she smiled, trying to encourage the woman a little.

"Perhaps take some time to travel and explore. Learn more about the Galaxy and you'll naturally find a place you feel you belong. It may lead you back to the Jedi, but you may find a different purpose as well."

“I appreciate you taking the time to meet me. Its always a pleasure to meet more Jedi.”

Kat felt peaceful in the gardens of the Silver Rest, but she was not sure if they were her place. For so long her heart had been guiding her, and that made her a poor Jedi. But now her love was dead and she was spiraling as she had before. This galaxy was strange and new and she fit nowhere. At least for now.

“I will do as you suggested and meditate. I hear they have some great meditation chambers here. May as well while I am here. When in Rome..”
