Description -
The Type 78 VLG is a standardized type of light groundcar originally developed for the Hafnip Federation Defensive Army, but later offered for civilian and export sale. VLG stands for Vehicle, Light, Ground, and the Type 78 is the 78th vehicle to be accepted for service in this role by the HFDA.
Small, rugged and simple, the Type 78 was first rolled out by the Frontier Motor Corporation. In its standard practice, the Army bought all rights to the design upon adoption, guaranteeing a substantial production contract to FMC for their trouble, but also licensing the Type 78 to various other companies for parts, service and additional production runs.
As a result, so many companies now produce the Type 78 that to name only one would not do the scale of the vehicle's manufacture any justice. To date, it is the single most successful ground vehicle in Miln history, with tens of millions built over decades of production, well over half for export markets.

The Type 79 is a two-seat, open-topped wheeled vehicle with a healthy 900 kilogram cargo capacity, including an enclosed bay under the hood and an external rack at the rear, upon which can be mounted a Type 33 Scout Platform or a Type J0 Field Utility Droid.
The vehicle also has a tow hitch, and can be used to pull very heavy loads; a major export market for the Type 78 is starports, where they are used to move spacecraft around landing fields.

The Type 78 is an electric vehicle, powered by a sealed radiothermal generator with an independent motor serving each wheel. The little vehicle is light-weight, and has excellent off-road performance.
One novel feature incorporated into the Type 78's design are four chemical maneuvering jets, normally concealed but mounted on swivels which come out of the sides of the vehicle. These tiny rockets are meant to allow the Type 78 to maneuver in a zero-gravity environment, such as might be found in parts of a Miln space habitat. Under gravity, they can be used to "jump" the vehicle over moderate obstacles, or even hover temporarily, though this will quickly burn through the engines' meager fuel supply.
The Type 78 is also amphibious, able to travel on water with the use of a small hydro-jet.

Overall, the Type 78 is a tough, compact vehicle. Though ergonomically better suited to its Miln builders, it has proven popular elsewhere in the Galaxy, especially among smaller sentients.
