Misc. Equipment -
Strengths -
  • Compact design allows for easy concealment.
  • Decent top speed and wide tracks allow for good mobility, even over rough terrain.
  • Just as fast going backward as forward, allowing for quick retreats.
  • Comprehensive sensor package and sophisticated targeting computer ensure accurate fire, even at long range.
  • Electromagnetic mass-driver main gun offers excellent armor penetration capability and a good rate of fire.
  • Ferroceramic hull provides excellent armor protection, including exceptionally high thermal resistance; it can take direct hits from light laser cannons, as well as most trooper-portable anti-tank weapons.
  • Built-in amenities allow crews to stay buttoned up in their vehicle for long periods, if necessary.
  • Efficient lithium-air battery power supply and auxiliary radiothermal generator provide good driving range.
Weaknesses -
  • Casemate-style design allows for only a few degrees of gun traverse, elevation and depression.
  • Tracked design is slower and less versatile than walker or repulsorlift propulsion, and can be disabled by infantry anti-armor weapons
  • Design does not incorporate any ranged anti-personnel weapons, necessitating reliance on infantry support and other vehicles.
  • Unsuited for close-range combat against enemy vehicles.
  • Backup radiothermal generator, if severely damaged, can expose the crew to dangerous levels of radiation.
  • Requires the use of a heavy transport craft to deploy from orbit.
Description -
The Type 71 MAG, or Mobile Armored Gun, is a Miln-designed tank destroyer primarily in use with the Hafnip Federation Defensive Army. Built to oppose enemy tanks and combat walkers, their construction and role are in keeping with Miln tactics, in that they are primarily meant to engage the enemy at long range from concealed positions, acting as mobile anti-vehicle emplacements. They are primarily deployed as part of defensive operations.

Because of this, the Type 71 does not incorporate a rotating turret for its main gun, nor any anti-personnel weapons, aside from the ability to electrify its outer hull. The tank is well protected, however; its hull is composed of a ferroceramic material which can turn light laser cannon bolts, defeats most infantry-portable anti-tank weapons, and has a high resistance to heat. It is also surprisingly light, reducing the overall weight of the tank.

Mobility is provided by wide, continuous metallic tracks, with front and rear drive wheels and eight interleaved road wheels per track, each with an independent, adjustable gas suspension system. On level ground, the Type 71 can maintain 60 kilometers per hour top speed, with an operational range of 400 kilometers. Propulsion is electric, with power provided by five banks of lithium-air batteries driving four motors, one per drive wheel. Auxiliary power is provided by a well shielded radiothermal generator, which can run internal systems and, if necessary, be used to recharge the main batteries, though this process can take several days. Batteries are more often recharged by external generators, a process which generally only takes a few minutes.

The Type 71's main gun is a 105mm electromagnetic mass-driver, linked to sophisticated targeting computer. Incorporating data from weather readings, various optical filters and other sensor data, it is accurate at kilometers distance, allowing the Type 71 to engage targets without immediately giving away its position. Loading is semi-automatic, with three separate selectable magazines for different ammunition types, including two 25-round magazines and one 10-round.
The Type 71 can also throw up smoke, chaff and beam diffusion gas for additional protection, usually when changing position.

As a "sniper" tank, the Type 71 provides various amenities for its crew, allowing them to stay on station and buttoned up for long periods. These include fold-down sleeping bunks, a compact refresher, a tiny kitchen for preparing meals and a moisture vaporator for drinkable water. Seating is also provided for two non-crew passengers, typically a couple of regular soldiers, as well as up to a ton of cargo. Crew space inside the Type 71 would be considered unacceptably cramped by the standards of most races, but fairly roomy by those of the diminutive Miln.
In the event of the tank being disabled, emergency escape hatches through both the top and bottom of the vehicle are provided.

Type 71s are typically deployed on Miln colony worlds, as well as in orbital habitats in time of war. As some of the largest and heaviest combat ground vehicles employed by the Miln, these tanks form the backbone of most Miln surface defenses, a task for which they are well suited.

I've edited down the squadron count to 4, but I wonder if you'll consider letting me keep the assigned weight; the dimensions and weight are based on the Jagdpanther tank destroyer; it's only marginally smaller, and weighs only 45.5 tons.
The Type 71's hull is made of a titanium-ceramic composite, rather than the heavy rolled steel of the Jagdpanther. This is where I envision most of the difference in weight, as titanium-ceramic would be very strong, but doesn't weigh very much.
If you insist, I think 40-45 tons would be a more realistic weight than 60.
