DESCRIPTION

A rare and risky attachment for a Lightsaber, the Tide is designed to sneakily disrupt the very principles by which most sabers operate.

The Helix Privateers have long made a study of mastering magnetic fields and containment, utilized in such weapons as the Spinneret, Firewisp, and Harmony. With this has come a good understanding of exactly how to strengthen or disrupt them in a precise way.

As such, the Tide is usually installed into the hilts of Dzara lightsabers, where it is utilized in the event of saber "locks".

Should the blade of an equipped saber meet the blade of an unequipped one for a prolonged period, the user may activate the device. This sends a pulse of magnetic distortion through the emitter and up the blade of the user's weapon, which attempts to destabilize the containment field of the enemy's saber. The overall precision of this reaction is generally safe enough (at least for its user), but in extremely rare cases might disrupt the user's lightsaber as well. Nonetheless, an occurrence rate of approximately .002% in initial testing prompting Helix's scientists to regard this possibility as largely negligible.

At best, this nasty little device can result in the dispersal and temporary deactivation of the opposing weapon. At worst, it can deactivate the blade's magnetic containment while the plasma emission remains active, freeing the contained reaction. This latter can have a range of dire consequences, ranging from "merely" severe thermal burns to the violent detonation of the opposing saber. In either case, the weapon (or the user) are often in no condition to continue the fight.

Of course, lightsaber blades are seldom in contact for long, rendering this trick useful only in the event of the spectacular, lingering clashes that populate innumerable holodramas.
