“Much to learn you still have.”
― Yoda to Count Dooku, after absorbing his Force Lightning

Having taught Lilla the basics of saber combat – and most of the Forms, Mei had considered her next level of development should be any useful techniques to defend herself.

She’d learned how to construct a Force Barrier, which was a useful generic ability. Next he decided to focus on a likely challenge she’d face against any dark sider – namely Force Lightning.

For a change, he was conducting the mission outdoors. They were on a routine mission and he’d invited her along to allow her to see how Jedi typically interacted with the wider galaxy.

Having concluded their task, Mei took their shuttle to a remote area and set the ship down. Bringing with him some standard and modified remotes, he exited the craft and stood in the middle of a clearing bordered by trees on three sides and a small hill to their left.

“Unlike most lessons, this is one I will have to use props for primarily. That is quite simply because I am not a dark-sider.”

“But, as ever, we begin with you telling me what you known of Tutaminis.”

Lilla looked at the remotes laying at her Master’s feet and knew what he planned to do with them.

“Tutaminis is a wide-ranging title used to classify Force abilities related to energy absorption. It comes from the Control family of abilities.”

“In very simple terms, the aim is to draw potentially harmful heat or electrical energy into your body and diffuse it or channel it away completely.”

“An advanced practitioner can used the absorbed energy to heal wounds or even manifest other Force powers. It is akin to the dark sided power Force Drain, except this way nobody should get hurt.”

Mei nodded at her knowledge. It was something taught routinely at most Academies and Lilla’s understanding was basic, because the ability was. It was, in truth, no more complicated than his young Padawan described.

“It’s uses range from holding a saber blade to stopping a blaster bolt. The additional element, as you describe, is what you do with that energy – dissipate it, or channel it for your own use. Initially you learn the former. The latter comes with years of practise."

“In theory, this is an ability that could self-sustain. If you repeatedly block blaster fire and use that energy to block more fire, it should be something you can keep up indefinitely. That’s the theory, but in practice the user becomes fatigued.”

“Now, to some practical appliance of all of that theory.”
